Steven Otte
Non-railroad things to see include the world-famed Milwaukee Art Museum, the Milwaukee Public Museum, and depending on the time of year, a play, a concert, or a baseball or basketball game. There are many great restaurants, too, though I don't know if any of them serve wildebeest.

.

Kalmbach and Walthers were great.

.

The Harley Davdison museum is also a good stop in Milwaukee, but my tour guide was awful.

.

I just heard on the news that they scrubbed the Space-X launch for tonight. Bummer. We have perfectly clear skies and I can see the launch pad (50 miles away) from my hotel room balcony. I was really looking forward to watching a launch tonight.

.

Top Of The Page! Everybody grab a cold can of Heineken from the fridge and meet me by the pool!

Hi everyone,

Steve O:  Thanks for the tip about Trainfest.  That's something that's close that sounds like a lot of fun.

Also, the Milwaukee Art Museum is wonderful.  They also have reciprocal agreements with the Art Institute in Chicago.

The Harley museum is interesting even though I don't ride.

There are good restaurants in Milwaukee.  I don't know if it still exists, but there was a restaurant called "The Safe House" in which you had to say the password to get in.  If didn't already know, the staff would tell you.

Theres also Benelux, at least I think thats what it's called, which is a sort of design district with shops and restaurants.  Fun area.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Good Morning All,

Wow sleepy morning - half way down the page we were.  I'll have a regular and a waffle with blueberrys and a hint of whipped cream please Zoe.

First morning since surgery for a full shower without my leg wrapped in Saran Wrap. Very coolYes. I can now change my own dressings and add the bacitracin and I'm all good. Still have to wrap the leg like a mummy with Ace bandages to keep it all in place but progress is good.

Ken - your progress is better. After all those years smoking, I'm really impressed.

Yup, New York subways are overcrowded. Especially at rush hour which seems to last now from 6am to 9pm with little let up. #2 son and DIL live in Queens now and both ride, DIL carrying her graphics portfolio as well to and from work. They both feel the subway is way better than the surface streets as the motorists are all out of control and do everything but drive down the sidewalks. I go on occasion and I agree about the driving. I take the train - won't drive there unless I have to. When we have to fly out of NYC, we use a car service to and from the airport.

Spent time cleaning and checking yard track last night. It's coming along nicely now that I found the jumbo size polishing block I acquired a few years ago. I have decided after the yard is completely sorted, next will be the mains on the lower level so I'll have to pull the placekeeper factories on the wall. Getting to thetrack after the buildings are pulled won't be an issue though. The wall behind the yards fronts an isle for the basement. When I put the walls in I hinged them at the top so I can swing them right out of the way and get access to the layout.

2019-05-13 20.45.46 by J.R. Mitchell, on Flickr" alt="wall hinged up for access" />

I will probably do the same when I close in behind the rest of the yard so I can do a backdrop and also keep more dust and dirt out of the layout though it has been pretty good now that I have moved all the wood working tools out to the CFO's shop (what used to be our garage).

Well, time to pick up tools and see how it goes in the shop. Quiet with all but three of us at the track this weekend.    Chow, J.R.

Good morning.

It was 70° this morning at 6:00 a.m., so we are expecting a warm day today.  We are in the middle of predicted severe weather this weekend.

I have not been to Milwaukee since I was a little kid.  There are a lot of places like that that I should visit, but with grandchildren in various places, it seems that our trips from now on will be to see them  Our Utah trip this summer will be unusual because we do not have any family there.

Years ago, there was a trite saying, "Today is the first day of the rest of your life!"

I was told that we should do the opposite, "Live your life like today is your last day on earth."

I aim to enjoy today, and I hope you all can also.

I remember waiting 19 hours at the train station in Minot after visiting my son. The passenger train was delayed because of high winds.

Yes, Yes! Minot. Only a three hour drive from here.Nice station for only two trains a day. Delays are to be expected on the Builder. Hundreds of miles of tracks, and somewhere there MUST be a construction zone with a 10 mph restriction.

20 miles of that and you will be almost three hours late. And that is not the only one.

The timetable takes this into accoun with longer layovers in Minappelless, cuse thay can never know where the host road will be working on the trks. They change from BNSF to CP at Miniappelless, so they want the next railroad to recive them on time.

Nope, IO had not seen it. I do not agree with their seating proposal. Longitudinal seating is the only way to go, and it will sure be nice to have the open gangways again. We have not had them since the old D type cars in the 1920s.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, where is everyone? There polishing the Big Boy? Whistling Will I take a Beer please and leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Day Off, I wish I was at work. Would not be as tired!

Gas Line Repair I know it sounds silly but 8:00 AM it pretty darn early to me now. I don't go to work till 11:00 Am, normally at 8:00 AM I sucking down coffee anf don't have to deal with people. Well we have gas again and hot water! I just knew in the long run this was going to cost me $300.00 and I was right. Total for the 2 visits from the plumper's was $325.50.

Yard Wars Guess I am feeling some what better with not smoking. Got the front and rear yards cut. Cut out a few sapling's and weed wacked. If I had not had to do some running I would have done more.

Any of you remember when about 3 to 4 years ago I said I sprayed a Rose bush with round up by mistake. I was clearing a lot, and I mean a lot of over growth out and this Rose Bush was in sad shape before I hosed it! While it lived there has not been any roses. Before I sprayed with Round Up we might get one or two roses. With the over growth it was hardly getting any sunlight.

Today while I was cutting the backyard I was shocked when I saw around 30 rose buds! Really looking forward to seeing it bloom! Big Smile

Saturday I will be cutting out the rotten gutters, rotten fascia and taken down the soffit. Then I will see what I am really dealing with.

 Day 17 and counting!

TF Is it a proven fact that eating peppers will clean out yor veins of cholestrol plaque or just something you heard? While for the last few years my cholestrol has been great (last one total cholestrol was 131) it was high at one point.

It is something I've heard many times through the years, enough to make me believe it.  I did look it up now that you asked.  Apparently capsaicin is a natural enzyme in peppers.  It is not scientifically proven but studies point to cardiovascular benefits of peppers.

Here's some more healthy regiments for you to consider.

Number one)   Turmeric.

Turmeric is so wonderfully good for you it's not even funny.  The health benefits for your cardiovascular system is phenomenal.  It is proven as a cancer preventative and it's also used to treat cancer as a regiment.  It helps your body heal everything that you don't even know about.  It is a great flavor enhancer,  I sprinkle it on all my food.

2)   Organic raw apple cider vinegar with the mother.

A cap full off the bottle in a half a cup of water to drink every evening a few hours before you go to bed balances your pH and keeps it balanced on a day-to-day level.  Very important,  you can either be alkaline or acidic,  the right choice is alkaline.  Another good cardiovascular regiment.  It will keep you healthy and preventing you from getting sick.

If you want to reduce cholesterol in your system and clear your arteries,  here is some more.  I am not going to elaborate on these,  I'm tired and I'm going to hit the rack soon.

3)   Black beans

4)   Oats.... Quaker works

5)   Lentils

6)   Fish

7)   Avocados

8)   Pistachios

9)   Broccoli

10) Asparagus.

Miracle veggie.  It always smells bad when you Wiz hours after you ate this because it just cleaned your system.

11) Watermelon

12) Whole grains

13) Potatoes

14) Eggs... positive cholesterol

15) Dark Chocolate

16) Coffee

17) Wine

17) Berries

18) Green Tea

19) Yogurt

20) Beats    Another huge one.  I juice them in my little concoction.

Dates way back in history.  The Egyptians used beats as a blood cleanser.  Maybe that's why they did such a good job on the Pyramids (The beacon for lightspeed to our planet out of the black hole)Laugh  Flushes your liver and kidneys too.

Healthy TrailsYes     TF

Sorry to hear you spent $325 for your gas problem Ken.  Too bad I don't live closer to you.  I would have done it for $29.95Laugh and been done in 10 minutes because I know exactly what it was from your description.  Are you kidding me,  free for a friend and a beerBeer.... or fourWhistling

With NO soffits or fascia you'll be inviting every raccoon in the neighborhood (squirrels and chipmunks, too) to move in with you.

When I rode the ’Builder a few years ago it arrived in Seattle delayed, something about a truck running into the baggage car an second engine at some grade crossing. We departed from Seattle about two hours late, with a BNSF engine replacing one of the Genesises, then sat in Spokane an hour waiting for the Portland section. We kept making up time as we went east, then go delayed again so by the time we got to Chicago (Glenview Il, accually) we were still 3 hours late.

To be honest delays on Amtrak long distance stuff is a bit expected, at least in small amounts. Amtrak really can’t do much about it if the host railroad makes them late! And accidents do happen, such as the grade crossing thing I just mentioned. That doesn’t mean the Amtrak is not worth riding though, it’s still a great experience!

Regards, Isaac

Hello...

cudaken
Ed You need to lay off the sause when installing harrolds! While I love B&O I think the I1sa is a PRR engine. Great talking with you on the phone! By the way give the Hippo test run for the heck of it. I hope it's decoder is not wacked like your K-4.

OK, Ken — no sauce. Just a little gravy! I think I got the right railroad this time?

 PRR_Decapod by Edmund, on Flickr

Now you have the only PRR Decapod with a Keystone, and I hope that's what you wanted, the PRR insignia, not the engine number (The PRR nuts will go nuts!)

My K4 arrived in Ormond Beach today. They are supposed to have another identical engine to replace it. No, I have not run yours (IF you earn it Whistling) yet.

More than half way! Keep up the great work.

Cheers, Ed

Good Morning All,

A regular please Chloe. Already took the CFO to brekkies and had the blueberry pancakesDinner.  Speaking of brekkie, did the Mantis get the bee Ray? Those things always looked like something from another planet even in hiding.

Had to kick start the innertube this morning. The shop is right down the road from the cable company and I bet we have more outages on the weekends than anyone.

Way to go Ken. Not much longer (well actually the rest of forever but it is easier by then).

No progress on the layout last night. Got home and found the foot all swollen again. Sighpffft. Need to keep it elevated at that point so no tromping up and down stairs, under duckunders, etc.

TF - that is just about my "proper" dietary recommendations plus chicken and turkey. Got to watch the purines though - gout flares up then.

I will finish tidying up my desk and see what sort of trouble I can find in the shop. Catch Y'all Later,  J.R.

Happy Preakness everyone. The old grandstands were never adequately modernized, part has been condemned and the racetrack owners want to move the Preakness out of Baltimore to the suburb race tack in Laurel.

This could be the last one at old Pimlico.

The official drink is the Black Eyed Susan. The flower is not in season, so the winning horse will be draped with daisies painted to look like BES.

The 2019 Preakness black-eyed Susan (bring a designated driver)

» 1 part Maker’s Mark

» 1 part DeKuyper Cocktail Peachtree

» 1 part Effen Vodka

» 2 parts orange juice

» 2 parts sour mix

Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a glass over crushed ice. Garnish with an orange and cherry.

Good morning.  Great morning to walk - temps in the 60s.

Not much scheduled today - my kind of day.  The bacon and eggs taste great, the coffee is hot, and dog is sleeping on my lap.

Our trees are shedding a lot this spring - which means I will have to clean out the gutters for a second time this year.  The newspaper said that we had a late freeze last year, and most trees lost their seed production when they froze.  They are making up for it this year.

I went out last night and hung with my wargaming club for the first time in way too long. They changed our name from "The Southwest Florida Historical Wargamers" to "Wargators". This is certainly easier to say.

.

My friend Tomas (The Winter Wolf) was showing off his new WW2 German Army. His painting is magnificent, but all I had with me was my cell phone, so the picture does not do his work justice.
