In central Maine we have lots of trees, and attached to those tress are 56K connections ....'patience is a virtue'.

I just changed over to DSL from 56K, and the difference is like night and day! MR's website is such a pleasure to peruse, and I don't miss a word of it.
If you're considering a change to high-speed internet, don't pass it up if you can possibly afford it...My blood pressure has notched down 10 or 20 points since I'm not all stressed out waiting for something to happen on dial-up.

I use dialup 56k modem which runs at 57.6k so I don't have a problem and don't find the extra expense necessary. More money for more trains.

I'm in high-speed heaven - office broadband at work, home wireless connection to cable broadband at home. Images, videos - ya gotta have broadband!

if anyone is on dialup at home on a second phone line, and has the option of DSL or cable modem, make sure you know the true cost of the second phone line. In the Atlanta area, even for a dumbed-down, no frills second line, the various taxes and fees drive the cost of the second line into the high $20's. So it isn't as huge a leap to DSL or Broadband as you might think, if you can drop the second phone line.

Was on dial up but when we moved the cable company offtered a deal to try their product. Would never go back now. Much faster and more enjoyable to surf.

Sticking with Comcast Cable, especially since they just up'd the speed from 2 MB to 4 MB. It's expensive ($46 Mo), but I couldn't stand the fustration I used to get with dial up. Surfing the Internet is no different than using programs in my computer. Really nice not tying up our phone line, the wife does that, especially now that we have AT&T unlimited long distance for $30 Mo.

The redneck from Buzzard Roost here in the East Tn Mountains. We just got the comcast dsl 3 yrs ago & wldnt have anything else now. Can look at your site ,download & get pictures as soon as I click on them. Dial-up is sooooo sss-ll-oo-ww. Dsl is definitely woth the $24.95 extra per month. trains move like they are spposed to on the web cam & watch videos just like the movies. really like your site.keep up good work

Get a very good response with 56K at the present time. Enjoy this site along with many others.
Am thinking about upgradding to broadband here at home once I have more up-to-date hardware. Currently running a 200MMX w/ 4+2GB HDD's[*^_^*] and a 500MHz lap with 11GB HDD[sigh].

Here in eastern Pa. I am using RCN DSL. Speed isn't that important to me as long as it gets the job done.

I still use the dial-up. I have seen the high-speed and can't say I'm not impressed, but until the cost is less than my cable bill, I'll be sticking with the dail-up.

I guess it depends on how much money one can afford another is availability, and finally preference especially when choosing between cable or DSL.

The most important thing is you have an internet connection.

Here in southern Maine I enjoy Road Runner cable,it's fast ,dependable and not frustrating,easy on the nerves. I've used dial up at relatives,I'LL KEEP MY BEEP BEEP THANK YOU.[:-^]
