I wish I could get my rainy day pics to look as good as Mike's...especially with that nice reflection off the rails...and the loco headlights don't flush out the rest of the train...but I chose Erik's, as you can nearly get a feel for the speed in that scenic country and being there. Great photos both.

BN creme and green gets the vote as they are fading fast. The pacing shot was good, but just like the older locomotives at work. Now for the photo of Pamela, absolutely great shot you sly ole dog..........

I liked mike's picture better because it shows what freight trains are all about. Getting the load through no matter what.

Erik..would a polarizer or Neutral Density Filter have helped in the cloud photos?
Mike, you needed to get Pamela in front of a train to submit that photo....lol!!
I liked Mike's shot this week not only for the composition, but I'm really impressed on the Rebel's low light capabilities...that's what's selling me on replacing the old film SLR's (except 1) with a Rebel. I bought my wife the Canon Powershot S1- IS (same features as Rebel in a point and shoot with 10X zoom), used it at a recent concert and the stage shots came out great...equal to my old way of using 1000 ISO film pushed to 1600. I cant wait to see what the Rebel can do. (BTW used to take concert photos for a living)

Tough choise this week, although Erik came out on top. His exposure makes every element in the photo "pop" out at you. I did like the framing of Mike's between those high signals.

Like the photo of the BNSF train, but Mike's photo got my vote. There's something about the rainy day with the coal drag that I like. stcastle

Mike,in the late 1960s, Railroad Magazine regularly published photos of young,scantily clad women with trains behind them.Maybe you could try this[8D].

I voted for Mike's photo. My very simple reasoning is the same one that I used for several years when I was a much more active photographer: trains run no matter what the weather.

I voted for Erik's pacing shot, but not only because it is a great pacing shot, where the loco looks like it's about to jump off the track into the air. I also like the colors and terrain of the southwest (where trains run on a terrainy day [;)]), and we don't get to see this much in all those midwest shots.

Man o man... what a tough vote for me. Triple tough.

Obviously voting for Pamela Anderson is a no brainer... but that was not to be.

Now it's down to two photos. I'm a BNSF fan, so both railroad subjects are great. I absolutely love Erik's pacing shot, a BNSF pacing through Arizona, one of my favorite places in the country. The photo is beautiful, but I couldn't vote for it. I voted for Mike's. Turns out I'm originally from LaPorte, IN, born and raised there, but now live in Saint Louis. So I voted for the home town. My only question is, where were you standing Mike? you mention an overpass, and the only two I can think of off the top of my head is the US35 overpass in downtown LaPorte next to the courthouse, and Fail Road crossing east of downtown.

I have to give this one to Mike for a change. The dreary day, the long train, the reflections, the heat, it just seems like more of a gritty, real life shot.
