Oh, well this is embarrassing. I guess I should put away this hummus and onion dip, it's been out all night.

Embarrassed

Oh. Okay. It was as easy as googling "great northern paint schemes".

Glacier Park is the name of it.

Alright, well let's do something else. How about let's each name one of our favorite livery names. I've heard some that really describe the paint scheme to a tee. The really clever ones are names I never would have thought of but seem obvious once you hear it.

An example is the Northern Pacific "canoe" scheme that the RS-1s wore; black overall with yellow curving up at each end, like a canoe. So I'll start with that one.

Anyone want to see me and raise me?

At the train show Saturday I was vocally appreciating a Great Northern 2-8-0 with the red roof and green boiler. The vendor said yeah, he always loved that "---" scheme. I forget the name he said.

I've seen these colors often on GN steamers -- Bachmann's GN Connie was in that scheme and so is BLI's Paragon, and in fact when I was a kid GN 2-8-0 No. 1256 was parked at the Woodland Park Zoo less than a mile (as the crow flies) from where I sit, and its surviving sister No. 1147 is still sitting in a park in Wenatchee -- but I had never heard the colors refered to by a scheme name. It was a cool name, but unfortunately six hours of shopping and layout-watching knocked it out of my head.

Does anyone know what the scheme was called? Here's a link to a page showing No. 1147: http://www.rgusrail.com/wagn1147.html.
