  • WHAT!? A SD50-2, I never knew that there was such a thing!

Nice catch on the SD38! I haven't seen any CSX SD38's. It seems like down there in Tennessee you see a lot of rare things all of the time.

Dude, I have now seen two or three 'dedicated' UP engines! And one BNSF H3 SD40-2. The highest UP SD70ACe I have ever seen was 8432 when it was with 8431 at the Altoona, PA shops.

    Anyways, catch ya later!

Already know about it but thanks for the help.
Nothing new here. Went railfanning yesterday and I caught Myself a BNSF GEVO. Got a pic of it but I don't remember the number. Also saw a DPUed coal train coming into superior.

    Nothing new other wise.

  • Rick- SD50-2's are ex CR SD50 with derated horsepower to 3000 from 5000 so really they're CR SD50's with a -2 and 3000hp. I have seen 2 dedicated UP also (I think). The highest SD70ACe was UP 8414 in Rochelle,IL.

Corborn- CSX 2461 a ex CR SD38 6492 is usally with a slug but not today. It was in the lead and was pulling 38 empty rock cars also has a nice CR horn so it is lead capable.

I don't think the SD50's had 5000 Horsepower. The SD60 has 3800 horsepower and there are only a couple things different between the SD50 and 60. So I believe the SD50 has 3800 horsepower. But yes The -2 gives the upgraded electrical components. The Turbo charger was down grated so that it didn't put out the 3800 but the 3000. The same thing with WC's SD45s. They had down graded the turbo charger so that it put out 3000 HP instead of the full 3600. Mostly to save fuel.
But Like I said I don't think they put 5000 HP out.
If so I would like to know where you got this info.

  • I believe the original SD50 featured 3,500 horsepower but later variants had 3,600.
  • Gluefinger: Doesnt Kenosha have a streetcar system?
  • sorry 3,500HP I over looked it and saw 5,000 near it. The site is a private site where only about 10 people know so I cannot tell you the site owner works for CSX and can get fired if it gets out to the country he only tells trusted freinds that he knows for a long time.

  • Oskar - Oh my goodness! LOL So are you saying that they are or aren't SD50-2s? If they have 3,500 horespower then that would happen to be the same amount of horsepower that a SD50 has.

And by the way, I'm going to Berea again tomorrow! Oskar, I think I forgot to tell you that I saw my first TFM (1657 - SD70MAC) in Conneaut, OH on May 28, 2006. It was behind a BNSF (Warbonnet) C44-9W and a NS SD60. On CSX trackage!

    I'll talk to ya later!
