Good morning, everyone.

We are also having Indian Summer here.  On Monday the 26th we had a high of 28°, and today's high will be 66°.

Sounds better than what I'm facing for a high of 50 today John.

Brace yourself as I am tightening up my seatbelt right now in my truck to drive down there to experience your 66 with ya!   So tell me, do I take Route 66 to get down there? Wink

And I'm bummed Sean Connery died  My favorite Scottish actor  As we get older our Rock and Movie Stars keep dying and I don't like it a bitSad

But on a more positive note, everybody's warming up here for the next few days.  The second wave of Indian SummerYesBow

Get out there and enjoy it while you still can!   Usually you don't get a Third Wave!

Sean Connery, my favorite Bond, died.

A fun movie was "From Russia With Love", with the fight in the sleeping compartment on the Orient Express.

Before the fight, the dining car:

The county here came by with their tree wacker and mowed down trees along the road

I gotcha,  you mean like this

The conductor in Osceola Wisconsin that day was talking to me about the big machine while we were taking our scenic train ride.

He said it's a big whip train car that swings around this big whip and hacks the trees down along the tracks which is something I would really want to see someday but just not be in the way of it!

Anyone have a picture of that one they could post here?  It's a shame living that thing in description from conversation.

Here's a picture of that man.  The Conductor I really enjoyed talking to that day.

good morning all from the Southern Command, it is 37F this morning in North Mississippi.

I had to turn on the fireplace last night.

we are going to partake in some more blues music today in Calrksdale MS.

All outside venues. It is supoosed to warm up today.

The county here came by with their tree wacker and mowed down trees along the road out front of the Southern Command, I guess that was ok with me they did not ask.

Last time I was here the power comapny showed up and installed fiber optic internet which I had not ordered. My guess is some one else is asking "where is my internet?" I don't get to use it as I don't have their modem , but I thought it was funny that they had installed it to the house ( no I did not get billed for it. )

Went uptown to the Longhorn and had a RARE RIB EYE. Gave the waitress a $5 tip. WTH she doesnt have enough customers to make it otterwise.

Good morning, everyone.

We are also having Indian Summer here.  On Monday the 26th we had a high of 28°, and today's high will be 66°.

Our local school sells frozen food products for a fundraiser, and I bought a pizza from a neighbor kid.  Last night I made the pizza.  After one slice, I began to sweat, and I should have stopped right there, but I ate two more pieces.  By that time, my face was red, I was soaked in sweat, and I felt like I had swallowed some live burning embers.

I still don't feel good this morning.  Normally, spicy foods don't bother me, but whatever kind of sausage and peppers that pizza had really set me off.  All I want for breakfast this morning is coffee.

The full moon was beautiful this morning for my trail walk.  Otherwise, my morning walks are very dark.

I have no preference for the diner's November location.  I watched the Mighty Trains episode of Australia's "Indian Pacific" train.  Nice program.  I'd be in favor of Australia, but I'll gladly eat at the diner no matter where we park.

Have a good day, everyone.

Howdy ....

I heard Kevin is having computer issues, and that is why he is not here.

We need somebody to start November Diner. I do not know where we are going.

Bear .... That is a hearty breakfast, thanks.

Dave .... That is an impressive group of old HO freight cars.

While we are still in Michigan, here is a GTW commuter train as it looked in the 1970's and 1980's. I worked in downtown Detroit then, and I rode the train regularly. This station, Royal Oak, is where I boarded the train.

Here is the front end of the GTW employee Santa Claus train. THe lead locomoitve was GTW's bicentenial GP38. Two of the four passenger cars were inside the building at the time. Families could wait in line inside the building for their turn to see Santa Claus. The building is a car repair shop in Pontiac, MI.

Below are two more photos of the Bicentenial locomotive I took in downtown Detroit. You can see the Detroit Renaisance Center under construction.

I ended up ripping up a portion of the layout to put in a new baseboard since my foam was floating, and a six axle loco couldn't go around a 30" curve... the front wheel was rising in the air and then dragging the whole truck off.   Anyone have any advice?

Hi Jimmy.  Not sure if you are having the same challenge  I had some time back.

My trains would not run properly on foam. Jumping the rails etc.  and not always at the same place.  I took the track up and did away with the foam.  I dot use anything under the track now.  Track is fastened direct to the board.    Drastic I know, but trains are running smoothly again.

Yes

Leveling the more dramatic change in the foam from floating.

And then two bananas to balance your potassium level, some zinc and magnesium should help the situationSmile, Wink & Grin

As always I wish you some good modeling Jimmy and I am very confident you will figure it out based on the beautiful pictures you posted of your past modeling history hereWink

Good Evening,

TF, nice collection of DP&W engines. I have a RS 11 in green. It is an Alas model and is the smoothest running N scale engine I have. I put a TCS decoder in it.  Are you DC or DCC?

Evening.

DC Charlie and thanks for the compliment.  I'm old school with blocks.   Because I'm a BlockheadLaugh

Although I have some very expensive locomotives that are hybrid DCC/DC that's supposed to have a sensor built-in and knows what track they are running on and switch to whatever Drive they sense.

Who knows,  maybe I'll switch my system someday when I'm older and bored when I finally completely understand itLaughWhistling

P.S.  I would like to see that green RS 11 of yours first hand if you wish to post it!Stick out tongueWink

Hi gang!

Any more suggestions on where to move the Diner to in November? We had briefly mentioned Australia or South Africa, but if you would rather stay in North America that's fine too. Don't be shy!

On another topic, I have had some luck on eBay recently that I would like to share with you. I had stopped buying freight cars for a long time because I had more than enough rolling stock to populate my railroad, but that didn't stop me from looking. I shouldn't have looked! You can probably guess that I am into older models.

Here is what I have found recently:

- One Athearn black box Canadian Pacific 'Spans the World' brass and wood 40' box car. It is in good condition but the paint has been messed up. I hope that I can clean up the paint job without destroying the printing.

- Three older Walthers stock car kits in perfect condition, two in Canadian Pacific and and one Canadian National. The CN kit was a mistake but I will run it anyhow just to see if anyone notices.

- One old Roundhouse outside braced CP metal box car in excellent condition.

- One Globe Canadian Pacific brass and wood box car with factory painted sides, but the roof and doors are unpainted. It is in great condition.

- One Canadian Pacific converted box car decaled as a "Despatch" car. 'Despatch' is an original British spelling for 'Dispatch". It has seven windows on either side and a man door installed where the sliding door would be. There is no indication of who made it but I think that it is older. I'll have to fix up the 'Canadian Pacific Despatch' decals.

- One Atlas Trainman Canadian Pacific 40' box car kit in the 'Spans the World' livery. It looks to be nicely detailed and the printing is crisp. I'm not sure how old it is.

- A six pack of Walthers Canadian Pacific reefers new in the box. I'm going to have an icing platform on the layout and I have lots of reefers, but none with CP livery.

- Finally, an older Walthers cast metal unpainted scale test car. I have been looking for a scale test car at a reasonable price for years and I finally found one.

Part of the reason for buying all of the Canadian Pacific 'Spans the World' box cars is that they will give me different road numbers. I have lots of Athearn BB 'Spans the World' box cars, but at least nine of them have the same number. Renumbering them is obviously an option, but the print quality varies from car to car. Some are bright but others are quite faint, so matching the rest of the printing with an equally bright (or faint) renumbering decal would be tedious.

Thanks for letting me share my recent acquisitions! Show me yours!

Cheers!!

Dave

Edit:

Top of the page! Bar tab is on me!! Choose your favourite poison!!DrinksBeer

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and i a Beer and Dirk and Robbie a dog treat.

Charile My daughters first dog she bought on her own was a Westie. Good dogs and she still misses her.

Nice weather for a change. 53 degrees outside, lots of sun and wind was only 3 MPH. Took Sue and Dirk to the park and both of them enjoyed them selfs.

Bought the kids next door some Halloween candy. There folks are not frendily but we are on speaking terms. Wife did not want to buy them any candy because there parents are not frendily. It was my idea to do it, and maybe they might become frendily. Guess who took the candy over too them? Yep, my wife who got all of the thanks? Whistling

Well my feet and Dirk's paws are better so I walked him a 1/3 rd of a mile today. Just don't want to get him a of the habit of me having to walk him around the block to do #2 again.

Later Ken and Dirk say's me likes walks daddy, woof, woof.

Yep!

Get on that bike and ride Mr B.

You won't believe how good you feel after your lungs open up after heavy breathing and the cardiovascular thing starts kicking in.

And how well you sleep that nightYes

I need to start doing that again more than just occasionally now too!

I see these guys around here with their big tires with studs in them on their bikes riding all winter.  I'm probably right in thinking that they look rarher expensive but I'm curious looking into one of those.

I'll just give it a day after a snowfall and let them young bucks pack down the trail before I take my bike outLaugh

Seriously though!  Just saying

I need to start riding my bike in my cool weather gear again.  I have everything, except I can't find my gloves, but I have others and they're readily available anyway.

I'm older.  I haven't been on my road bike in years, only the mountain bike, so the cold weather clothes which are designed to reduce wind chill more than anything else may leave something to be desired.  Bt, we'll see.  With the summer traffic down, this may be the best time for biking on the roads.

You got that straight Ray! I don't know about the weather up where you're at but by tomorrow it will be 50° and by Wednesday it will be 60.

I'll take your weather rather than mine for the next few days....  Here in the Finger Lakes tonight will be down to 26°F but a high of 46° tomorrow...  This will be the big killing frost that will likely mean that the leaves on the Maple next door which always seem to stay on the tree until everything else is bare may go whoosh!  The tree will lose all it's leaves in an hour or so of time once it starts.  Neat to see, actually.  It always seems to happen within a few days of All Hallows Eve every year.

I am sitting here at my computer waiting for the final instructions and a bit of info to finish our NMRA Division newletter.  Once I get that I can have the first draft out to the Superintendent and the Webmaster to check and ask for changes or corrections.  By Sunday I hope to have it ready to publish.

Stay safe and well out there.  There is still some nasty stuff going around, at least here.  Second wave in progress that is worse than the first.  We were not badly hit with the first wave as we were careful around these parts......

Nah...  There will still be a lot of days where I will only use a light jacket.  Today was the first time to put on the winter coat since mid March......  I can hack a light jacket if it is in the mid 40's.  Today was 38° for the high and windy with cloud cover most of the time.....  I only wore my light jacket to put air in the tires on the Tesla but a bit chilly for running....
