Good Sunday morning.

I love the pictures with the coloring, Lion.  I may have to try out those photo editing programs you use.

Off to church, then not much else today.  It rained last night, so I can't work in the mud pit that is my backyard.  Gee, that's too bad.  I guess I will have to watch Turner Classic Movies' Doris Day movies today and work on the layout.

I hope everyone else has as rough a day as I will today!

My wife is addicted to chicken.  Cooked chicken breast on the grill last night.  Marinated in orange juice, properly cooked and it was the worst chicken I ever had in my life. It had a little bit of a crunch to it and was rubbery all at the same time.

Huh  No Train Club today.  Drove out to Saint Louis Park and even picked up a French silk pie for the guys.  Not a single car parked in front and the door was shut.  I didn't get a memo and there are no train shows today.  Huh

Oh well I guess Judy and I are having French silk pie tonight.  Yum yum fluffLaugh  I might as well go pick up some donuts tooLaugh

Time to go visit an old Friend.

So I've already gotten busy at my friend Erv's.  We've already been doing some R&R on the Fish House that needs a little attention before next winter.  It's not wxxk, it's Leisure Time.  A work of passion if you will.  Something to do to make the day more enjoyable.

So I was looking at my old house I sold 7 years ago, kitty corner.  It made me a little sick so I discontinued my look.  Scrubs growing everywhere nasty-looking lawn, can't even barely see my beautiful custom sway fence I built anymore.

Going to the happy side of things took me away from that.  Two young beautiful girls were taking turns swinging on the tire swing next door.  I remember reaching over the fence and grabbing a twig off that tree to unplug my caulk gun one day working in the backyard many years ago.

Now that little Sapling Maple I once remembered is so huge it has a tire swing on it.

Where does the time go?

I've been working at our place in the WI. north woods all week, going back down home on Tuesday.  Wife says finish up and get back here!  It's nice to be missed, but then again, there's all kinds of yard work that's going to need doin, and she has never run any of my tractors.

I'm finishing up the rough-in so the plumber can do his thing, next week, hopefully!

Weather has been beautiful up here, warm and sunny.  Almost hot, but I'm not complaining, March- like weather, wet and cold, lasted way too long.

Lion's flower picture, very cool.  We had one of those, called it a trumpet plant.  Very aggressive and will spread everywhere!  It was a constant struggle to keep it contained.

Have a great Sunday afternoon!

Mike.

Good Afternoon All,

Back from the wilds of Pennsylvania and the hillclimb at Hershey Park. Went well though I didn't try too hard being first time there and all. Better to learn the hill and think about if for a time. Weds we leave for CTMP or Mosport for the traditionalists. Not running there but just supporting customers as I want to run at Thompson the week after next.

Hope Garry makes out ok with his surgery. It's always a worry these days even for day surgery with all the crazy infections going around.

Back to chores. Catch Y'all later,   J.R.

You keep having a good time up at the lake, I'll be skipping across my synthetic lake tomorrow.

That's What I call these city lakes.

After you grow up in Northern Minnesota's Chain of Lakes that go all the way up to Hudson Bay Canada.

That's what you call these city lakes.  (puddles)  Laugh anyone in their right mind could not possibly get lost on one of them.  Boring in less than 5 minutesLaugh  I always did prefer a little contrastYes

I suggest you do some high-stepping through Safari grass hunting for wildebeest and get back on top here yourselfLaugh

I could go for a couple bites of rare wildebeest right nowDinner  and a side of Dave's daughter-in-laws chard asparagus

It must be really nice everywhere outside today.  88 down to 60 in one day in Minnesota..... I do believe I'm the only one here..... Nighty night all.  I am going to go watch The Waltons with Judy,  she really likes that birthday box set.

CNCharlie

I too like the sound of piston aircraft engines. There is a flying Lancaster in Canada that has 4 RR Merlins. Quite a sound when it goes over low. It was visiting Winnipeg from its base in Hamilton a couple of years ago. A couple of the old water bombers they use here have radial engines and the sound of them on full power when lifting off a lake is really amazing. They are based in Gimli where I used to have my sailboat and did practice runs in the lake there.

Well time for a cool drink.

I live about 20 minutes from teh Hamilton airport where Canadian Warplane Herritage has their museum/hanger. We had an 8 merlin fly by last summer Warplanes Lancaster a Hurricane and a spitfire from Vintage wings in Gatineau Quebec and a mosquito fighter bomber that was restored and lives in Florida. That was for their father's day fly in ( can't call it  an airshow anymore becuase Hamilton is an international airport now so they do fly pasts in between regular flights as air traffic control will not shut down the airport for a full fledged couple hour long air show.)

 Afternoon Diners!

Flo, give the gang and I Beer please.

While it was pretty much a do nothing day I did accomplish a few things.

Got the live catch trap set up and baited. Came from Harbour Freight for $25.00 and seems pretty well built. ILL is not a realse state for Raccoons so I know what I have to do! Sigh State web site stated There are more Raccoon's now than when the white man first came to the area.

Pretty sure I have Termites or other wood eating insect in the attic. Sigh Haven seen some very fine saw dust laying on the floor going to the family room. At first I thoight it was part of the throw rug backing coming through the carpet. There are a few holes that where drilled into the door way for some reason when I bought the house. Then one night I saw a small flake of saw dust float out of the hole, that is when I knew there was a big problem! Bang Head Pretty sure I could hear the buggers chewing when I listen with nothing running!

Bought some Spectracid Bug Stop with it's own power sparyed. Shoot it up into the hole and a long the wall where I saw saw dust laying on the floor. I will listen tonight and see if I can hear any chewing, I sure hope not! Monday I will go into the attic and spray from up there! Best Part, my wife could not smell it! Big Smile

Went to visit are next door neightbor at a nursing home. Dwight is 92 years old and I afraid he will not be coming home. Sigh He has been are neightbor for 26 years and I will miss seeing him sitting on his front pourch. He was the Icon of the neighorhood and will be missed by all of us!

Ed God I love Thundering Tennis Balls with steam! I cut the PRR I1sa back to 5 heavy weight pullmans and is doing fine and sounds great!

 None smoking Ken Day 40.

Well I'm finally back on the forums after two VERY busy days!

Mike, I'm currently across the lake from you and also suffering through a constant foggy drizzle. It finally stoped about a half hour ago, but the ground is WET! It means no yard work, which is good and bad, good cause I don't feel like doing yard work, bad cause I can't mae any money to go get trains with!

Speaking about getting trains I went to a used hobby shop yesterday and got a old 70s era roundhouse kit for a three "battle mountain" ore hoppers for $13, they look like they may be fun to build (someday...). Also got a VERY NICE P2K stock car for just $9.95. I though that was a deal!

Everyone have a nice evening!

I am back on Daytona Beach for a few days. Not another vacation, this is a work week.

.

Still, not a bad way to work for a week, coming home to the beach everyday.

.

Mother nature is putting on quite a show right now. The storms are impressive out over the Atlantic Ocean tonight.

Ken if you didn't have bad luck, you wouldn't have any.

Congrats on the smoking though.

We heard a crunch crunch crunch at a previous house.  Eventually a wood boring beetle emerged from the oak floor.  That board was replaced and the beetle was inside the board and must have survived kiln drying and emerged years later.

Termites can do a huge amount of destruction.  A neighbor tried to treat them himself and the guy who bought his house had to replace the entire front door frame and surrounding 2x4's

We have no termites in the northern hemisphere.  That's a southern thing.

We have carpenter ants up here, which is even a worse thing.  Carpenter ants make termites look like a toy and they're very hungry, fast and aggressive.

If you have a start of rot anywhere on your dwelling, they WILL move in.

Yikes

Good evening all.

Zoe - A RBF please. Thanks.

Garry - Well wishes on the surgery in the morning.

Ken - Keep up the good work on the non-smoking front. Termites are somewhat rare (although not unheard of) in the Great Lakes region, but carpenter ants, bees, and some beetles are more common. However, if they came in on something else that got transported in.... Anything is possible.

Lion - Nice pic of the trumpet flower. Are wildebees mini versions of wildebeesties? Or just more proper term?

SPSOT - Any jet lag yet?

Steven NWP - You still around? Just busy with the new job?

Bird watchers - Saw a Brown Thrasher today, don't recall ever seeing one before.

Weather - Warm and sunny today, but rain expected for tomorrow.

W*^k - Still going good.

Caught the Canadian Grand-Prix (Grande-Prix?) today on tv, and was very disappointed in the officiating taking away the battle for the win. Sorry F1, that's why I normally don't watch you. I get that you have rules, but you need to let theses boys race! They are "supposed" to be the best in the entire world, so let them battle it out for the win to prove it! Not only should Vettel protest, so should all who bought tickets!

Too bad NASCAR was rained out... Double let down today.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the rest of the night!

Good morning everyone,

Been meaning to post for quite a while just haven't gotten to it I have some time due to some sleep troubles so here goes.

Various updates in no particular order of importance or time.

So I got approved for my first credit card, gonna use it for 20 bucks in gas once a month to build credit.

Still at the Y, no second job but I'm picking up more hours at the Y all the time.

Speaking of the Y, it's nice to work at a place where 90% of the lifeguards are females, more importantly 17-20 year old females, but more on that in a moment.

So three weeks ago, one of the ladies that works at the front desk made a comment about my relationship status and attempted to "introduce" me and a camp counselor who has a boyfriend, the girl proceeds to talk to me for a little while, then she goes back to work and I think nothing of it, a week ago she comes to the desk and accuses me of flirting with her and threatening to beat up her boyfriend...   Yeah really, she turns around after I tell her no that was not the case, I was just polite and professional, she turns around and starts telling other camp counselors! So I went to my boss she had the camp director talk to her and yet this bat**** crazy girl is still trying to talk to me, frankly shes not my type, rather homely, nothing wrong with that, just not a girl worth pursuing.

But wait theres more! (More girl drama that is)

So last week I got the inside information on some of the personnel, specifically some of the female personnel, so the head lifeguard is a rather cute 20 yo brunette who is really nice well turns out she has had crushes on every guy that's worked there, and actually went out with a guy till he broke it off due to her trying to blackmail him, she also will flirt with guys then when they/we show any interest in return she flips and cries wolf. Well this guy that informed me of all this has known her since highschool and basically he's noticed that she might have her sights on me now, and in light of this information certain happenings and behaviors weren't just being nice or not know personal space but perhaps something else, now this I can handle, I'll just be nice but let her know back off if she tries anything.

But wait there is still more!

I told my friend Sarah about the crazy camp counselor and the lifeguards crush on me (didnt mention the history there) she wanted to know if they were cute, and if I was going to ask the lifeguard out, literally demanded to know, I was just "maybe I dont know yet".

On top of all this another lifeguard might, might I say, this is totally unconfirmed just observations of behaviours, have a thing for me, might, not making any assumptions at this point, luckily shes not crazy and is pretty cute too!

Now that that entire debacle is over heres some other updates.

Next payday I'm giving my friend a down payment on a DCC and Paint job on a pair of 80MACs, NWP-SWP green on green! Just trying to decide what locomotive numbers to do, I've considered going my model numbers so 80s would be 80xx series, 40s = 40xx, 45s=45xx, problem with that numbering scheme is GPs vs SDs, alternatively I could do hrspwrs, so 80s =50xx, 40s=30xx still kinda the same problem, I could do power per axle, GP40s= 75xx, SD40s=50xx, SD80s = 83xx, still kinda a wonky system, so I thought perhaps do five digits, first digit denotes number of axles then next two either HP or Model #, so an SD80MAC would be either a 650xx or 680xx, a GP40 would be 430xx or 440xx and so on and so on, I know the popular method is just 4 digits so I might just go that way I dont really know.

Let's see did I leave anything out? I think I went over everything. Night guys! (Gotta get that extra hour and a half of sleep)

Steve

Beautiful morning here in Daytona Beach since the clouds cleared overnight.

.

I have a meeting at 9:00, so I need to go. However, I am hoping ror an easy week so I can enjoy an evening or two with my wife. Hopefully the weather will be better than yesterday.

.

I have a couple of train cars with me to finish in the hotel room if time allows.

.

We saw this little guy in the hedges in front of the hotel this morning while we were watching the sunrise. Turns out he is a carnivore. He was eating "Anoles" out of the bushes, and was concentrating so hard on getting his meal that he let me get pretty close.

Pretty sure I have Termites or other wood eating insect in the attic.

If you have termites in the attic, then you are in VERY BIG TROUBLE.

Termites must have access to the ground, over concrete they will build tunnels to access your wood floors groum the ground. You will be able to see these tunnels.

This is a major project for an exterminator, to locate all of their entry points and to discover all the damage that they have caused enroute to the attic.

And in Pennsylvaina at least, you cannot hide this from a prospective buyer. If you know about a diffency you must report it at the time of sale.

.

In Florida everything is built on concrete slabs, and most houses are made of concrete block. Termites will still find a way to the wood interior studs. Any crack in the slab is a way in.

.

You never know they are there until the get to the roof.

Good morning, everyone.  Bacon and Eggs for breakfast.

I should get my NCE USB connection in the mail today.  I'm going to try to learn JMRI to get a handle on all the CVs.  I've learned a lot in a year of building a layout.  I guess this is next.  Sometime this year I would like to start learning how to work with Arduino to control some lights and signals.  Or, maybe not.

Garry, thinking and praying for you this morning for your surgery.

Ken, I hate to hear of your battle with what we call termites.  I lived in New Orleans for 20 years, and it was a constant battle there.  The houses were all on raised pilings or on concrete slabs, and as Kevin said, that didn't stop them.

T Fiddler, I'd rather be with you at the lake today than trying to work in the mud in my backyard.  My daughter got married at a lake in northern Minnesota,  beautiful except for the mosquitos the size of condors.

Lion, you are inspiring me to start looking at doing more photography.  Not the expensive camera route, but the manipulating images route.  It's something I've always wanted to learn, but never had the time.  Now having the time, I need to push myself to do some of the things I put off.

We are delaying our Utah trip plans for a while -- both my wife and I have some minor health things to deal with.  Hopefully in several months we will be back to planning the drive.

Everyone have a good Monday.
