  • Hello. I just joined this website today. My name is Alex. I'm from Wilson, New York, a rural town near Niagara Falls that has not seen a train since 1978. I am a graduate of RailCamp and a diehard railfan, but my family does not align with that, so I get out very seldomly, despite being 18.

    Very neat stuff![:D]
  • Hey guys,

As one teen to another, I come infront of you tonight representing a dying railroad forum. A friend of mine and a fellow teen trains.com member has a little railroad forum of his own, but we are in dire need of topics. The forum is about 95% teens. Please, come on over, check it out, sign up and let's talk about trains!

I moderate a WSOR forum over there, and there are also forums deticated to just about every class one, the EJE, WSOR, Ontrairio Northland, CNW, Conrail, ATSF, MKT, SP, and many, many more. I know, I know Alec, there isn't a WC forum, but maybe you can bribe the Administrator to make one and put you as moderator..... [;)]

  • I am Scott, I am 16, and I am a teen railfan. My favorite railroads are the Pennsylvania, CSX and NS.

I'm also a administrator on another forum that is exclusively for teens. I have a link to it in my signature; NTRES, the National Teenaged Rail Enthusiast Society.

We seem to be replying back and fourth!

Anyway, you said you saw a train going 55 mph with 100 coal cars- very neat.
i live near Elmhurst, Illinois (suburb of Chicago) and at night the short hot-shot stack trains do about 65 on triple-track UP. They put on quite a show![:P] I am sometimes left in awe!

  • Cool, hey, I know that SD50s were a huge failure, do you know why[?]
  • sd50's engine was plagued by failures and low reliability early in its life.

"There is nothing in life that compares with running a locomotive at 80-plus mph with the windows open, the traction motors screaming, the air horns fighting the rush of incoming air to make any sound at all, automobiles on adjacent highways trying and failing to catch up with you, and the unmistakable presence of raw power. You ride with fear in the pit of your stomach knowing you do not really have control of this beast." - D.C. Battle [Trains 10/2002 issue, p74.]
  • I have tons of AC6000's but now only see a little of them because CSX derated most of them then,UP I have seen alot when I am near UP tracks
