Trains.com Reader Poll - June 2004

  • My Google news says Tennessee Valley Rairoad I running an "Arrow Train" to the Great City of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
    Allen/Backyard
  • I am trying to schedule a 9 day Colorado trip for early fall to all the tourist rails there. I want to go Amtrak but am having the devil trying to schedule with them. The dates dont jive, service isnt available, or equipment isnt available. So I wont be going. Im sure Im not the only one who would ride trains a lot more if there were some!
  • I PLAN TO GO TO SEVERAL RAILROADS THIS SUMMER IN AROUND PENNA. [:)]
  • Bennysrr If you can visit the East Broad Top in Orbisonia.I was born 6 miles from there and walked many miles of the abandoned line and tried to imagine what is was like.
  • jimbo5246
I HAVE BEEN TO EAST BROAD TOP SEVERAL TIMES , LAST YEAR THE TROLLEY LINE WAS MADE LONGER, ONE OF THE WORKERS UP THEIR WAS FROM WHERE I LIVE, HERE IN LEBANON PA.. I ALSO GO CAMPING AT COWANS GAP. I WAS THEIR LAST ,TUESDAY TO THURSDAY. BEN[ tup] [:)] NICE STATE PARK.
  • No, as the nearest track from where I live is 120 miles away and there is no passenger service or tourist traffic. The closest passenger service is 200 miles, and the nearest tourist attraction is over 300 miles away. This would involve planning a trip and none is planned.
  • Yes, I plan to go down to the Ohio Central as many times as I can this summer and fall. The last weekend in July and first of August they while have the Trainfest at Dennison Ohio with many steam locomotives and many trips in a three day period. Plus many other rail related programs and even a rail flea market. What a treasure we have here in Ohio with the Ohio Central willing to run big steam. I hope many will come out and help to suport their effort in keeping the old locomotives under steam. I also hope to get to the Western Maryland, Cass and the East Broad Top, the Lord willing. We don't really know how long these operations will survive in the furture with the cost of fuel and insurance. Let's hope my grand kids and their children will get to see a big steam train in operation like I did for many years.

  • Planning on traveling to Omaha area in two weeks and seeing one there as well as UP museum. Anybody who wants a good time go to the Verde Canyon Railway or the Napa Wine Train.
    Eolafan (a.k.a. Jim)
  • I picked yes. I am going to be taking rides on the NYSW.[:)][:)]
  • My wife and I will once again be travelling to Sacramento via the California Zephyr out of Chicago in August. Time and schedule permitting, we would like to try the Shasta Dinner Train or the Napoa Valley Wine Train (again), but most definitely the Roaring Camp at Felton. We were there in 1999 and enjoyed every minute of the trip and the surrounding shops, but didn't get to see the mock logging operation, as it was after Labor Day. This year we will be there in August. Also hope to visit the Cal. State RR museum as often as possible, along with Bruce's Treain Shop in Sacramento where I will probably spend a baby fortune.
  • I will be riding the Texas State RR again this summer and probably visit the Strasburg RR also. Those are both favorite spots.

  • YOU BETTER VISIT THE GEORGETOWN LOOP RAILROAD BEFORE THEY CLOSE DOWN. They have some nice engines. There telephone is 800-691-4386. This maybe your last chance to ride (goverment cut-backs).
  • i like trains but i have never rode on one
  • It's the San Pedro Trolley and Orange Empire for me this summer. I may live in N. Florida, where the tourist action is weak, but I'm a So. Cal boy forever, and OERM is my favorite.
  • Yup, we went for a ride on 2816 CPR Hudson, then in July we are heading to Steamtown for 2 days, Strasburg for 2 (and Horseshoe curve), then visiting East Broad Top during midweek (although I'm not sure if they are open), and then fianally Altoona. Can't wait !!
