  • The train was moving at a very slow speed so here it is again at Ancona.

A NS SD70M heads west into Ancona.

Now onto Toluca, where a large hill overlooks the tracks. It requires a bit of hiking to get to the top for shots, but it is worth it. Here is a BNSF Z-train as viewed from the top of the hill.

A very faded BNSF Dash 9 heads west through the small town of Reading.

Just west of Kernan, a westbound NS powered stack train heads through,

At Kernan itself, a westbound auto train splits the ATSF signals.

At Ransom, another stack train heads under the grain elevator complex.

  • The faded BNSF unit doesn't look half bad. I think it looks better than the orange and green though. (worked for GN, but not BNSF)

Also, EJE 666? Wonder if the driver is evil.Laugh [(-D]

All of mine are P2K. I have 2 SD9s, 2 GP9s, and 2 GP30s. (It's kind of like noah's arc for equipment, I usually have at least two of everything)

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

    2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

  • So who here likes orange?

    Edit:

    Newsflash!

CN has suspended all operations in western Canada because it's too cold!

Many trains can't get their air up because they're too long.

    CN FAILZ!

  • Sweet pictures robby. I haven't see BNSF loco THAT faded before.

Well I was digging through some of my old photos today as I have a day off from school. I went back to my frist real railfan related trip to Point. Looking throgh my shots I found one of 6006 I over looked. I thought it waa a good enough shot to hang on my wall. Better than the roster shot i had of her. anyway i photo shopped it to bring up the light. Even thouhg it is still very dark. It does bring back memorys of watching her pull out of Point. It started to like poor for a few seonds then all of a sudden it stopped.

Another couple of shots I dug out was of the SD60M trio at Rochelle. These two I looked over.

As you can tell, I am bored.

So the air for the brakes is to cold? Or is it the air for the engines itself to cold? The former I have an idea that could fix it, the later, another idea that is similar.

  • The main problem with cold has to do with the pressure in the train line. Pressure varies with temperature, so when it gets too cold the air pressure can't be brought up to the full 90 PSI at the end of a long train. There's normally a slight difference, but when it gets too cold there's too much of a drop in pressure and the train isn't allowed to move. I forget what the FRA (or is it AAR?) standard is for the amount of pressure difference allowed between the head end and the rear.

Some neat shots posted lately guys. I've got the day off today too thanks to the cold/ice/snow, though I've just been busy bringing some of the model railroad equipment up to standard (things like metal wheels, Kadee couplers, etc). Also been working a little more on the website that I'm building. I'm hoping to "launch" it sometime in the next few weeks.

Better get back to doing something productive!

  • Yeah, what he said....

CP's still running, though they're having problems because the fuel's getting near gel.

nssr, I don't recall CN having actually shut down all their operations in such a large area before!

Oh, and I just ordered a used XT because I CANNOT stand not being able to take a good picture!

Last year trains were stacked up like crazy in the Duluth/Superior area due to cold temps in Canada (here in northern Minnesota it was -50), and some derailments due to the rail splitting during the cold days , it only lasted for a day or two, have to ask my CN informant for the specifics, he had to work extra days to help elevate the backup problems stateside.

  • We had to use an air repeater car + manned helpers to get the CN trains up Steelton Hill.
