Good Afternoon,

It is a hot one here today. Right now it is 95F which is really hot for us this time of year. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 66F and showers. We have thousands of elm seeds descending on us so I was up on the roof this morning cleaning the troughs. Right beside our house we have an elm tree that is about 150 years old according to an arborist. It really generates a lot of seeds that are small flat things for those unfamiliar with elm trees.

Brent, that is a lovely looking loco even if it is CP.

Garry, good luck with the surgery. Sounds like it will be a fairly quick procedure.

I too like the sound of piston aircraft engines. There is a flying Lancaster in Canada that has 4 RR Merlins. Quite a sound when it goes over low. It was visiting Winnipeg from its base in Hamilton a couple of years ago. A couple of the old water bombers they use here have radial engines and the sound of them on full power when lifting off a lake is really amazing. They are based in Gimli where I used to have my sailboat and did practice runs in the lake there.

Well time for a cool drink.

My spare tire from beer hasn't gotten too bad, ....yet.  I don't need to dump any donuts down there thoughTongue TiedLaugh

I pretty much stay away from the Sweets and Fluff.  I prefer to leave room for steaks, walleye and potatoes.  Lots of potatoes.

Meat and potato man all the wayDinner

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang a Beer and I will take a Keg with a straw and leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Have a world of trouble on my mine. It may be just the time and give up and rent a house.

Ed I know why the B&O President Adams was limping! It broke a traction tire! Far as the PRR I1sa lack of traction? I took your advice and I am running a track cleaning car on the track.( I1sa smoke unit started working and after 3 trips around the layout it started have traction problems) I have cut the I1sa down to 3 Heavy Weight Pullman cars and using the CB&Q's F7's to pull the tracking cleaning car.

 Does BLI sell traction tires?

 Later still none smoking Ken

But I still prefer the pounding bass and banshee wail of the Packard-Merlin V-1650 in the P-51.

Hi Adam,

The sound is unmistakable. I have heard it for real (live) only a few times in my life and each time it sent shivers up my spine!

Great video.

Thanks,

The site does not suggest humane ways to kill the raccoon.

Carbon monoxide.

Edit: If you want the methodology, PM me. I won't post it here. Some might be offended.

I remember Lion telling us that he orders cases of wine for the monastery.  That's got to be it.

Another beautiful morning here, but it's going to be hot and humid today.

After I plant some grass seed in the backyard, I swear that today, I'm going to finish the layout's gas station.  I have been trying to finish for weeks, and I keep putting it off.

If anyone hears when the UP Big Boy will leave Wyoming and head for Omaha, let me know.  I live about a half-hour from the UP mainline, and I would love to see it come through.  I checked the steam schedule, and it only says that it will be in Omaha in July.

Have a good day, everyone.

p.s.  Does anyone else have trouble with the page numbers on this forum?  I have been having trouble getting to the last posts at the diner.  When I click the last page number, it goes to an older page.

Ah, yes, City Classics market.  I used the A&P decals for mine.  We used to have lots of them when I was growing up.  Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company.  I have a truck of theirs, too.  It's just a small truck, but it helps set the scene.

With my diabetes, potatoes are a no-no for me.  I can't eat baked beans either, or corn, or much bread.  No dessert, but I can eat steak!

That's not my trouble.  My problem is that when I click on the last page listed, I don't go to the last page.  I go to the page before it, with no way to get to the last active page.  I have to go back to the opening "Recent Activity" page and scroll down to the last person to post if I want to get to the last page.

Just like Ricky, my pages listed are 0,1,2,3,4,5, and if I click on the 5, I get the page before this one.

Of course, if that's my biggest problem today, then I'm a pretty blessed person.

Yep the site has had this problem for a couple years now.  Not sure why they can't seem to fix the bug...  Easy way to get where you want to go:  scroll to the top of the page, click on Jeffrey's diner, and that takes you to page 1.  Then it will show in the, list of pages page 6.  Click on 6 and it takes you to page 6...  or just go all the way back to General Discussion and click on the diner, it takes you to page 6.  After page 6 the problem corrects itself.....  ?????

 Afternoon Diners! Big Smile

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please.

In a much better frame of mind tonight.

One reason is the Small but Mighty B&O Heavy Pacific traction tire is fixed! While my LHS K-10 Model Trains did not have BLI Tractions Tires they had Walthers Traction tires. Don one of the Volunteers that help there offred to install it for me! Bow He had a devil of a time getting the rod bolt off but he got it done. Did not charge me anything.

I1sa is all so pulling a little better, knock on wood. Spoke to soon, it just stalled pulling only 6 heavy weight pullmans. Guess it needs tractions tire after all. I think when the traction tires get warm, they start to slip.

Gary I have been self absored of late. What is the surgery for this Monday?  Best of luck no matter what it is for!

Wife is mad at me? Front of the house was so over growen it looked abandon with vines, trees and dead fern bushes in front of the front pourch. Reason? She does not want anyone to see her sitting outside?ConfusedConfusedHmm Ok, she is 68 years old and does not look like she did when I meet her. Stick out tongue She does not look 68 and it's not like she weight's 300 pounds either? Says she is ashamed how the house looks! Well so am I! That is the reason I am cutting the stuff down and cleaning up the front of the house!

39 days and counting none smoking Ken posting again.

Thanks for that Brent.  That would be a great novelty set.  I would make a long acrylic case and put that on the fireplace mantel.  Easily removable of course so I could put it on the layout, once in one of Lions double yellow moonsLaugh

I would run it really slow,... put one of my favorite Johnny Cash mixes on the stereo and enjoy that beauty rolling down the track, long and black.

Don't think for a minute I didn't go on eBay and see if they had one of those in N scale.  I knew better before I started to lookSad

I had a great day with my daughter today.  We had a lot of fun.

I got home this evening and my wife told me your buddy Erv really misses you.  I said why is that, where did this come from?  She said last weekend we were in Wisconsin doing train stuff.  This weekend you're spending time with your daughter.  The weekend before that there was something.  He's used to you stopping out on the weekends.

Judy said he called this morning shortly after I left to go see my daughter and asked,  What's Casey Jones doing today?  I busted a gut.  He knows about my model railroad hobby and my weekend train getaways.

Next weekend is Father's Day weekendSmile  I can't believe I haven't been out to see my buddy Erv once, yet this summer.  I will be making some time.  Must make time for friendsSmile, Wink & Grin

Hi Rob. Good to hear from you. Actually the New Haven had electrics so I could set up catenary - just not the trolley type. When you moved, did you stay in the same area so you could still volunteer at the museum?  Nosey people want to know.

     Cheers, J.R.

Hi JR yes we did only moved about ten blocks or so as the bird flies. Closer to the CN mainline Whistling That wasn't planned or anything.Laugh Still doing at least one day a week in summer at the museum. Since you were there the fourth barn is up a full and a few new ( to us ) cars have come to us as well. So always lots to do and see.

The GF's running group had a run today, and as they always do, there was food and drink afterwards.  Today, we ate at a local place in an old dining car.  It wasn't moving, of course, but it was a nice casual place and they moved tables around and accommodated our group of 12 with no problem.  I had beer and a few tacos, swapping the beans and rice for a nice salad.

Flo,  if you have one of those extra large bundles of asparagus in the refrigerator,  just saute that up for me with a little olive oil, sea salt and lime.  Sprinkle some Parmesan over it before you bring it out to me...... and if you have another one of those fillets of walleye   Thanks

After this I'm hitting the rack.  Your tip is in the bag

Hi TF!

Sounds like a healthy meal!

Dianne and I love to grill our asparagus. We partially cook it first, then do the olive oil, salt and pepper thing, and then put it on a hot grill to give it some char.

Our daughter in law does a mean baked asparagus! Same simple ingredients, plus some parmesan. She seems to be able to time it just right so that it has just the right amount of crust from the cheese and char from the baking. What's interesting is that she is just learning to cook. She was raised on meat and potatos but now she is producing some really great dishes!

Now I'm hungry again!

Cheers!!

LION likes his speargrass plain. (Him a plane sort oif LION)

Just steam them and they are done.

LION likes all of his vegies plain and slightly undercooked.

Him likes plane dishes... him seas 'fancy' dishes in the home and food mags, they are NOT for him.

Each ingredyant you add makes the LION to want to run further and further away.
