Rotary Snowplow - Can anyone identify?

  • Found this photo with some stuff that belonged to my parents. Judging by dates on other photos found with this, I believe it was taken around 1936. Can anyone identify it? Thanks in advance!

  • Strictly an opinion but it looks like a builders photo to me since there are no markings evident.
  • By enlarging the photo, there appears to be some lettering above the headlight, numbers on the side of the plow body near the back, and letters on the side of the tender, but they can't be made out clearly.

What's strange is that it has a trailing tender but no visible smoke stack if it was coal fired, or even oil fired.

  • CP 400811 --Possibly, unusual external "ribs" and locomotive cab on far end. Leslie rotary, but mounted on what?

  • There'a a picture of an HO scale model of this exact same snow plow in a 1965 book we have at our club.  The model in the book is decorated for the Northern Pacific Railroad, but I don't recall who made the model.

  • If you get bored, Goggle canadian pacific heavy rotary snow plow. Plenty of images.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
