On-line railroad outlets
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, May 11, 2002 8:37 PM
Hey,

Can anyone recommend a good on-line HO-scale sales outlet? I am looking for most of the brand names and if at all possible a 20-30% discount off Walthers catalog prices on most rolling stock, locomotives, structures, and scenery.

I live in South Central, Missouri...so if ANYONE has a good discount source, please let me know.

Thanks so much!

My experiance with Hobby Circle was not as good - don't expect ANY communications with the seller! They didn't answer repeated phone calls (they have voice mail, but no one returned my calls), nor did they answer e-mail.

You will get what you initally order, and at a reasonable price - but you can never change or cancel any order!

Why not www.trainworld.com? They also advertise in MR and have an order # only, 1-800-541-7010

Actually, the dealer I've had the best luck with is M.B. Klein. They advertise in MR, but also sell on e-Bay as "Modeltrainstuff" - and soon, they will have a separate web site:

http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/

Good deals, quality service from an established model railroad dealer! AND you can call and talk to them (unlike Hobby Circle)!

I've got several locos through them (mostly thru e-Bay bid). All have been good runners!

PS why can't THIS web site fix the missing name/identity problem? I can see my "name" on this post, but it never shows up on the posted post!

Thanks so much for all the help, Guys! It is well-appreciated!!

My guy that I deal with, who give me 20-25% off Walthers and most of the other namebrands, sorta went all un-customer service-like on me. And I am trying to find someone to replace him. Anything out of the state of Missouri would be helpful-wouldnt have to pay state taxes then. I will check-out the internet sites.

As for the name problem, I noticed that too. Mine never shows up. Perhaps you might try contacting the webmaster of this site or Kalmbach.com on the problem. Thanks again.

I have used them all and the best one for my money is wwww.1stplacehobbies.com. They ship anything in the Walthers catalog at 20-30% off. Service is unbelievable. I have ordered online on a Tuesday and had my order on Thursday when I got home. When I need to talk to a real person, Joe is always there to help. I have also ordered from MB Klein with good results but they as yet are not on the web.

Hi Terry,

What state is 1stplacehobbies.com in? As long as they are NOT in MO, then I will definately consider them. I checked out the other places, and I was NOT happy with the format of trainworld.com... very very hard to follow. I liked the ahobbies site though. Thanks Ed.

1st Place Hobbies is in Indiana. Visit their web site to get an idea of how easy it is. They also offer a secure ordering system. I have used them numerous times this year already and they have not failed me once. What I like most I guess is the opportunity to order the small stuff that others don't want to mess with. Let me know how it works out for you.

I've had very good luck dealing with these guys in the past. I get very good response from inquiries by email and they usually ship available items within a day or two. They have a pretty good selection as well. The name is Davis Electronics located in SW Ohio and can be found here: http://www.davistrains.com/

Good luck hope this helps,

John
