Trackside with Erik and Mike, Vol. 9: June 7, 2004

  • I voted for number 3, it seems to have the best lighting over the other shots. I have found that digital lacks a bit on those overcast or cloudy days.

  • Voting this week was much more difficult. I went with the geometry and context of shot 1. Shot 3 did have more drama - as well as two GE's smokin'. I want to see shot 2 shifted just enough to the right to miss the track entering on the lower left corner - I found it more distracting to the composition. But, I find a head-on shot to better imply movement and power.
  • I like number 3 best. I like the exhast and I like the angle of the two trains.

  • Number 3 was certainly the very best! It gives the best overall view of the BNSF train and the CP train on the bridge overhead adds another element to the picture that depicts more railroad action. This looks like the type of picture that would be used as the cover of book or a model train catalogue.
  • HI:
I liked # 1 because of the tracks visable under the bridge, also for the paradox of a train fitting under spans marked "no clearance."
  • #1 without a doubt. I love the way it illustrates the yard trackage in addition to showing the BNSF and CP trains. I also like the green & white BN caught in the background :-) It just seems to be a much more interesting shot all around.
  • I voted for number 3 because the bridge is a total distraction in the other 2 pictures. Plus the power of those BNSF's is obvious and awesome. Thanks again guys for your hard?? work for our benifit. Robertdale
  • I voted for # 1. [^] I thought it was good due to better color contrast and the tracks stood out very well. Wondered about the "No Clearance". Also, I have been looking for another camera and due to Erik and Mike's series, they peeked my interest in the Digital Rebel and I bought one. WOW, what a camera. Gotta run now and go find some trains.
  • I like three because you can see the train from a diffrent view to be honest i liked all of them
  • I went with number three because you can see the full CP units and that exaust is awesome!

Boy, there are alot of member posting for the first time today, I'm glad to see that.

  • I voted for #2. It shows more detail and the color is more saturated. Good photography.
  • Hey, I think I'm finally going to vote for a winner by choosing #3. It really captures the action better because of the angle from which it was taken. I have never really liked shots that are taken too close to the tracks. All you get is "nose", and little side detail of the engine.
  • I picked #1 though I found all to be too dark and poorly focused.
  • Number 1. The yard added interest to at least ONE of the three ho hum photos. That said thanks for something other than the telephoto 3/4 head shot!!

  • I voted #1 for the fact of it being a true over/under shot! I`ts composition is much better in my opionion.[banghead][X-)]
