  • I agree with Noah 100%, I have seen little to no RR related items posted here in a while. Anyway, the WC 7638 was on a UP train this afternoon, leaving Chicago.

  • A LOT!!!!!!!! really I am not sure- but I do have another interestingfigure for you.

In Montana the BNSF line between East and West Glacier- about 20 miles of track- the BNSF spends $30,000 a month on grease for the rails in just that section!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

we're doin fine!!! Relax, lets talk trains!!![:D]
  • I've always wondered how much track cost per mile myself. It's an aweful durn lot, I know that. Just think about it- each tie probably costs at least $10 treated, maybe even more, and I know the price of steel right now isn't cheap, making the rail cost and aweful lot a square foot. Plus ballast and subroadbed, neither of which can be very cheap either.

  • Crazily expensive. How long does rail last?
  • well, you can argue that one from several persectives. On most east west mainlines, anything that sees use more than 7 times a week, you will probably see rail only about 30 years old at the most(I'm guess, based upon observations). But then rail will last an aweful long time, as the WSOR still has rail installed intown that was made in 1913!!!! even with all the traffic the CNW used to run on the rail, its still there.

  • Alot, that's all I know, but I think they have to pay for the property etc. So probably over a million---no joke! LOL
