Thanks, Steven O. - that´s soul food for me today. I sure need it!

Guys - only 44 days until Christmas - time to think about the presents for your loved ones, so get your credit card out and go for it! I´ll have it easy this year, just like the in the past years, there won´t be any presents for us, but I may donate some of my railroad stuff to someone in need.

Edit: I got top of the page, so the cookies to go with Steven´s hot chocolate are on me!

Happy times!

Ulrich (aka The Tin Man)

The Diner might be in Georgia this month, but if you're stuck in a snowy clime like I am, Chloe and Zoe are serving up hot cocoa to warm your bones. Enjoy!

.

I'll take one too Steve-O, thank you.

.

The diner might be in Georgia, but it was 39 degrees this morning, and supposed to get down to 25 degrees tonight in Atlanta, with precipitation predicted..

.

I need to keep warm!

.

My wife's family has a great rule for Christmas prsents. They never give any presents to adults. It is amazing how much more fun that makes the holiday, and we all have more fun.

Happy birthday, Jimmy! Happy B-Day

The Diner might be in Georgia this month, but if you're stuck in a snowy clime like I am, Chloe and Zoe are serving up hot cocoa to warm your bones. Enjoy!

We are getting almost a foot of snow in the next couple days, but I am in shorts and loading pellets for the pellet stove into the basement.

Aaaaaarrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Ahem.  Sorry!  My son and I just spent almost 3 hours watching the feed online from the NYC Veteran's Day Parade because my Granddaughter (a seventh grader) is playing piccollo in the Waterloo, NY High School Band marching in the parade.  Most of the parade was just background for interviews with "important" people who I could care less about listening too (they all had basically the same thing to say.....).  Lots of ads for this and that so we got only bits and pieces of the parade.  FINALLY!!!!  We see the Waterloo, NY High School Band just approaching the Main Stand!!!   YES!!!!  .......They, break for 3 or 4 minutes of commercials....  Duh!

We got to see just part of the front row (Flutes) before they went to commercial, no piccolos.  When they come back there was another 6 or so seconds of the band as they had just passed the stand.  No granddaughter on camera!  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!  This would have been something to have as a great memory in my old mind.  Bummer!  I believe only six 7th. graders made the High School marching band to fill out positions for the parade.  She had only had the piccollo for two weeks before she auditioned (She is a flute player) so we were big time proud of her.

Not a happy camper, this old grandfather isn't happy!  Granddaughter will be getting on the bus for the ride home probably in a few minutes and should arrive back in Waterloo around 10PM.

Would have been nice to at least get a quick view of her in the band......  We could have jumped up and down and screamed "YES!!!!"  Oh well, I'm still very, very proud of her.  She is turning into a wonderful, sweet young lady!

This would have been something to have as a great memory in my old mind.

.

When I was in 5th grade, in 1978, my school's band was selected to perform in Liberty Square in Walt Disney World. My Grandmother had a winter condominium in Orlando, and she came out to film (on 8mm) the event.

.

When she had the film developed, she found out there was a light leak in her camera, and the film was all ruined.

.

There is no record of my being there performing in Walt Disney World. I played the flute in elementary school.

This was the 100th Veterans Day Parade. The odds are pretty good that someone somewhere recorded the entire parade and will upload it to YouTube. Regular, everyday private recordings; not the official network giants' broadcasts.

But even the network tapings will probably be uploaded to their websites. I watch a lot of yesterday's news from the myriad alphabet channels on YouTube. The various networks have different times for commercials and talking heads and whatnot, and maybe the marching band squeezed between the noise and got shown live on air. Or maybe one of their website shows the entire raw footage of the parade with no commercials or commentary.

The point is: don't give up yet. You might be able to find a segment showing your granddaughter's band. Then you can download it and clip it to the few minutes that are of interest to you.

Good luck.

Yep!!!  One of the parents that went got a decent video of the band as they passed the reviewing stand....  She was on the end of the second row of the band!  All is well with the world, and Grandpa is happy!  The clip was uploaded to U-Bloob.  Only problem is I don't use the site.  I did join a few years back and had a bad experience there and decided to end my involvement with it.  My DiL is going to see if the parent that uploaded it has it on her phone and can send it to her.

Had dinner tonight out at my son's house and watched the idiot box for a couple hours.

Thanks Robert!

I Googled U-Bloob and nothing came up. Are they still in existence?

Just curious.

I've never had any issues with YouTube but maybe I've just been lucky? I don't have any business relationship with Facebook either but sometimes someone posts photos or other links to Facebook and I simply click the "Not Now" option when their pop-up pops up.

Likewise, you can watch a YouTube video without any kind of signup, log-in or sharing personal information. Still, if you prefer to boycott the whole site that is an option, too.

Really, there are SO many video sharing sites out there I thought there may have been one that spoofed YouTube. Had me fooled.

Congratulations on your granddaughter's appearance in the parade Yes. Life is measured by little moments of joy like that Smile

Too bad the piccolo players had to play second fiddle to the clarinetists Whistling

Cheers, Ed

 Eveing Diners

Flo, I will take a space heater and give the gang and I a Beer please and give Dirk his Buffalo Treat.

I was stunned today, winter hit with a vengeance. Wether guss'ers called it right this time. Besides being cold we got around 3" of snow. Temp is 17 degrees F right now and a 17 MPH wind. Makes for a cold Dirk Pip walk after work! Indifferent Dirk sure likes the snow! Was using his nose as a snow plow! Very funny to watch while I was freezing some body parts off.

When I got to work it was Nasty Outside! I was surprised I was sort of busy! While I only had 4 customers most of them where there for sometime. That and the fact the Nancy and Jerry the Dunce paper work was mind bending! Bang Head

I promise when I get use to using the new computer I will get some photos of Dirk Pip posted.

Ray My self I rather watch U-Tube than normal TV. I can always find something I want to watch.

Thank goodness I was able to fix the Ventless Gas Heater my self!

Hey, Ken. Just to be safe, do you have a CO detector in the garage? It is amazing how quickly you can get overcome with odorless, lethal gas.

Not implying there's anything wrong with your fix but sometimes these things have defects that go unnoticed. I used to do repair work and found more than one gas flue plugged up. Is yours "ventless"? Those can be even worse.

Last light we went out to eat at the Foodie Feed Store in College Park, Georgia.

.

On the way there we saw this train going by. I could not get out in time to get the locomotive in the shot, but it is proof there are trains operating in Georgia.

.

.

There are so many of the best restaurants I know of in the Atlanta area. Georgia truly has a magnifcent collection of local restaurants.

Yesterday was Verterans Day, and the new Midway movie just opened. I found a group wargaming Midway. Here is my remaining group of American bombers sinking a Japanese carrier.

Morning Gang!

Here in Ohio its begining to look a lot like Christmas, yes,we had our first snow fall of the year. Days like today I 'm happy to be retired and can stay inside where its nice and warm.

Anyway, this snow fall got me to thinking back to '62 when I bought my  Revell sand and pump house and the elevated fuel tank from Hall's Hobby Shop. I saved up my lunch money and allowence to buy these kits. So,it snowed the night before and as a result Columbus City schools was closed due to the snow that alone was a rarity.

So,I decided to make the trip to Halls and buy those kits.. In my youthful mind I decided it wasn't all that cold so,I will walk and I did. Needless to say I when I return home I was just about frozen..You see on the return trip the snow resume peppering down and the wind picked up and had a cold bite to it. Litttle did I know I was walking home in the blizzard of 1962.

Have a good day.

I've never had any issues with YouTube but maybe I've just been lucky? I don't have any business relationship with Facebook either but sometimes someone posts photos or other links to Facebook and I simply click the "Not Now" option when their pop-up pops up.

Well...  Duh!  My brain wasn't working right last night, I guess.  The clip wasn't posted on u-bloob, er You Tube but rather Space Crook, er Space Book, I mean, Face Crook...  Hmmm....  Well I think you know the place.  THAT is the one I have had major issues with.  I backed out of there after some former students found me.....  I really didn't need to know the details of their, ah....  Life.  I'll leave it there.

Not a real fan of most of those types of sites but use imgur to post photos here and do watch occasionally train videos on You Tube.

There are a lot of little white things falling out of the sky here in the Finger Lakes this morning.  Partly Cloudy I think they call it....  City has already filled the end of my driveway with about 10 inches of wet sloppy "partly cloudy" this morning, so after I have breakfast and shower, I will head out and play with the EGO Snowblower for the first time ths season....  "Oh Joy, Oh Rapture".

Good morning.  I'll have eggs, bacon, and coffee.  Just like I do six days a week.

I'm driving over to a town about 50 miles away today for a visit.  While there, I will also visit a small hobby shop.  They are an "all hobbies" shop, so the trains are limited to just one aisle.  It's better than nothing.

Kevin, even though my in-laws lived in Atlanta, I only remember one eating place -- The Varsity.  I can't say the hot dogs were any better than anywhere else, but the atmosphere and the workers made it special.  It was actually a fun place to go.

Also, Kevin, I was at Disney World in 1978 for my honeymoon.  We were there for Thanksgiving -- ate turkey in Cinderella's Castle upstairs.  I don't think that restaurant is still there.

We spent the week there, before Epcot or any of the other attractions were built -- just the Magic Kingdom.  We loved it.  That was back when you bought A through E tickets.  If I remember, the E tickets were the best, and we always ended up the day with no E tickets and a pocketful of A tickets.

Have a good day, everyone.

I go to The Varsity by Georgia Tech about once per year. My wife will not eat there. The food is what I imagine classic drive-in food fare to be like, and the workers are all energeric and completely fun. Not great food, but a great place to go.

Disney World in the late 1970s was great! I still ove going there. I spend more time in the resort areas than the parks now. I seem to have lived my life and grown up around that park.

.

The A-E ticket system was great. It made sure lines were balanced and everybody had to plan their days adventures in the park. I have always lamented the loss of that system.

It's another chilly day here (even colder than yesterday... 9°F this morning, a record). So I've requested Flo put something hot and hearty on the breakfast menu. Let's see what she came up with...

That looks good. Give me a bowl, Flo, with a large OJ and a couple slices of bacon on the side. Crispy, not burnt.

Dad worked at NBC and he got upseet by that too... He said that the parade should be handled as a news event rather than as an entertainment event.

Still if NBC were running an entertainment show whey would not cut out the acts for a commercial.

Parades are more difficult.

Music is pre-recorded so that the wind and traffic noise would be absent from the broadcast.  For time constraints they did not want to cover the school band that was fron stage at the moment but soomed in on the pianist behind them, and ran his music, problem was his hands were not on the keyboard and the director is hollering "PUT HIS HANDS ON THE PIANO!"

I mean as far as the viewrs at home the school band did not even exist, the pinast was front and center, and his hands were off in left field.

So goes the boradcast industry, especially on live events, wardrobe malfunctions not withstanding.

Oh... we were below zero last night... The cat's water had frozen, I had to go out with a railroad spike and chop it free. Has to keep unfrozen water in her dish.

2. For right now I am Hating Windows 10 Home Pro! Cannot find simple things like My Computer or My Documents. Sigh Going to it to work with next week so I have some peace and quite.

Click on the folder icon in the tool tray at the bottom. You will find "My PC" and "Documents" on the Left menu tree.

Just drag them to a clear space on the desk top and they will make a short cut for you.

There are many nice tricks in Win 10.

It is either Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Professional. They are almost identical, except that Professional lacks the codes to run movies, and Home lacks the code to join a Network domain.

Pick up a cheap book on Windows 10 of just google Windows 10 tricks or something like that to see what you can find.

I am back on the old machine tonight. On the newer computer I need to install Open Office so I can transfer some files from Microsoft Word that have my pass words and such. Saturday I will try to get that done.

Open Office is on its way to the trash bin, It nolonger has the sponsors or coders that it once had.

Libre Office is where they all went, and that is where the upgrades and newer work is happening, but even they have seemed to his a wall. I think that 20115 or 2017 was their last release.

Google Docs looks like a good alternative, and Google is well staffed with frequent updates.

Extra strong coffee in a Central Of Georgia Railway mug, please and thank you!

Just saw the Diner was here in my virtual backyard. Keep the wood stove fired up, there is a deep freeze coming tonight.

Hope everyone is doing well.
