I knew that it is only the female mosquitos which bites you, but I´d rather be attractive to the female of my own specie than a mosquito.
We just had a terrific downpour, which made things really bad. It is now steaming hot and I can hardly breathe. No sign that it will cool off a little.

Good morning. I'm trying reverse psychology on myself this morning. Instead of saying how much I hate mowing grass, I'm changing my attitude. I have the privilege this morning of working on my lawn! I enjoy it so much I wish I could cut grass every day.
We used to get "no-see-ums" at the Gulf coast beach. If I remember, insect repellents did not stop them from biting. I think I remember my wife used Johnson's baby lotion and it would stop them.
One of the strange things about living in New Orleans is that even though it was surrounded by swamps, I remember very few mosquitos. Of course, we lived in Mid-City, miles from the nearest swamp.
After I enjoy cutting my grass this morning, I will have time to finish some minor things on my layout!

It sounds like Petra and I have something in common. Mrs. ROR will be eaten alive by mosquitos and I won't have a single bite. I think it is because I have vinegar for blood.
Today's excitement--I am headed in to have my leg x-rayed. Last week I tipped the motorcycle over on my right leg and it doesn't seem to be healing as quick as it should. I went to the doctor yesterday and he ordered up a set of x-rays.

Mosquitos... Let those of us from Florida tell you all about mosquitos.

We have them from sizes so small that screens do not help. Most people call those "No-See-Ems". I have been told the No-See-Em is actually a biting fly and not a mosquito. I don't know, I have never seen one.
Then we have some so large that they should have FAA ID numbers on them.
We also have some that are almost armor plated. Don't swat those when they are on you... just brush them away.

Window screens are standard issue on every operating window east of the Rocky Mountains in Canada. Thanks to changes in our climate the mosquitos are now carrying things like West Nile Virus that were unknown 15 years ago. Apparently other unpleasant things are on the way thanks to the mosquitos as well.
Another option might be insect repellent if you can get it. It won't stop the bugs from flying around you but it will pretty much stop them from biting.

Today, I am going to present my last, but certainly not least icon of British steam locomotives the LNER class A4 Pacific.
The Class A4 is a class of streamlined 4-6-2 steam locomotive designed by Nigel Gresley for the London and North Eastern Railway in 1935. Their streamlined design gave them high-speed capability as well as making them instantly recognisable, and one of the class, 4468 Mallard, holds the world record as the fastest steam locomotive. Thirty-five of the class were built to haul express passenger trains on the East Coast Main Line route from London Kings Cross via York to Newcastle, and later via Newcastle to Edinburgh, Scotland. They remained in service on the East Coast Main Line until the early 1960s when they were replaced by Deltic diesel locomotives. Several A4s saw out their remaining days until 1966 in Scotland, particularly on the Aberdeen - Glasgow express trains, for which they were used to improve the timing from 3.5 to 3 hours.
There are some doubt´s about Mallard´s world record of 126mph, but even at 125mph, Mallard remains the fastest steam locomotive ever in fregular service.

Ken, seriously, you really need to think this plan out. My wife's sister is recovering from a broken hip. She was walking her dog, dog went left while she went right — slipped, fell and broke her hip and has many bruises.
My sister had a similar accident last winter, walking the dog, dog tugged the leash, she hit some ice and fell. Broke both her wrists.
Really, considering your own health and well-being do you think owning a large dog is a good choice? Just offering some unsolicited advice.

Then she said he was 12" at the shoulder, then that went to 15"?
I should never had filled out the on line adoption application for my wife. If I was smart, I would have lied and said I did. Filled out the application last night and today got a E-Mail we have a dog? Really that fast? Last time we had to meet Sparkie, the rescue had to visit our home then leave Sparkie with us.
Don't get me worng, I still love dogs! I just don't think Sue can handle a health, strong dog that is this large. Sparkie had not been able to see and could not walk well for the last year. I know she has forgotten what a health dog is like. Much less a 15% larger dog!

Yesterday's honey-do list was put new checks in the checkbook, which lives in the kitchen drawer that holds everything essential.
Last night my wife asked "where's the checkbook?" I searched all the usual places, including that drawer 3 different times, behind the drawer, two bags of trash, and the recycle can. My office, plus and the desk drawers there, the laundry hamper and the living room.
I was in her hand bag.

I'm thinking about a small pickup. I really miss my old Ford Ranger. I traded it to a neighbor for two loads of firewood. I got the better end of that deal.
I haven't been to Vancouver since 1995. We left on a cruise ship out of there to go to Alaska. That trip involved a ride on the White Pass and Yukon route. We then went north to Dawson City before heading to Fairbanks.
If you ever get the chance to ride the White Pass or see Dawson City, it is worth the effort. The gold rush history is amazing.

Henry ... I'm happy to hear you will be riding on the Rocky Mountaineer. My wife and I rode it in September 2002 from Vancouver to Calgary. It was an unforgettable trip. While in Vancouver, there was plenty of shopping and excellent restaurants. We stayed at a big hotel on the waterfront where the cruise ships dock. .... We took a daytime trip to a large park (Might have been a provincial park) that is popular with tourists. ... We went to Whistler where we stayed two nights, and that was very enjoyable.
I suspect Brent will have suggestions for visting Vancouver.
On the Rocky Mountaineer, we had first class seating in one of the big dome cars. Our seat was at the front of the first dome car in the train, and I took many photos over the roofs of the single level coaches ahead of us.
Today, the train has a different paint scheme than when we rode on it.
The sun is just rising and it´s going to be a hot day again. The nights stay pretty cool, so our apartment doesn´t heat up as much as it did last month.
Today, we take another look at an iconic British steam locomotive, the Great Western Railway´s 6000 class, dubbed "The Kings".
The Great Western Railway (GWR) 6000 Class or King is a class of 4-6-0 steam locomotive designed for express passenger work and introduced in 1927. They were the largest locomotives built by the GWR. The class was named after kings of the United Kingdom and of England, beginning with the then reigning monarch, King George V, and going back through history. They handled the principal GWR expresses on the main line from London to the West of England and on the GWR main line to Birmingham and Wolverhampton, until 1962 when the class was withdrawn.
The Great Werstern Railway was for Britain, what the Pennsylvania Railroad was for the USA - a "standard" railroad, not for the world, but for the British Isles. GWR steam engines had a strong family look, which gave them a rather sporty, but old-fashioned look. The 6000 class was no exemption, although built in 1927, the locomotives had the appearance of a 1890s engine.

We had a fairly heavy rainstorm here this evening which we really needed. I had to pump some water out of the pond. It acts as a catch basin for water on the lower level patio that happens to right against the foundation.
Henry, Brent would be the best one to advise on Vancouver as he lives just up the Fraser Valley from the city. I have been there many times and lived there a year but I was only 16 at the time and the city has changed a lot since then. The usual tourist attractions such as Stanley Park are great but my wife and I like to go the Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver which is on the north shore. You would likely need to rent a car to get there. If you have time a drive up the Sea to Sky Highway is very nice and at the end you wind up in Squamish where they keep a Royal Hudson loco. I'm not sure if it is running now. Seems to me it recently ran out its boiler tube certification, but I could be wrong.
