What kind of locomotive power do you like?

  • Diesel/Electric. I especially like air conditioned units. If you have ever run an engine with no A/C you know what I am talking about. Those hot Texas days can be really tough without it. On a very hot day the temperature can get well over 100 in the cab. Another reason is with A/C you have the window closed thus cutting down on all the outside noise i.e. whistle.
  • I Love Diesel Locomotives , Nothings more eye catching and Jaw dropping than a Steam Locomotive .
  • I'm a diesel guy because that's what I'm growing up with, all though, I have come to like steam quite a bit.

  • STEAM FOREVER AND EVER
  • Steam, all the way! Beautiful locomotives to watch!
  • Steam because I was grown in awe of these things in early 50's in Finland. Still my favorite is N&W J series, the last one, 611, having the same birh month as me 5/1950 and the same diameter of driving wheels 70"" as my height. AND boy we are fast. Hopefully 611 still runs some day.

  • Steam all the way! (Although the others ain't bad either.)
  • I quess what one likes depends on what grown up with. I spent my early childhood with a nearby railway station in fifties when it was all steam here in Finland and still in my dreams recall the awe listening and watching those things which made a real sense to even a very young boy. Diesel and electric power is OK too. Now it's got all electric here where I live. But they are still trains!
  • Your choices are way, way too broad. I love steam, but some diesels are almost as exciting - say a Dash 9 pair straining hard with 130+ cars upgrade! And some electrics are fascinating. A GG-! as others have mentioned, or a Little Joe on Snohalmie Pass, for instance. And then there's the interurban cars - I can just remember the Yonge St. Radial car from my boyhood in Toronto. They had a weird tweet-tweet air horn, not at all like the modern ones.
  • Diesels, in my opion, are better than steam engines. Although, steamers are pretty cool. I think that diesels have more color and don't have so much identity crisis if you see them from a distance. Steamers also lack color. And diesels are not so much hard work. Electric diesels are pretty obsolete, so...I voted for diesels.

    [bow] to diesels.
