Finally some "closure" on the SD45 topic.

WC 7495 is heading north today on 343, past Duplainville at 7am. And she is most likely heading for Max, or the Duluth Railroad Museum! Max, Im comin up to Duluth very soon, I'll give you a holler.

Hopefully she will. At least one WC SD45 will be preserved.

  • Good to hear the 7495 was aved. I just saw that engine in the deadline at Homewood about a month ago. Couldn't get any photos because it would've required some serious trespassing.

Wow! I've read all the posts. And I'm amaized and sad. CN got rid of that many SD45s in that short amount of time. All those locomotives had alot of stories behind them, most came from BN and ATSF, some may have been from GN of Frisco(Highly dought it). But one Locomotive I was dearly close to, is gone. It looks like it was gone way before you guys started posting. 7528 or to you BN fans 6528. She was the first locomotive I noticed when I got into model railroading. She's got alot of stories behind here, Came from BN, hit a gravel truck in Chicago, got a UP nose, roamed the rails a little while, got upgraded, then killed by CN. I'll miss her.(some of you may have read this on the other WC roster thread in the Trains mag fourm.)

Umm Burlington Northern WAS GN, CB&Q, NP and Frisco..................

You know what? That post was a while ago. And back then I didn't know as much as I did about the WC. Even though the post was only a couple months old, I have come a far way. So cut me some slack. I ain't going and changing all my older posts.

  • Frisco engines made it to the WC.

WC 6497 was the SLSF 911

WC 7498 was the SLSF 929

WC 7499 was the SLSF 942

WC 7638 was the SLSF 909

And CB&Q was also present in the WC 7496.

  • Most of you probably already have heard this news already, but for those of you who haven't, it is VERY good news for anyone who likes the WC. WC SD45 7525 is now at the Illinois Railway Museum and can be viewed at www.irm.org on their mainline webcam. The main reason for this is that it was the last SD45 to operate on CN, and the museum requested this engine. It WILL be staying in WC paint perminantly and will be operating next year on IRM's passenger trains. With Duluth planning on repainting WC 7495 in NP paint this could very well someday be the last WC SD45 operating. As many of you have recalled, I posted several times in this topic I hope that IRM will get one, and they did just that! It is good to know that there will be at least one WC painted SD45. The most amazing part of this story is that CN did not strip 7525 of ANY parts. So, two WC SD45s, 7495 and 7525, have been preserved, and you never know, maybe more will also, and we should all be thankful for that.

  • we get it. you dont need to post it so often, man. we're all excited.

wow so many people calling these SD45s female..... they're big. strong, and powerful units. sounds more like they're male if you ask me. or genderless as i refer to most motive power. unless i talk to one of those weirdos who calls them female. then i call them male just to show how stupid it sounds either way

cmon, guys. locomotives are genderless machinery. they're all "it"s
