Thanks for the replies my question what is better Atlas or Bachmann ATSF B23-, ATSF B40WB. I found 2 on ebay witch one is easier to work on to fix.Such as gears, & etc.
I have one of the Atlas locomotives (in Southern Railway) and think it's a fine piece of construction. Keep in mind that Atlas had several 'quality levels' (mine was 'gold') and you should be aware of the differences when looking at used locomotives.
In my opinion, any Atlas locomotive is likely to be head and shoulders better quality than its Bachmann counterpart. But that's just my opinion.
All versions of the Atlas B23 will be better than the Bachmann model. However, the Bachmann model is easier to afford and is typically a smooth runner. It's unusual for the motors to freeze, so you might have just gotten a bad one the last time.

Hello Overmod I was wonder if you can pst some photos of your Atlas B23-7 for me with the shell off, And the trucks cover so I can see what it looks like.If you can do that for me please. If it is not tooo much trouble for you is it easy to take apart to clean an fix the B23-7?
You can go to the Atlas web site, and download the parts diagrams for the Gold B23-7.

Thank you for the photos you posted for.Do you know where I can find a instruction manual for the/Walthers Trainline ATSF B23-7.? The Atlas one I saw was sold,I found a Walthers one. I have not yet got this enine I am saving up enough $$,For it any wa thanks for all the replies.
I'm pretty sure the Walthers Trainline model is an 8-40B instead of the B23-7, so that'll be quite a bit larger and more modern. The Trainline models are good runners though, and were popular for a long time for being cheap and reliable. I think the only ones still in production at this point are the GP9M, which uses the old oversized Cox shell from the 60's/70's, and the better scaled GP15-1.
My mistake sorry I meant the Dash-8 40B,Not the B23-7 I id find a few of B23-'7"s way to much $$ for me.
I have a Bachman Spectrum B40-8 (GE's way of naming them) but not a Walthers.
HO Seeker has a lubrication diagram of the their loco, but no real parts diagram.
Was is it again you wanted to know?
I am wanting to know what one is the easiest to take apart to clean. An fix if needed I am saving,Money to get one of these engines.
Well guess what, I went and dug through my never ending supply of locomotives, many of which are unopened and never ran, and found 4 Trainline dash 8 40b's.
1) One in the Amtrak "Pepsi can" paint scheme.
2) One in the Santa Fe "warbonnet" scheme.
3) One in the BNSF (right after the merger) "fake bonnet" scheme.
4) One in the UP Armour yellow (orange?) paint scheme
These all have the wide cab.
The weight covers the trucks and motor, which would have to be removed to work on anything. Probably a toss up between Atlas and Walthers as far as ease of working on the locos, Atlas is easier for me, because I've worked on more of them, and not sure about Walthers parts being availiable, where I have always been able to find Atlas parts.
No parts diagram came with the Trainlines, only a diagram of where you should lubricate.
I've never ran any of these, and they are all factory DC.
Too bad PM doesn't work in here any more, but give it a try if you want.

All the manufactureers are about the same as for ccess for maintance. I had a B40 as well from trianline and I didnt have any exploded view or anything. But I do remember it was no different on the inside than the Atlas ( the Atlas I showed is a master classic DCC ready. which is all the boards you see. That is styill set up as dc. They all come DCC ready any more.) Parts? I have no idea how good parts avaliablitity is from walthers. Atlas makes a B40 as well. same chassis and drive line as the B23-7..
