  • Weeeeell, first off, I pasted my GCOR test with room to spare, and room for improvement (but better than Kale and James, i just had to add that cuz they beat me at everything) and then went and ran trains on a layout with 65 WC locomotives and over 300 freight cars, may be more.

Happy birthday for yesterday. If you don't mind me asking, what did you get?

Not much going on here, I'm having an argument with Redneck, both here and on trainboys forum.

My forum is not in service. it will be replaced soon.

  • I went railfanning today and saw CSX 16 ( its a low numbered one I figured I will give it attention) CSX 6489 which was eyeballess in the LHF postion (top 2 lights missing), CSX 3, and a HLCX 6309 ex SOO 743. I didn't stay long it was supposed to be raining off and on.

If you have not heard CNW 8575 has been patched to UP 9037 making 8646 and 8701 the only 2 left in CNW. DRG&W 5371 is the only Rio Grande left. So I searched up some records on the last 3 (before 5/11).

    Augusta 12/23/2004

    155
    NS 6656
    CNW 8575
    SP 141

    Galesburg 7/7/2005
UP Auto train on BNSF tracks 9 hrs late
    UP 4843
    CNW 8701
    UP 9276

those are the CNW's I have recorded that are not patched that I know I have seen. The rest are patched.

  • I had a fun day with a lot of unexpected railfanning. I got up, protested against going to church (We were doing a jazz service, ie suck) and then decided to finish off a roll of print film in my camera (So yes, pictures this week) and I went down to the 85th street bridge, saw 2 trains, and Dr. Keay, who has a great MRR. Then after, we went for a hike, and dinner at the Lake Louise station. before and after dinner, I set up my tripod and camera (With slide film in) on the new grade there, which is on an embankment and a 0.8% (I think) grade. Or maybe it's 1.8%. Anyways, after dinner, I'm standing there wondering how the heck the signal can be red over green over red. seeing as usually no trains do that sort of thing. So I look west along the new grade, and i see headlights coming DOWN the upgrade grade! I leap down the embankment with my tripod to get ready, 15 feet in about 5 steps, quick-release the camera from the tripod because two of the legs were shortened for use on the slope, and that's not going ot be of much help. Lo and behold, down the grade comes 3084, 5969 and the Royal Canadian Pacific, dynamics howling and brakes sqealing! It stops at the signal, and I da***o the head end as fsat as possible, ditching my half-collapsed tripod in a tree along the platform. I got a few pics of the headend, hope they work out even though I'm sure the backlighting killed a few of them, and then I heard some CP guys discussing the Sperry car in the siding, and how it shouldn't be there, as that's where they're supposed to put the train! So they eventually decide to put it in Eldon, where I caught up with it and got a few more shots. (Eldon is half way between Morant's Curve and Mile 100, it's at mile 106, near Lake Louise)
That day I also saw a SOO SD60M....

  • Hey all -

I'm back from the Horseshoe Curve and man was it great! You gotta love the helper units and don't forget about that metallic squeeling while rounding the bend. It all adds up to an enjoyable, railfan location. Let's start off with a brief trip report.

First, I go stop to eat at a buffet named Ponderosa (some of you may not know about it). They started a new food-ordering system, so I order my favorite, a chesseburger with fries. It gets there about 45 minutes later and is completely burn't to a crisp. It stunk and was nasty. So we got a refund of the burger for approxiametly (spelling*) $7.41. I am not ordering food there again, needless to say!

Then we get our hotel room and get to the Horseshoe Curve finally. The very first train there was 05T - an Amtrak train w/ five passenger cars from New York to Pittsburgh. (I believe) It had AMTK 41 (P42DC) for power.
http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=373858 - sorry about the angle, it came right when we parked our car.

Then came a set of four helper units - NS 3340, 3342, 3347 and 3341. While passing a meet occured with NS 2638 and 8910. It was a freight - no photos.

Then came NS 9599 (C40-9W), 8652 (C39-8) and 9949 (C40-9W - Primer) with an intermodal. http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=373870 - I think this is the appropriate photo for this train. There are more these are just the best.
At the end came two SD40-2s as helpers. Gotta love this shot: http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=373874 - NS 3372 and 3364.

Next, came a nicer line-up: http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=373879 - Well, not really. A fresh NS 9967 and an older NS 9311.

After that came this: http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=373886 - a fairly rare NS B40-8 now in standard NS paint # 4817 and NS 9566 (C40-9W) w/ an intermodal train. I liked that shot too.

As of right now, I had to switch back to my Kodak C300 (3.2 mp) becuz, alas now my frickin' &*&%&%&%%^$#%$#$@%^%%& monitor (screen) on my 8.1 mp camera all of the sudden stopped working and would not turn on. I'll have to show more photos later on becuz I now have to rewire my Kodak software back up and all of that crap. And all of my Horseshoe Curve, Gallitzin Tunnel, Lilly, Cresson and Altoona photos won't be coming up until, well, through out the week. Sorry bout this situation.

But in my case, the new Canon Traveler had to be taken back and now I have the camera that I'm keeping! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!! A Kodak Z730 with 5 mp that can go down to 1 mp. It has 4x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom. So, I'm finally situated and be on the lookout for my PA photos thru-out the week.

By the way, Matt, I've found the problem, you're back on my forums.

  • I have not been under here for quite a while.
First Kale, did you mean to say I am, instead of, I am not a student Fireman. I am indeed. I am certified.......
    But thanks

Anyway nothing new here. I have been trying to post some new drawing but my stupid scanner won't work since we don't have the right image shop.....sucks

Otherwise life is a little boring but with only 16 more days of school to go it's going to get better.

  • Richard - Nope, not back on yet. And I'm sure it's an IP ban. I like the pictures, mostly. The Amtrak one, unfortunately...well, you can guess what I mean.
So yesterday while dropping off film I found out two things. One - Europeans are crazy, I saw a store where there were only white, black, and lime green clothes. two - I can get a CD with my slides, I thought that only went for print film! This is the win!
Edit: Got some pics back today, on CD, nonetheless! Made me hjappy, even though it was $6 more.
I was taking some shots to stitch together, as I was saying, and one of the night pan shots turned out with a suprising amount of colour!
    http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b274/trainboysd40/F1000020.jpg
And then I took this shot of some trees...I know it sounds silly, but give 'er a look. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b274/trainboysd40/F1000022.jpg
Then we went to the driving range, with a camera just in case. And then what I had prepared for happened! I thre down my 5 iron, grabbed my camera and dashed trackside, only to take a blurred shot and a couple of glint shots.

Then last Sunday I decided the weather was great, and stepped out the door for half an hour of railfanning. 2 trains, 1 westbound and one eastbound.
Westbound: Note the grain growing on the last car http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b274/trainboysd40/WBgrain85thstbridge.jpg
    Eastbound: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b274/trainboysd40/EBgrain85thstbridge.jpg
Suggestions, anyone? Most of these are easy to recreate for me.

  • Wow... Why has this place slowed down so much. 2 and a half days without a single post.
Anyway for those who are on I am going to be posting the pictures that I drew last summer tonight.

Anyway nothing new is going on except the NorthShore Seneic railroad's season is going to start soon and I can't wait!!!!
