C&O is another railroad operating in Kentucky with trains to and from Cincinnati. Passenger trains were The George Washington and the FFV. ..From Cincinnati, they crossed over the Ohio River to Covington, KY, and then eastward to Ashland KY. They continued eastward through WV and VA to Washington DC. The second train is listed as FFV in the timetable, but it is short for Fast Flying Virginian.

My wife just came back home from the Dollar Tree where I guess she strolled down the toy aisle and picked up some plastic dinosaurs, then surprised me.
The LI-ION batteries are amazing, we have some Medical computer carts that some have LI_ION and some have SLA( Sealed Lead Acid) and I have had one LI-ION cart go bad after 4 years and several SLA after only a year. So the LI-Ions are holding up waaay better.
howmus The drivetrain is an electric Motor about the size of a watermellon that sits between the rear wheels (at least on the one I will be getting. I don't know about the all wheel drive ones). You can see what it looks like here:

He loves it.

The wheel covers supposedly reduce the wind drag on the car by, I think, 4%. There is another option for the wheels and the hubcaps can just be removed as well and the car looks like some of the other cars you see on the road. Rain held off this afternoon so we got in and set up whilst staying dry (it was hot though but I'm not complaining. Tomorrow is the extra test day then practice and qualifying Friday.
Nice car Ray. I do find the wheels offputting but... Is the model 3 the one with motors in each wheel or does it use a drive train? I like the idea of having all the power generation in one place instead of all the fuel vapors/spillage/emmission etc. I will look forward to hearing how the real world experience is.

Ah.... The batteries tend to outlast the car... In fact one of the technology questions my son (The advisor on Electric Storage to the PM of the UK) is part of is to find ways to reuse the still usable Li-on Batteries after the car itself is kaput! There are some new technologies on the verge of being ready to use that are even better, BTW. I have been driving the Volt mostly on Battery for well over 2 years now. I have seen no degradation of Battery range so far. On occasion a cell of the battery pack can go bad, but that is usually covered by warrenty. Your range may vary...... Oh and the Li-on batteries are something like 98% recyclable. BTW, lithium is not mined in big, dirty, open pit mines like you may have seen some people say (there was a stupid horror article going around the web a few years back), it can be found and extracted from seawater......

It sure is! Especially since gas usage will be...... Ah, ZERO! The mpge (miles per gallon equivilent) is rated at 141. That is the distance a gasoline powered car would have to go on a gallon of gasoline to be as efficient. Not bad at all. Most of the electric for mine will be generated on the roof of my house.... (well I can say that as all my electric can be said to be either solar or wind power as I put the same amount that I pull off the grid onto the grid using wind and solar).

Should be a neat little car. Plenty of room for what I need to put in it and pretty decent specs. The Model 3 with the basic 2 wheel drive can do 0 to 60mph in 5 seconds. The Volt I have now? Try maybe in 9 secs with both the Electric and the Gas engine going flat out.... The Volt has a top speed of 98mph (limited by the computer), the Tesla Model 3 is a little over 140mph (no I don't think I will try that myself...). I do think it should be fun to drive. It ain't the Roadster, but.....

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
I sure am getting ready to slowly get back into things. I'm thankful my knee is starting to feel a lot better the last few days. This boredom of being at home to long is starting to drive me a little nuts.
I'm thinking of taking on some small easy jobs soon and see how it goes. The PRP treatment must be working. Judy has told me not to jump the gun too soon but I don't see how some small handyman type jobs could hurt.
I have some ceiling repairs and a few light fixtures to install in the condo complex here. I think that would be a good way to start and see how it goes.
I'm supposed to wait till after my follow-up appointment but I don't know if I can sit around for another week.

Back again. I have the insurance cards (temporary type) and talked to the CU about wiring the payment to the car company... Should be very doable. Getting things done little by little. Will end up driving to Mt. Kisco, NY (Westchester County just North of the Rotten Apple) to pick up the car. That way I will get some important personal training on how to operate and know the car a bit better.

One of the salesmen over at the GM dealership where I bought the Volt wanted to know how I would get the oil changed..... Duh! "Well, what if you need a wheel bearing changed!!??!!" I guess their cars must have problems I haven't seen one go on anything since I changed out the front wheel bearing on a 1926 4 ton axle Chevy Truck back when I was about 10... Gotta love the Bull they try to give you.

Belated Happy Birthday Ken. I'm sitting in the hotel in Sebring waiting to go out to the track to set up awnings in the rain. Fun times walking on the wet trailer roofs. Went for an airboat ride yesterday - saw a bunch of gators a water moccasin and a ton of birds. Also a pair of matching yellow Cesnnas doing the float plane equivalent of touch and gos. Ciao, J.R.
Some of you were talking about New Orleans. Before Amtrak there were several trains passing through Kentucky going to New Orleans.
Louisville and Nashville had two daily trains from Cincinnati to New Orleans named the Humming Bird and the Pan American. They ran on L&N from Cincinnati and stopped in Louisville KY, Bowling Green KY, Nashville TN, Birmingham AL, Montgomery AL, Mobile AL, and Gulfport MS on their way to New Orleans.
