All are either black and white NS, unpainted primer NS or patched blue and white Conrails. Where CSX alone is colorful and bonus with all the leasers and foreigners! So, I like CSX better than NS, not saying NS sucks. It's my 5th or 6th favorite.Richard
Like what?
Heres a excellent run down on their locomotives.

Having worked with NS and now with BNSF , NS is a much better run railroad , BNSF is like working with amatures .
I clearly favor NS., Plus the Black and White paint job can't be beat.
What do I think about Norfolk Southern?
Honest answer? Mostly, I don't. It's over there, and I'm over here. I have seen NS locos on the BNSF in Northern Arizona, But not on my local UP line. Any other interest I may have had died with 611 and 1218.

what i ike about Norfolk Southern;
1 They have a better than railroad average reputation with shippers.
2. They appear to do top rank maintenance on track and equipment.
3. They are in the forfront of innovatrion, like Triple Crown roadrailers.
4. They make an honest attempt to keep Amtrak on time on their lines.
5. They do a thorough job on training crews.
what could be improved?
Crews generaly find management too impersonal. too much top down and not enough "We welcome your suggestions."

lately i've been blessed with good stuff in Altoona. the ZCHEM/ZEMCH roadrailer trains now come through with NS power leading. i have seen NS 6711, an NS SD70M, and several C40-9Ws now. and i'm in no hurry to see this end. i hope i see more SD60s than just 6711. and hopefully NS will send some more good stuff like SD40-2s, SD70s, ES40DCs, and SD70M-2s. this is a good year!
LONG LIVE THE NORFOLK SOUTHERN!
Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.
I have to admit I like the NS. I was worried when we lost Conrail to NS here in Delaware but for the most point it has worked out great. NS created its own business unit here (Delmarva Business Unit of DBU for short) and started running the Delmarva Secondary line as a short line with-in the NS system and the last I read car loadings are on an increase... and we even have new businesses building by the tracks again The crews here are friendly enough, if u ask a question they usally answer it and if you wave to the engine crews [GASP] they know how to wave back at you. In fact the first town you come to south of the small yard in Harrington there are always kids wondering around on the weekends and I have witnessed a few times that if the kids make the horn blow jestures with thier hand they usally get a few more toots of the air horn just for them.... thats something that is hard to find these days with other railroads. I will admit I don't get to see much of the other big railroads except CSX in Wilmington, DE... I HATE CSX I don't know how many times they have blocked Centerville Road just off of Route 141 as trains make thier way into the big rail yard there and kept it blocked for hours sometimes.... And its times like that I wonder how come they can't run a railroad as good as NS can!
They are called Nazi Southern for a reason.
Love the new Thouroughbred logo, and the paint scheme.
