Tracking the William Henry Vanderbilt South Pennsylvania Railroad right of way along the Historic Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Well Thats so hard and all..........
The Milwaukee Road
Box Cabs and Little Joes rule!!!!!!!
You can see how much I dislike this railroad...
All i have to say is Canadian Pacific Railway when it comes to my favourite Railway/Railroad. The World's Greatest Travel System slogan of days gone by says it all. When i was younger in the 80's there was nothin better than to see a couple or triple of GP9's and GP38's pulling grain boxes/hoppers and unit coal trains near my Grandpa/Uncle's (Hay's Hereford's) farm near Souris/Pipestone Manitoba. The low chant of normally aspirated EMD/GMD 645's and 567c's was a familiar sound, and the distant sound of the whistle/horn always got my attention. The greatest thrill being waved to by the rear-end conductor and brakeman in the Yellow Caboose, being a thing that i truly do miss. But GP9's and GP38-2's are still common here in Manitoba, both on branches and yards and transfer service. CPR being one of the railways where survivors are to be found, whence in the U.S they are rare. In the 1950's they we're the last Class 1 railway to run American Standard 4-4-0's on the Minto subdivision in New Brunswuck. These days, the GP9's SD40's/2's and GP38's being rarer in the U.S are still common here. And with the 2816 steam engine program, and the Royal Canadian Pacific, how can you go wrong? My 2nd favourite railway is the CEMR which uses 4 GP9rm's (567c powered) on their 2 subdivisions and industrial trackage here in Manitoba. And the Prairie Dog Central Railway not to mention a few.
