  • Nice photos and videos there Ty and Brent!

The picture you got onto Railpictures Brent is nice. That's one of the early SD60F's from '85, which looks identical to the now retired/storage SD50F's.

I have photos from Saturday, including a nice rainbow of power. I'll do a "trip report" style, although I didn't take too many photos, still like concentrating on making great video, not so-so photo and video.

  • Well today I had a choice to make, there were two trains sitting at Rockdale, a westbound CSX manifest or the eastbound IAIS ethanol train. I decided to skip the IAIS and go after CSX, the reason being IAIS had a GEVO on it while CSX had a duo of SD40-2s on the front and a freshly repainted GP15T on the rear. I caught it passing the depot at Morris. The vid should be up anytime now and pics will be coming later,

  • or anything that will run for more than 2mins up proctor hill...and with S3L's too it I had a choice...lol

  • Well, today was a great day, as the train traffic has picked up considerably this week, and has allowed me to catch quite a few trains.

BNSF SD70MAC 9886 leads an eastbound coal train down the Brainerd Sub. Another MAC, 8820, is trailing.

And at the tail end of everything is the crown jewel. SD70ACE 9259 serves as the DPU. Though I'd have loved to see this at the point, simply catching the ACE is good enough for now.

Don't fret, I was pulled over on the shoulder of the road when I took this.

At this point, my front right wheel became a bit buried in the snow. It took a few minutes, but I got out with no harm done.

  • Heck, right now I wouldn't be shocked if CN sent some EJ&E engines away, traffic is so down here it's not even funny. They probably could run it with half of the SD38-2s. However, you already are spoiled with good power in Duluth so I think the EJ&Es should stay here so I at least have something good!

Here are two photos of the CSX train going through Morris on the old Rock mainline. It's very rare to see CSX in good afternoon light on this line. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1480202

This is a shot I've been wanting for years, passing the restored Rock Island depot in Morris. The depot here has been well kept. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1480203

    Here is the vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLnrWMefqJY&feature=channel_page

The crossing bell also dates back to Rock Island days, for sure a throwback in time. Also you can easily see where the second track used to cross the road!

  • Nice there Robby!

There is video of 1502 on Youtube if you want to hear her P5...

I haven't gotten around to editing the photos, and I'm out all weekend, so hold your horses! I'll proove I actually railfanned soon! Tongue

    Alex

  • Yeah I watched the vid of 1502's P5 horn, I was hoping it would be a O/C P5 but it was a N/C P5. Still pretty rare for a CSX though. I was hoping the SD40-2 leading would have a RS5T but it had a K5LA. Oh well, I'm not going to complain about a duo of SD40-2s just because of the horn.

  • My night couldn’t have been better…I was at Spirit Mountain…Duluth’s ski hill…and guess who’s main line parallels the slopes…the DMIR…I was serenaded by 645’s climbing the hill and dynamic brakes whining as one train descended…I caught the second train but didn’t have my camera…my two favorite things in the world…skiing and the classic EMD…at the same time it was great!   Smile,Wink, & Grin

Hooray for skiing! That sounds like a great place to ski! Tongue

I may be taking the MBTA from Worcester to Boston in a week and a half with some friends from my photography class. We'll take photos all day (not railroad ones, but I'll be able to get some of those at either end of the train ride plus the subway) then ride the train back. I'm really looking forward to it, and hopefully I'll have some photos to share! Cool

  • Well, I caught JSW1 today and it had a bonus, 665 was on the point! I was getting concerned that 665 would stay around Gary but it decided to come pay me a visit today! Tongue

I got quite a few photos and two vids of it, including my brand new avatar showing my favorite EJ&E engine.

Sounds like CN has already had a accident on the J, a switcher sideswiped the Line Train at Joliet Yard. The Line Train's engines were not damaged, but SW1200 322 wasn't switching Joliet today which is not a good sign, 306 was paired with the 316 instead of 322. Nobody was injured in the accident, but it blocked the Metra Rock Island district for 45 minutes, more problems for Metra! CN is off to a good start with the J... One engine already possibly down thanks to them.

  •  Well me and Kale went out for some night railfanning, and after stopping at our shop (which currently has our SW1 in for work) we proceeded to see SD40's, GP39's (one of which blew fire out of its stack), Cream and Green SD70MAC's, maroon tunnel motors, and NO G.E.'S!!

    Pics later.

  • Robby, I gave you a virtual applause for choosing the CSX train, I also saw some of Nick Harts shots. Good stuff!

Well, while all of you guys get 645's, I got crap today. CP 290 had a GEVO and a AC44, CP 372 had the same, CP 599 had a UP GEVO, SD70M, and C44-9W, and the BNSF had SD70MAC's on a coal load and some Toasters on the mainline as well. The WC Transfer also only had a pair of 75I's.No spartan cabs on the mains.......

  • Don’t forget the SW1500 the two GP38’s and all the healthy comments made by the crews on the radios lol….o and I did a little research on our fire breathing beast….she still is a GP35 weather she will be rebuild like her Santa Fe kin?.. Who knows...o and a side not about those SD70MAC’s the crew was having a problem with one of the locomotives trucks always pulling in the opposite direction of the others... I bet they just loved their lives at that point…but they seamed to get the problem worked out after blocking the only crossing over the darn yard!
