not for me I go every saturday but I hear trains from my school its less than a mile away but don't get to see the trains due to the trees

Someone posted this on another fourum- the SD50mac forum, and wanted to see what you all think...

How is the SD45 EMD's "weakest innovation, and horrible locomotive" There are still SD45s on the road today, on railroads including the Wisconsin Central, MONTANA RAIL LINk and various lease companys. The SD45s on the Montana Rail LInk pu***rains up a 2.2 percent grade through a tunnel, four times a day. THAT is abuse. Many of the MRL's helpers came from the Burlington Northern, Southern Pacific and even the Great Northern. Now, a lcomotive that can stand up to thirty years of such abuse deserves more than such a remark. I mean, how many GE's of that era do you see????????

Sorry about the long lecture, but I just think that SD45s are not EMD's mistake, but more like a genius idea.

What do you all think???

Im 15, until Sept. 27th, I am a major railroad fan, I live on UP Sedalia Sub in Missouri, my favorite fallen-flag railroad is the Southern Pacific, and I model UP/SP circa 1994.

LOL Ive got a pretty good railroad story.

I was visiting my aunt in IL and in Effingham there is nothing to do but watch trains, and CSX frmr CR and CN frmr IC both meet there.. A UP SD70M was doing interchange there, and I went biking up n the engineer invited me up inthe cab while the conductor and trainee were inspecting all the brake hoses. Well it was a hot day and the local yard PTI driver was to come pick up the conductor n trainee when they were done with their inspection. Well were sittling about 100yrds from the crossing when the driver shows up, stops for a minute..then starts driving away, so the engineer is blowing his horn, in the most irregular pattern, and trying to radio the guy, but he drives right off, then he shows up again and figures out "HEY! there is a train sitting here, and I'm suppose to pick someone up!" so he drives down and the engineer tells him to wait for the guys at the crossing so sum-odd cars back..well here he comes back, and has to ask again where to meet them..he finally shows back up with the crew members, who are ticked off, it was pretty funny, BUT what Im trying to say here is that no matter what your job, where you work, you will always deal with someone that just can't halp but be a problem. OH WELL! it was fun!

Being in My first year of high school this year, my route to school has changed, and the nice part is that I now pass over the Railroad tracks every morning[;)] It's right near where they are doing some MoW work too, building a new spur for a new industry in town. So every morning I get to check that out and see if they've made much progress or not.

What railroad do you get to see? I sometimes see ex-SOO line equipment, otherwise just regular CP rail stuff. It sure is nice to see trains though![:D]

I see SOO all the time. And by the way, to point out, if it is still in SOO Line colors, with no patch, it isnt ex SOO, its just soo. But if you saw a SD40-2 repaint, than it would be ex soo. I agree, the SD45 is a great loco. Although the WC took more care of there then MRL , but thats not the point. BTW, there arent really any SD45's in lease service, just SD40-2M's on a SD45 frame. I try to railfan as much as i can on the weekends too, it really sucks when you are in school on a beautiful day.

Oh yeah, like this weekend for instance. I was planning on going railfanning this last Saturday if the weather had been nice, but instead it decided to rain and be cloudy. Of course, it was beautiful on Friday and it's supposed to be nice Monday.

And of couse, the other Murphy's Law of Railfanning is that if you can't go railfanning on a Saturday it's a beautiful day, and if you've been planning it for weeks it rains.......

My name is Ben and im from Santa Cruz CA. I railfan alot and so far have shot about 600 photos of train arpound the US. Espee is the greatest rr ever but UP stinks.

Okay, I've seen a lot of more western loacations on here, so

I'm Mark Sylvester (16) from Reading Massachusetts (about 12 miles north of Boston.)
I"m gonna have to say that I'm a Boston and Maine fan, especially that red pain scheme, almost nothing better than that. I live near a commuter line (no freight ), although I can still se F40s with 5-7 car trains. (Amtrak never should have gotten rid of them., they sound great and can really sprint for commuter runs.)

Perosnally, I like the look of the GP30s, theres just something about the way the cab and roof come together (a nice combination of elegant but spartain design.) They look like bulldogs, lots of power packed into a smal frame.

This was the only easy photo I could come up with of one demonstrating my point.

That is good. My dad said he would treat me to some railfanning this weekend- rain or shine, which I am looking forward to a lot.
