This is the weekend thread where modelers can show their completed models, work under construction and layout pictures new and old.

Let's have a lot of participation this weekend!

Good morning from foggy and cool Northeast Ohio!

This week I managed to complete a couple of cars.

First, a McKeen/Front Range 50' RBL where I removed the cast on underframe and replaced it with a Details West one, along with Moloco Draft Gear Boxes and Uncoupling levers and A-Line Sill Steps, painted with Scalecoat II Armour Yellow, Silver and Boxcar Red paints and lettered with Mask Island (Now Highball Graphics) decals. These cars were used in handling finished products out of the Campbell Soup plant in Napoleon, OH as evidenced by the 1090 code above the car number.

Next an Athearn 60' PS Boxcar kit, painted with Scalecoat II Armour Yellow and Silver paints and lettered with a really old Walther's decal. As evidenced by the 155 code the car was in auto parts service for Ford and the car was to be returned to the Warren, MI plant for reloading.

Here is a pair of DT&I Athearn GP40-2's with a train full of various RBL and XLI boxcars that were assigned to the Campbell's Soup Plant heading for Malinta, OH to be transported up the branch to the plant in Napoleon, OH.

Thanks for looking!

Rick, Thanks for starting the WPF and rolling out those nice Campbells Soup hauling double plug door boxcars.

Digging into the archives once again with Eric White's From the Editor; "Why we weather our models" on my mind.  I heartily agree that not only do we weather our models in search of realism and to creatively add a unique part of ourselves to them, but also as an ehnancement to the plausibility of our photos.

Thanks to all the contributors and viewers.  Have a good weekend. Regards, Peter

Thanks for opening, Rick. Nice work and history on the box cars.

Peter, your work proves your point!

For me, the chip trucks are waiting for some stuff I ordered for them, so the 4-4-0 steps back into the light; I spent a few hours drilling, milling and filing up some new connecting rods for the lengthened wheelbase:

Starting with 1/4 x .025 brass flatbar, first the holes were drilled in what quicky proved to be too short of rod beginnings, but they did prove that the drill spacing was correct. Also in the picture are the new longer rods, and the short original "General" ones.

Installed, and with worm gear removed, rolling smoothly with no apparent binding. Now I can move on to powering the model.

Hello everyone. Rick, nice details on these cars. I guess you like your cars pristine!

Peter, your weathering effects are just amazing.

Dan, great job on these siderods. That loco project is really coming along!

Pike-62, it's always nice to see your beer cars, although I am trying to cut down on the real stuff Smile.

Here's a shot of a two-footer section of the layout:

Simon,

Your right all my cars are pristine, I do not like weathering other than some dull coat to remove the shine of the paint and hide the decals.  99% of weathering is overdone, and in the 50-70's most railroads cared for their rolling stock and wanted it to look good. It wasn't until the bean counters took over railroads that maintenance went out the door.
