  • Wow, what a variety of railroads there will be on the range then, between the DMIR,BLE,CN,IC, and possibly a few J's.

  • Nooooooooooo! We can't lose anymore! The 670 was just reassigned to Waterloo, IA, which really sickens me as 670 is one of my favorite J engines. 672 was also reassigned to Waterloo. I did catch the 673 and 671 switching Homewood today. It was a sad and cool sight at the same time. It sickens me to see the J power leaving Joliet just two weeks after the merger, but it was cool seeing J power at Homewood. It also makes me say one thing, hopefully the J engines show the CN junk who's boss! The news of 670 being sent to Iowa really got me mad though. I also caught JSW1 today. It has the perfect consist, 654 in J-ball paint and 665! I really hope history repeats itself and 654 leads JSW1 tommorow as well.

  • Thanks! Now I'm gonna have nightmares about that all night! Just joking! I don't even want to think of that! Thats the last thing I want to happen to the J power. Other than the initials under the cab of DM&IR 212 you'd never know it was a Missabe engine.

  • Well, I hope they dont paint them either but if they do they wont look bad. Wonder why the two are going to Waterloo, Im guessing for local service out there?

  • I agree Alec, CN should atleast send some to the WC division. Those J SD38s are probably doing local work out there, that's going to be weird for them, EJE SD38s out in...Iowa? I know WC 6005 was working out there, but now, I don't know where she is. Storage I'm guessing? I might have to make a trip to the Missabe again if CN sends some J SD38s up there. Then there would be alot of color up there, definatly worth another trip.

  • I've heard the same rumor about the EJ&E SD38s being sent up to the Missabe from a couple of sources. To me it would kind of make sense, as you could consolidate your "oddball" power in one spot, and the SD38s do make nice motors for ore/T-bird service from what I'm told. I find it odd though that the CN was retiring the Missabe SD38s for so long there, and then they got to the last 5 and suddenly stopped, as though they realized it was a mistake. The rumor still persists that the CN may suddenly send a bunch of B&LE SD40-3s up to the Missabe as well, but that one's been around for a while and it hasn't actually happened yet.

I agree with what Jordan said though, why send the SD38s to Iowa? Doesn't really make sense unless the CN simply wanted to "try them out" in another area.

    Noah

  • I think CN is trying them out in yard service. I still don't see all of the EJ&E SD38-2s going to the Missabe, maybe just 3-4 at the most. I've heard they would be used specifically for the T-birds to free up any SD40-3s that are used on those trains now for the bigger trains on the Missabe. Lets look at the positive, this is a huge complement to the people at Gary shops who rebuilt the SD38-2s. CN is reassigning the SD38-2s to important roles on their railroad and not storing them, all while SD40-2s are being stored left and right. Good job Gary shop!

I was hoping CN would've reassigned 670 and 672 to Hawthorne, it would've made a lot more sense to run them on locals and on the transfer to Bensenville. Maybe CN will get that there really isn't a point in sending them to Iowa and assign them to Hawthorne. Jordan, I think you might get your SD38-2 in Wausau, a SD38-2 is a excellent asset for any local service and it would make sense to have one. However, I think at least some will remain in Joliet for the yard here. I very much doubt CN will keep the SW1200s so they'll need them.

Sending more B&LE SD40-3s would make sense. I've heard CN has several B&LE engines stored in Pennslyvania due to business slowing down thanks to the economy.

  •  But Robby you have to realize that the Gary Shops owes the fine men at Proctor one, as them keeping your units came at the expense of ours. They finally realized how well built and maintained our units were, and decided to look closer at others.

Boy I guess I live in EMD country.

    Today me and Kale saw 8 GP's (1 GP35 and GP39E), 3 MU's SD40-2's all in H1 with a blue GP along for the ride, 2 SW1500 working hard, 5 SD70MACS, 3 SD70ACe's, 4 CN SD40-2's, 2 B&LE SD45T-2's, 2 Missabe (maroon) SD38-2's, and 2 CN (DMIR) SD45T-2's. and ONE, JUST ONE, ES44AC. Getting rather boring..Whistling

Ya with all the EMD's here im starting tob wish to see some GE stuff up here Laugh

  • Ha, I don't even know the last time I saw a GE. NJT's diesels are GP40PH-2s (As and Bs also), GP40FH-2s (mostly gone), F40PH-2CATs, PL42ACs (Alstom), and P40DCs (ACES service, on RVL for the last two years or so, have yet to see one). Around here, NS runs only GPs, maybe an occasional SD whatever.

IF I get all my homework done, I'll head out to Dover tomorrow. The video camera doesn't work with either computer :( but I'll take some pictures. Eventually, I'm going to try to get pictures of all locos, electric and diesel. Stuff always gets moved around (or just misrouted by the MMC Tongue), and Dover gets electric and diesel consists. Hopefully, the ex-CNJ units stay long enough for me to get as many as I can. Just hope it goes better than last time...

  • Heh heh... Like when I planned to bike 10 miles to go railfanning, then it got vetoed because of ONE busy underpass! That's the only one I can use to cross Route 9 without detouring onto a state highway miles away...

  • Well, it's time for the two day trip report. We'll start with JSW1 once again. They had a good pair leading it, 654 and 665! Here it is passing the depot in Plainfield. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494392

Here they are again coming into Minooka. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494393

Of course, the Minooka shot yet again, but with a J-ball on the point! http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494395

Then it was off to Homewood. Right off the bat here is EJ&E 673 switching the yard! http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1491477

671 is the other one that was moved here. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494401

EJ&E and CN power together, the J is showing who's boss here! http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494398

673 pulls out of the yard with another cut of cars. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1491478

Then it backs up towards the engine terminal to finish up for the day. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494403

    One more of 673. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1491479

Now onto Sunday's trip, here is the State Line coal train with 664, 650 (straight SD38) and 662 (J-ball) on the point. This one is at Crest Hill on the Western Sub. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494408

Now onto the Eastern Sub, the trio begins the uphill climb out of Joliet. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494409

Here they are again at New Lenox, in full throttle of course! http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494410

    Again at Frankfort. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494411

Here they are again, but this time in a new location, Chicago Heights, where the J crosses the old C&EI, now UP/CSX joint line from Yard Center to St. Louis. A interlocking tower still exists here behind me but it has been closed for a very long time, Jay Tower, named after EJ&E's "J" nickname. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494412

Back at Homewood, here is the 673 again. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494416

    Another one. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1492059

The money shot! EJ&E, GTW and IC meet at the railroad park! http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494417

Another one of the same view. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1492057

The GTW, 4927 waits to depart. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494418

Two OC RS18s sit in front of the shop, in the exact location where WC SD45s and BC Rail RS18s were cut up. Not good! http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494419

Now onto Wilmington, Amtrak NPCU 90222 crosses the Kankakee River, in Phase III paint! http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494420

    P42 30 trails. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494421

Minutes later, Amtrak P42 14 crosses the same bridge with the NB Texas Eagle. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1494422

Overall, it was a excellent weekend!
