Trackside with Erik and Mike, Volume 36 voting

  • I went with Erik this time, because it was a clearer photo. Otherwise I wasn't that fired up about either.
  • I see quite a number of pictures daily, and I'm sorry but Eric's just doesn't stand out. Mike's, on the other hand, is not run-of-the-mill. It's not a "perfect" shot (whatever that is), but it is a bit different, with the lights coming out of darkness.

  • Well a white faced BN unit always something different to see. The CSX is okay but the lights on the rails is a trip.
  • Yikes! For the last few contests, you guys keep making it tougher and tougher to pick a winning shot. The two pictures are both so good that it is very difficult to decide which one should get my vote. After studying both shots, I decided that I liked Erik's shot over Mike's simply because I liked Erik's in your face composition of the lead engine more. Yes, Mike gave a great shot of the locomotives and consist of the BNSF train that out does Erik's shot but there is something about staring at the CSX's nose that tugged at my love of railroading even more. Great work to both of you! I look forward to the fantastic shots you guys will submit for the next contest.
  • The great battle of the wedgies! This was a tough one this week, I actually had to study both of them to try to figure out which one I liked better. And finally after some back and forth between the two I finally decided on Mike's for two reasons:
1.) In the very bottom center of Erik's picture it looks like there are some weeds that are really close and out of focus, and I found that a little distracting.
2.) It looks like the CSX loco in Erik's is a little crooked. I'm not sure if it is just a perspective issue, or if my monitor is not quite level [;)].

Either way superb job by all involved. And I'm glad to see that Mike is exposing future generations to the wonderful world of trains!

Mmmmm... bacon.... Oh yeah! Trains forum...
I liked Mike's shot. Actually, I liked Erik's too! Both photos have BN whiteface engines, and Erik's has a "dark future" CSX, but what spoiled it for me was that awful SD70ACe nose! The SD60Ms looked so awesome, what happened EMD???

  • BN green, yuk, photo too dark & depressing (reminds me too much of the dark, dank, wet, depressing pacific northwest). CSX yellow good, brite happy photo, & the new EMD's are beautiful (sorry "lateagain"), so tough looking, as a locomotive should be. Also I think there is more dead, brown grass in the 2nd photo so have to go with brown grass over green grass (I don't do lawns). Larry in Las Vegas.
  • Definitely two wedgies...I had to go with Mike's for many of the same reasons already stated: 1)More train shown; 2)Lights glistening of the rails 3)Angle was a little better. just my opinion; great work guys.
  • Well, I've have to say 'no contest'. Erik's photo is (in my opinion) easily the winner. And I don't care about what the loco's are or the RR's. Erik's is just cleaner, more dynamic, sharper, more interesting, more....well, everything.
  • Mike got me this week. Good shots, albeit two wedgies, but good none-the-less. I enjoyed the "breathing" room around the train in Mike's shot. The use of lower light was a nice touch too. Although, that nose of the 70ACe does command attention!

Maybe for contemporary locomotives, but do you remember the BQ23-7's? YIKES!

  • The BNSF shot got my vote, I have been by the general area of the shot many times.
Also loved the John Deere shots, worked for two Deere dealerships in the late 50's and early 60's. I would really like to go on some factory tours.
    Long Live BNSF.
  • Mmmm, this is a tough one! I had to go with Erik's. You cannot beat the CSX.

I think I may be one of the only one's around that like the BQ23-7's. In fact, I have ten(Yes, 10) Bachmann HO Scale BQ23-7's. I think they could also go for rarest Bachmann ever produced. But this isn't the MR forum, so I'll go back to my hole now.
