gmpullmanwhat I'll do is weather the existing car but mask off where the letters are missing so they look "new" then apply the missing WAB with the dry transfers.
Sounds like a great plan!! Waiting to see the result.

Thanks, George. I do have a set of block lettering, dry transfers from Woodland Scenics. I think what I'll do is weather the existing car but mask off where the letters are missing so they look "new" then apply the missing WAB with the dry transfers.
I remember seeing repairs made to hopper cars that were fire damaged and the car shop crudely masked the outline of the lettering to sort of match.
How's this for an example of a quick paint job:

Cheers, Ed
gmpullmanI might keep them this way or crudely "stencil" the missing letters in as if the car shop had to repair some panels

Do 'ya 'spose Life-Like would honor the warranty on a twenty-year old car? Tonight I was looking for a mindless project to work on while watching some 1930s vintage "Forbidden Hollywood" movies I just picked up in a DVD set.
I got done with the B&O War Emergency hopper OK. Only lost one grab iron so I decided to move on to the Wabash car. Imagine my surprise when I saw the lettering!

Well, I might keep them this way or crudely "stencil" the missing letters in as if the car shop had to repair some panels. These cars have the steel sheets applied not long after the War was over. I've seen lots of instances where lettering doesn't match up after a car or locomotive has shop work done.
I don't think anyone at Life-Like would be interested in my story.
Carry-on with the great contributions, folks!
Regards, Ed
How did you do that? Thank you! I wish I could figure it out so that i can keep contributing...

My first attempt at posting pictures here on the forum, so if it doesn't work, any help would be much appreciated. Its cold here in Wisconsin, so I am working on my N scale Beach scene. I just built the boardwalk and added the sand.... Its hard to see it now, but once the water is put down, it will really start to come to life.

WHERE did another week go?
Rhetorical quesytion, of course! Thanks for setting up our Weekend Photo Fun thread, Kevin. I saw your explanation for coming up with the Stratton & Gilette name. Have you ever considered lettering cars for the Tecumseh & Schick, Kohler & Bic or the Waukesha & Gem?
Fun Stuff and great contributions, everyone. I got the Big Four Business car pretty much wrapped up.

Any similarity of this car to Santa Fe-s #9 & 10 are strictly coincidental.

This is a Pecos River car that I found at a train show at a super bargain price. The detail is astronomical. I like the venetian blinds and I put just enough of an interior in there to make it look convincing.

Got to get some markers hung back there.
On to more great stuff, Folks!
Peter, Love those wigwags! The next pic displays my signal for the day...
Mike, Thanks for the enthusiastic comment. She is a little jewel - a Gem Models product. But since it was model railroading weather today...
[note the windsock standing almost horizontal]...I jumped in to mostly finish things...
I still need to do some painting on the frame, plus decal it and add window glazing, but it's substantially complete after my "Earl Schieb" paint job.
I add an air tank on the engineer's side and a honking big compound air compressoer on the fireman's side. The excuse is that the mods were needed to run in the Rockies but the reality is I just needed more weight and there was no place left to put it inside.
Since it seemed to be getting around well with one light car, I got another hitched up, a RPO-express, and was surprised to find the little Mogul handled both cars right up the 4% grade that begins the Cascade Branch. It does tend to cut-out and restart after i lifted the troublesome sliders, but picks up only from one side on both the loco and the tender so am thinking about adding extra pickups on at least the loco.
Then there is all that space up front with only a pair of pony wheels to lead. If I can find the right wheelsets, I could change this into a 4-6-0 PDQ.
Finally, for those who prefer DC, here's a video shot back when what will be the #7 was just DC, 2 days ago..

Kevin, Thanks for the WPF start-up and opportunity to view another distinctive addition to your expanding freight car roster.
Thanks to all the contributors and have a happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, regards, Peter
Mike - That 2-6-0 is a little jewel - nice job! I always have mixed feelings about covering that beautiful brass with paint.
Great stuff guys, been a long day so I won't comment excepting when the Bear's been in the Scotch, I'll be looking for a tree to climb...these days around here, the bears have taken to toting little kegs of brandy around hanging from their necks like St. Bernards...
This is nothing big in narrowgauge like Mike's K-class. Rather it's at the smaller end of things, a HOn3 New Berlin & Winfield 2-6-0 that I remotored with a LocoDoc Mashima 1220 and custom flywheel and dropped a decoder in. No sound except the whirring gears.

It started something like this.
Went together like this.
A Rio Grande C-19 is huge next to it.
It's not that much bigger than a PowerWagon.
The headlight is intense.
It will only pull about one light passenger car upgrade, but looks pretty good even before paint.
Got all distracted from building the boxcars, so will try to get back to that.
Good looking stuff guys, always enjoy looking at what everyone's doing. I'm like a fly on the wall around this thread lately.
Always looking, always admiring, can't wait, till I'm retiring I really need to find some time to get back to my layout soon.
Bear good to see you here and your Forum Funnies.... you put a big smile on my face TF
PS The rubber mallet is still in my fridge.
Great work, everyone!

A good beginning to WPF guys.
Kevin - That is a unique boxcar.
Rick - Good looking FAs. I love the early ALCOs.
Harrison - You're making progress.
Mike - Great looking loco!
Not much new on the BRVRR. Finally got the flashing on my new station's cupola to look half-way-decent. I added the main chimney and the freight office smoke pipe. Next are the signs and posters and figuring out the lighting. Then mounting on the layout.
Just a little something from a recent "play time."
Keep the photos and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.
Remember its your railroad

Happy Weekend,All!
Finally finishing up the K-28.A bit of weathering powder to clean off,and lots of CVs to change, but it runs - and sounds - great.

Rick - Your picture shows up fine in firefox.
Have a good one!

SeeYou190I can see Rick's pictures on my work computer with Google Chrome, but I cannot see them on my home computer at all. Kevin
Kevin
I can see them using IE, but the picture took a long time to load. The entire WPF thread would not load on my Ipad. I have DSL, not high speed internet
Rick - What file size are your images? Megabyte size files give some people problems.
I'm using Fire Fox, as I have for a long time, and I always seen your pictures before. Not seeing your pictures now. I tried Chrome, and I see them. Go figure.
Sometimes when I post pictures, I don't see them, but others do?
Oh well, back to WPF!
I use Windows Exploder at work, and they show up fine, also Google Chrome and Firefox at home with no problems.
Photobucket has changed their edit program and it has some kind of dynamic content which causes some problems with other browsers and some websites.

Living the dream.
Kevin- another nice boxcar!
Rick- Those FA's look very sharp, as does anything Rapido makes.
Mike- I can see Rick's photos just fine.
I think I have got a fair amount of work done this week.
The first thing I did was glue this traffic cop to one of my cabooses to look like he was "hooping" orders.
I added and glued down some details around the hardware/lumber store.
Me and my friend made about 35 trees for the woods on the corner of my layout.
I added a temperary "facia" out of cardboard and added town and industry names.
Did some more scenery by the intersection of Catherine and Boyton Aves. in Plattsburgh.
Trucks can now pick up paper products at Georgia Pacific.
Here is an arial shot of the finished area of my layout.
Lake Champlain is still looking like plaster. Soon though...(sorry for the very long post, I had alot of photos)

Rick, the last couple of WPF threads, I haven't been able to see your pictures?
It obviously must be something on my end. ??
Good morning from cloudy and cold Northeast Ohio, no snow today but expecting a lot over the weekend.
Kevin, thanks for opening up, I missed out on those cars as I need them for my NYC trains.
Nothing complete this week, I built a couple of cars but I have to set up my painting area before I can paint anything.
Last week I took my Rapido FA-2's over to the club and took some pictures.
The FA-2's are hauling a string of H30 and H34 Covered Hoppers along with a few Lehigh Valley and B&O Covered Hoppers.
Hope to add some FB-2's when they arrive from Rapido some time next year.
Thanks for Looking!
Welcome to Weekend Photo Fun
JANUARY 18 - 20, 2019
All Are Welcome!
Here is an opportunity to showcase any recent project or layout progress.
Please feel free to post any model railroad related photos here — past or present. This is a place to share photos of your layout, equipment or current project.
I am happy to be starting Weekend Photo Fun this week.
Below is a 40 foot boxcar I painted and lettered this week for my world of nonsense. I am guessing the BULADEAN AND TOE RIVER is somewhere in the Carolinas. I like the mixtrure of three different type styles on this car.
The model is a Broadway Limited NYC boxcar.
Keep the pictures coming, and lets all have a great weekend!
