The ES44DC is the King of the Road!!
  • Where's the ALCO love? Is this a choice of favorites in last 10 years? Where's the GP30? All these choices seem the same. I voted for GP38 just to see the results.

Okay, you didn't specify "no legacies," and other members have listed motive power from the past.

My favorite American locomotive is Raymond Loewy's GG-1, which I'm sure practically all of you are familiar with, both from our hobby and from the many movies (like Strangers on a Train and The [1961] Manchurian Candidate.

I first rode behind one when I was still in high school, in 1969, and my father and I took the train from southwestern Virginia to New York. We changed at Union Station in D.C. So beautiful, and I even love the horn. Moop Moop!

A great way to see a display of one is at the RR museum in Baltimore. And Alfred Hitchcock's 1950 film, the aforementioned Strangers on a Train, has some good toss-off shot and some very realistic-looking interiors. Great movie, too TRIVIA NOTE: The film was based on Patricia Highsmith's first novel of the same name.

    Moop Moop! [:D] [:p][^]
  • I chose the GP38-2. It's a great little locomotive for all the right jobs.

I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THAT LOCOMOTIVE.

    PA-2's are ALCO's -

Stay safe, support your local hobby group Stop, Look, and listen The key to living is to wake up. you don't wake up you are probably dead.
  • It is simply what a freight loco should look like. F/FP45's have a good look, but look a lot better at the front of a passenger consist.
  • What about the F40PH?
    Save the F40PH!
  • SD40-2 "Snoots" on the UP were my favorites back in the 70s. Now it's C44ACs. Sure, they look a lot like DASH-9s. But AC technology puts 'em over the edge.

Now can I just go on record as saying that the new GEVOs don't look proportionally correct? They're a BIG improvement over the AC6000s. But they're not nearly as good-looking as the C44.
  • Deff ACe's. I like the shape of their noses.
