Trains.com Reader Poll - February 2004

  • Verizon DSL on my home network. To many kids here for dialup. Cant wait till kids are old enough to make them pay for a t1. Joe
  • Suggestion: Put an expiration date on all polls. You should get an increase in participation when people realize that the poll will not go on forever. Now, there is no way of knowing and I can always take the poll later. :-)

  • I ONLY WISH I COULD AFFORD DSL. MY MONEY GOES TO MY TRAINS.
  • I read Trains.com from work when I'm not busy. [:)] We use a broadband T1 connection. I have used 56K at home and it is VERY slow compared to what we have here. MH
  • I use the DSL at the local library, nice and fast. It make it handy to watch the web cams here in Rochelle, I get to watch and hear them at the same time.
  • I use 56k through the free Jana caching proxy hooked to a wireless/wired switch (smc) for a home network. Before the proxy, everything was slow, but once the site was cached on the server, everything flew. I have a T1 through a 100baseT LAN at work and occaisionally I'll peek at Trains.com. There is no difference in speed from my 56k.

Just don't try to upload/download files or games on a cached 56k.
  • I use cable, it's a big improvement over 56k modem.
    Enjoy
    Paul
If you're having fun, you're doing it the right way.
  • Mine is 115.200 BPS with a web accelerator 56k modem.I like so the pages come up quick for me I Love It
  • I'm on a 3000/256 Cable Modem with Adelphia Powerlink here in Northwestern California (Redwood Valley, near Ukiah), I get 3200 down and 240-260 up on a 24x7/ 365 basis and very low latency, sure makes watching rail cams (especially the one at Willis Steel in Galesburg, best one by the way, no refreshing, this baby's live!) nice!
  • I access this site mostly from home via cable, but sneak in a few times while at work over their broadband net.

  • Well everyone is blowing their horn on what they have, and how much it cost them.
We all see much the same thing. I started out on a 486 with a connect of 9800.
Wow! have we come a long way. Oh yea the cost was $30.00 a month back then.
Who knows what awaits us in the future.
I pay less with DSL now.
I just had to get my two cents worth in.
