A roll call would make for an interesting thread. Rich

I always wonder how many read the diner thread but don't participate. Something that my brain picks up on with all threads is the number of views vs the number of replies. The other is the number of posts vs the length of time someone has belonged to the forum. I need to pick up my game and catch up to the rest of you.Laugh

Even though I seldom post, I read the Forums on ~ a daily basis.  I'm not sure if that counts as a "regular" or just an "arm chair regular" for the purpose of counting heads. ???

BigDaddy

The MR forum is free.   The magazine and the videos are the product that people are paying for.  If you add up all the regulars in the forum, it's probably well less than 200.  There are a bunch of newbies who come and go and some old timers that post 3 or 4 times a year.  Business-wise the forum isn't a loss leader, it's just a loss.

I often wonder about that very point. How many "regulars" inhabit the forum? I recognize most of the regulars by their screen names.

Some have been members for years like me, having signed up in 2004. A few even predate me. Some long time members have been regulars for 10 to 15 years now. Others have joined within the last 5 or 6 years, but can be considered regulars at this point. Still others, if only a few, have become regulars within the last 2 or 3 year period.

A roll call would make for an interesting thread.

I have seen that error before.  Last week I clicked on the DCC for Roundhouse and Turntable and all I could see was the title of the thread, no posts visible at all.  I've seen that before, too.

Last time we had a thread like this I made mention of the fact that I belong to a stock market forum that hadn't been updated in 15 years.  Rackspace no longer wanted to host the forum because software used by the forum was antiquated.

So they hired a programmer and the forum was shut down last Friday night to update the software.  It was supposed to be up and running Saturday morning.  It was Tuesday before some people could log in with some but not all browsers.  Symbols like @,+,% cause your post never to appear.  You can no longer add charts or graphs to your posts.  Links to educational videos or the official stock picks don't work.  The programmer either lied to management or had never tackled such a project.

However the point is, the stock forum and website is the product.  Management knew the importance of getting it done right and willing to spend whatever it cost to fix it, but the fix has been a disaster.

Did all that. Still can't reply to my own post

And, please have someone who knows how to actually design a properly working website that doesn't jump around all over the place due to rotating advertisements. Web pages load slowly too. Just when I'm about to click on something it "jumps" and I end clicking on something I don't want!!!

Not sure.  Works ok for me, but this website has had various problems over the years.  What is most annoying to me are all the adds popping up on the right side, the left side and the bottom.  It's the worst I've seen on any website.

I'm trying to respond to a post I made yesterday (Electronics & DCC).

It keeps giving me error "403 Forbidden"

What's up?
