Greenway products?
Posted by wrench567 on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 9:36 PM

  Hi gang.

I took a decade long absence from the hobby. Now that I am back into it there have been some changes and not all to the better. Some of my best online stores are gone.

I have an 1880s era brass 2-6-0 with wornout drivers. To my horror I have come to realize that Greenway products has since closed up. They were the number one source for steam engine drivers. Where can I find locomotive driver's now?

   Thanks in advance.

        Pete.

Pete,

NWSL would be a good starting point.

My understanding is that the owner of Greenway has been fighting an illness, and we can but wish him the best.  This has happened before and Greenway stopped going to Trainfest in Milwaukee due to his health.  I seem to recall that the website has gone inactive (as it is now) before for this reason but then has been brought back.

Greenway is an example of a model train firm doing what nobody else does in terms of brass replacement supplies and parts, not just wheels but cabs, pilots, smokebox fronts, and the like.

Thanks guys.

NWSL has diesel locomotive wheels but not steam drivers. Precision Scale lists unmachined wheels but I don't have the tooling to finish them. Greenway was my only hope.

I pray for a recovery for the owner. Although I have only bought a few things from them in the past, they have become a valuable asset for us hobbyists who does detail and customization of locomotives and rolling stock. They had the best looking clawfoot markers for us pensy fans. Most of my brass steamers run on their wheels.

Hopefully with the owners health not being good, the discussion has been had on his end what to do to keep the business going after he is unable to. Just as someone stepped up to keep NWSL going, the same hopefully will happen with Greenway.  They did supply things that nobody else did for the brass hobbiest looking to upgrade or repair models.  Their prices on second hand brass models was excellent as well.    Mike

One of my favorites lately has been Markits/Romford: http://www.markits.com/

Their wheels are mostly UK based, but I think they also have some drive wheels in their catalogue that look "close enough" to the wheels on American steam engines.  They also have a square-end axle design so the quartering is always perfect.  Something to keep in mind though, the wheels, axles and counterweights are all ordered separate, and the cost can add up pretty quick (especially since they're priced in British pounds).

Great news! They offered some hard-to-find items.
