Well, been kind of a slow week. Kind of sucks, too, as this is the final week I'll have to fan the area, as I'm making a move to the Duluth Superior area next week. Can't say I'm not looking forward to it, though, as I'll have a ton of new places to fan. Speaking of which, what's there to see over on the Superior side of things as far as railroading goes? I've seen a couple of yards, but I know there's more.
Anyway, earlier this week, I caught this gem heading up, with a "Swoosh" MAC leading.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJE1dqpO4II&feature=channel_page
Well... That defanately is a SWOOSH! Weather that means the swoosh of the BNSF logo or the swoosh of the train as a whole, it is a great video! That is way longer than any train we ever see down this way! I figured that there would be a Mac pushing.
The road to to success is always under construction. _____________________________________________________________________________ When the going gets tough, the tough use duct tape.
Well today i got to do some railfanning after school,
I got home grabbed my things, went back to school to work out for a bit, then i headed down to Dale,
1st up is the 408 w/ some Decent power
yes jordan thats the slug set thats been switching point the past few months.
well after about a hour goes by RTC calls the 595 working in Waupaca it was WC 3007 that in 15 mins they needed to clear for a NB well figured 15 mins the NB was close. well sure enough they were.
i hate how this turned out, luckely they called the RTC 7 they said we need to make a emergency stop our leading motor isnt working properly. if you remember the 5774 i seen a few weeks ago on that chase at the same location.
O boy what a suprise
Well i go to Shaky Lake rd & tyr to get a pic there but then i rememberd it isnt theb ets place to shoot NB's at this time of the day but once i got there they got rollin, thye had to shut the leading motor off & start up the Trailing motor & MU off of it from the leading locomotive & the leading loco was isolated to keep the ditch lights on. what i shoulda done was went to the next rd to shoot it then i possibly coulda had a RP shot.
i like this
i felt like running to weyauwega to get the 595 but i didnt.
I think those are great pictures! I got my ordre of 3 Amfleet Amtrak coaches today. I also got a Vally Growers assn. steel grain elevator. That NS loco is the norm down here. Swing by, and wele go fanning together.
I just got a tip from a highly credible source that 4 EJ&E SD38-2s have been reassigned to the WC. Unfortunatly for me 665, my favorite SD38-2 is among them. Goodbye 665, it was nice while it lasted. Looks like it's time to find a new avatar photo.
Units going to the WC will be the 662, 665, 666 (hey Jordan, you might get a 666 unit!) and the 674. From what I heard, they'll be going to Superior, but I doubt all 4 will remain there. They'll be coming north on the WC so keep a close eye out for them!
I'm sure other people are enjoying the Js, but I'll say it like it is, it's sad to see something that lasted 122 years get taken away in two months. Since the takeover, 650, 661, 662, 665, 666, 669, 670, 671, 672, 673 and 674 have been sent away, plus all the SDMs, 654, 659 and all but two switchers have been sidelined. What is left of the road power is 656, 657, 658, 660, 663, 664, 667, 668, 675 and 703, plus two switchers. The J had almost more than 40 engines on January 31st, now there are 12 left in Joliet, quite sad.
At least the WC lasted 7 years and the DM&IR lasted 4, the J is dead, officially dead in my book, just 2 1/2 months later. I caught a trio of EJ&Es on the Line Train today but I bet that will be one of the last EJ&E trios.
Noah: OUTSTANDING photos and trip report! That's my railroad fix for the week!
Joe: Sad to hear about the C1s. I actually saw one of them on the 11th, while driving to NJ to visit relatives. Sadly, the M&E train was cancelled because of the rain, otherwise I'd have photo and video... Here's a really lousy shot (from the highway) of the car near the rear of a SB train on the NEC...

I'll have a full trip report from NJ (all from the highway, but there are a couple okay ones) in a few days...
...But! I'm headed to New York for a photo shoot next weekend! Two full days of fanning in the Big Apple! Plus rides in the front of a Metro-North MU set with a window out the front! Grand Central Terminal, here I come!
Here's my short trip report... Just a couple shots on the car window on the 4-hour drive from MA to NJ...
First up is the IRT "4" line at the Mt. Eden Ave station. Shot on the way there on I-95.
Coming back was a bit more eventful. First, we paced an ALP-46 for a bit on I-280 East.
Then I caught some Metro-North action in Stamford, CT...
Ok, check this out and scroll down to the last photo! http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?p=235254#post235254
Consist on a local at Duplainville was WC 3004, IC 6202, EJ&E 674, EJ&E 666, EJ&E 662 and 665. 4 Js, one of 5 remaining WC GP40s and one of a few deathstar IC 6200s, thats quite a consist. Now if it were exactly reversed with 665 leading (as it should!) we'd be in business! Joking, a WC is fine!
Watch out for those J engines, keep a very close eye out for bright orange SD38-2s on the WC! As I stated before, they're heading to Superior but that doesn't mean a stray one can't find its way to Fon Du Lac or Stevens Point to show the EJ&E experience in person. A word of advice to people on the WC, J SD38-2s are very addicting and can lead to obcessions, so be cautious!
Wisconsin Railfans (there are a lot of you here), welcome to the EJ&E family!
If Js do start getting assigned to Point or Fondy I may consider a trip up that way.
Alright, starting things off, a Dash 9 strayed into my neck of the woods, pulling a rail train, as there's a great deal of work going on. It's backlit, but there wasn't much I could do.
From there, it's up to the Twin Ports again, looking for jobs(and trains while I'm there, of course).
First up, I find these two LLPX GPs pulling a gondola in Superior.
A quick drive to the 28th Street Yard gives me a chance to shoot the new Taconite cars. Ironically, the Dash 9 I caught near the house the day before was now pulling this load of cars.
Near by, an RC SD40-2 awaits its next duty.
Onto Proctor, where the Roadswitch was leaving town, with two repaints, meaning no photos or video was taken. It was worth noting that DM&IR 212 was at the facility, though no good photos could be taken. However, soon, DM&IR 403 was coming into the yard behind two repaints.
Back home, I catch a coal empty heading west with a trio of MACs.

Next, another empty, this one with a GEVO leading.

A pic of the DPU, an SD70ACE
And finally, a load of coal, with an ACE leading.

Well i had a unexpected day today.
A freind of mine from Rapids calls me wnats me to come & do something so i ask my parents to borrow toe car to go to applton( wow way off!) well so we go well as im coming into weyauwega to get to waupaca since the main route is closed. i see no train but i look in my sideview mirrors & theres a train & i seen orange so i pull off to the side & try to get pics, didnt work. luckely i was able to get ahead of it & make it to amherst to get pics. there was another train there, the O490 is there
now the 407
what a great day
Alex
I'm gonna miss the 662 and the 665! 654 was stored and 703 is heading back to Waukegan, so no more J-balls in Joliet. I notice that 674 is no longer with the others, makes me wonder if CN is going to use it elsewhere on the WC.
Railfan AlexWow! What a consist!
Most defanately! Only if we could get it to roll down the line in Chicago now. Mom got me a new camra today. It's a Sony DSC 20H. It is an upgrade from 8 megapixels to 10.1! I am SOOOO thankfull that it has very little shutter lag. Yes I did thank mom graciously.
Exactly, if only that consist would come to Chicagoland, in a place like EJ&E's Joliet Yard with the 665 leading! Brent, I'm sure you now know as good as me that Js stick out compared to other engines. Too bad they couldn't let one lead to get the real EJ&E experience!
yes they do stand out,
that was the 2nd thing i noticed when i was looking in my sideview mirror 1st was the train commin behind me.
I heard from a credible source that the 674 is going North out of Green Bay up to Gladstone & possibly SSM. must be seeing how they work. so maybe after all CN wont be getting rid of the J units if they see how well they perform up here.
