GS4 4-8-4If I bought a dcc American Freedom GS4 and buy a dc Southern pacific could I take the southern pacifics shell and put it on the dcc base?
You bought this engine, and that engine, and whl cares about the road name. Are they from the same manufacturer? Are they of the same model locomotive? Are they of the same age. They do change things around under the hood and sill use the same plastick shells.
If you want to swap the shells, yes this can be done, but it may try your model building skills. If skillful you are not (and you did have to ask) LION would suggest buying a cheap model (purrhaps on eBay) and play with that foist unyil your skills you build up.
As for LION: Him only uses DC, cannot use DCC. Him rus ten trains at once, but poseses not ten heads so the trains of LION are run by the tracks: gaps, resistors, and relays. LOTS of relays. Trains stop at stations and then if signal is clear will proceed to next station. No Throttles or reversing switches. (What *IS* reversing switch... SUBWAY trains of LION cannot go backwards: following train is only 120 seconds behind is leader.
LION sits in aircondition comfort (I wish) in the 242nd Street Tower. Him controls trains in and out of 242nd Street Station. Each train takes about 20 minutes to run the nine mile circuit to South Ferry and back again!

snjroy Yes, there were multiple versions of the Daylight Flyer made by Bachmann. But I'm curious, why buy two locos? It would be a lot cheaper to buy one with DCC, or to install a chip in one of them. Beware, the older models were toy train quality (at best!). Simon

How are your soldering skills? A basic motor and lights decoder is not very expensive, and it's only six wires.
Oh, and
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

If they two locomotives are from the same manufacturer, it should be an easy shell-swap.
Some changes could have been made if one is older than they other. If this is the case, it could be more difficult.
