Good evening all.

Zoe - A RBF please. Thanks.

EDIT: Top of the page, so, RBF's for everyone!

Ken - I know all about the not breathing correctly stuff... It's no fun at all. Hope you feel better.

Ed - Berea is always fun. I won't be there tomorrow myself, due to other obligations, and if the forecast there is as it is here, it might be a little stormy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but on Sunday the show in Berea is from 11-4, right?

I might see if I can make it Sunday afternoon if I am right on the time...

Weather - A few of those tornado's Ed spoke of drifted this way Tuesday. Had a EF2 and a EF1 both touch down south of me, and ping-pong ball sized hail near me. No damage for me, fortunately.

Forecast is for strong/possibly severe storms again tomorrow, with a chance of a few isolated tornado's again...

W*^k - Well, I finally know the reason no one stays where I got hired on at. (The reason I said yes is bc the district manager encouraged it. He is good, but not always around... I know him as I was under him in a different store.) I was asked to be less than honest, and refused.

I was then talked to bc I should have "handled it differently."

While it wasn't a flat out lie that I was asked to say, it also wasn't completely honest.

I refuse to do that, no matter the reason. My policy is, you are honest and up-front about things with your customers, and with other employees.

Boss was unhappy that bc I was honest, the customer was a bit angry.

But, had I been less than honest, that would have made it worse when (Not IF, but WHEN) the customer found that fact out.

All I did was sit there and smile while I got lectured that I can't do or say things that will upset customers.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night!

Morning All!

Hobby Front: Got the new auto rack this morning. I was a little bit surprised at quite how complex the car kit is. As a result, this is going to be one of those projects that won't be completed in one sitting. (I was also surprised that the instructions actually included a provision for running on narrow radii as the minimum is listed as 24". I am running 22" on my new layout.) I won't be starting the kit until probably at least Tuesday. (I still have an 8.5" or so long crossing that I need to finish building. Using the precut ties will take awhile to finish.)

Afternoon folks,

I'm beat, went to the MSMRC op session today, only ran one train.

Yesterday went to the ZHS homecoming game, Zachary won, I forget the score.

I'll be back in later.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, get the gang and I a Beer and Rick something speical.

Rick good to see you again in the dinner! First time I have ever had breathing troubles and it does suck.

Had a good night, no hacking, no rasping in the chest! Big Smile I was sure I was over with the Broncitties! I was wrong! Sigh Today while watching TV with the wife I started spitting chucks of flem again. Well better to get it out than have it in the lungs.

Train Front Looks like I have the needed Tower Gear for the BLI PRR M1a. Big Smile Now all I have to do is remember what tool I used to drive the pin out of the tower and gear it self? Whistling I think, I have a real small center punch and I mean small! No clue where the center punch set is right now. Or if that is how I got the drift pin out 10 years ago?

Time to walk the wife, so later.

Evenin' Diners!!!

This weekend has been my 50th. class reunion of Eastman School of Music, U of R.  Friday I had my best friend from Eastman who I have kept in touch with all these years and his wife stop over at my house and then we went out to dinner at Edgar's at Belhurst Castle here in geneva.  (https://www.belhurst.com/edgars/)

Today I drove to Rochester, NY and spent the day at Eastman for the first time in at least 20 years or so (I used to take a select Chorus there to meet with some professors and spend the day at a conservatory).  Had a magnificent lunch across the main street at a high class newish restaurant, then spent about two and a half hours at a concert featuring the Eastman Brass in Kilburn Hall (The smaller auditorium).  The Euphonium (Tuba) choir was great, the Eastman Trombone Ensemble was just as good (It was world famous) as when I was a student there, but........  The French Horn Ensemble was......  WOW!!!!!!  You haven't lived until you have experienced "Jupiter" from The Planets Suite, by Gustav Holst played by 30 French Horns....  Again, Holy WOW!!!!!!!  Absolutely blew my mind.  Then they added another 20 French Horn Players (From the Community Program - High School players, and a bunch of Alumni who sat in and did a couple more in pieces surrounding the audience.  Absolutely Awesome! I had tears streaming down my face as my hearing has improved enough to be completely moved by all the performances.

I got to talk with several old classmates I was friends with including a French Horn player I dated for about 4 months my freshman year.  She ended up marrying a Bass player in our class who was able to make the trip down with her (They live in Canada).  I told her about the time one of my eighth grade classes asked me about when I started dating...  I told them when I was a freshman in college I dated a French Horn Player, then took a big breath, smiled and said, "Man, what an embouchure she had......"  I got in trouble as it got back to the principle who was sure I said something off color to the students.  I finally explained that an embouchure is the lips as used on a woodwind or brass instrument....  Anyway, my old girlfriend loved the story and twice today she gave me a quick hug and a little peck on my cheek, then said she just wanted to make sure she still had a good embouchure....  Her husband was right there so it was innocent....  Whistling

I will say I really, really, really miss being able to perform....  Being at Eastman brought back some really bittersweet things in my life.  I will get the Classic Guitar out and get my fingers back in shape.  I know I can get performing on that even if I can no longer sing.

I like the cat room Lion. Maybe even a little bit more than your roomWhistling It definitely has something to do with the air conditioner. I'm sure the picture is past tense. We are definitely phasing out of air conditioner weather here in Minnesota after the long hot summer.

I can tell how much you love your pet. Is that a calico cat?  What's his, her name?  I'm sure Kitty gets lonely in the cat room sometimes and finds the foot of your bedWink

My wife and I miss our last pet. A pet is a member of the family.  It's really hard when they go.

Morning folks,

Still getting the last bits of head cold out of my system.

Cats, yeah we've had our share, right now we're at 4, the old girls Elizabeth and Samantha, and the fellas Billy (three legged) and Walter, we're out in the boonies so they're all outside. We kinda need a big tomcat for natural pest control, Elizabeth and Billy used to handle it but she's gotten too old and Bill lost a leg so he's not as agile as he once was.

Well I'm going to Sunday school, I'll be back, later!

Ah... That zirconditioner is there year round as it cools the wine cellar. Well, they will shut it off in the winter, they have that cold air intake to the right of the A/C which is enough to cool the bottles in the wintertime.

The A/C in my office runs year round, but then my office has six computers running 24/7.

The cat (a she) is Callista, named after Pope Callistus the First, We acquired her on said feast day. She has the correct colors for a Pope and Martyr.

When I lived on the first floor, I'd let her in occasionally to sit on my bed, but now that I am on the second floor, that is no longer possible.

She is an outdoor cat and will howl if you bring her in for too long.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, you know the drill. Beer

Felt more like my old self today, not that its great. No hacking last night and sleep well. Had a couple of hacking fits today but the junk got to come out.

Wife Front I finally got her to go outside today! This is only the thrid time after the sugery. Got her to walk to the connor of are block so round trip was around 350 feet so not that much but 150 feet more than the last time. On the way back to the house there was a thunder clap! Surprise She took off like her hair was on fire and her caboose was catching! Laugh She left me in the dirt for a few seconds.

Hard part is getting her to stop thinking she has a bad knee. Wants to hang on to the door jam going out and coming in. I am all so making her use her cane more and walker less. Getting mind right will be the hardest part, and it has not been right for years. Whistling If my daughter and I could just get her to start taking her happy pills life for all of us would be better.

M1a Front Used a drill bit installed backwards in the Pin Vice and gave the drift pin a good wack! Yep it is all most driven out. Hope to have the PRR M1a dragging some passanger around Monday.

Cleared another PRR coach off the RIP track. It was a simple project, Kadee lost it spring. Few years ago I could just replaces the spring. Sigh Not now, replaced the whole coupler. Sigh Getting old sucks.

After the PRR M1a is back on line next is the Brachline PRR Centfaun coach. Have not found a reason for it strange uncoupling habits. Confused

Time to walk the wife and dog.

 Later, Ken

Evenin’ all……,
Think I’ll have a piece of pecan pie and a cup of coffee please. Extra whipped cream on the pie too. Ya know, why don'tcha just leave the can and I’ll load it up myself thank you.

Been a while I know, been busy. Thought I’d check in and see what’s up and you can imagine my surprise and deep sadness to see Jim and Inch on the RIP list. These were two of the regulars that were here when I came on. Had many a fine conversation with them both in here, in person and email. Jim, well Jim always seemed to get stuck with cleaning up the diner after the New Years Eve parties. Did a good job too. Of course he usually was the first to hang off the chandeliers too. And Inch used to come up when ma had her meetins in Springfield and we met for coffee a couple times. Real nice men both of them. Real nice.

Nothin on the train front to report. Did run an Amtrak round the loop to see if it still ran. Have a couple of dirty spots that required a nudge. Guess I gotta clean some track.

Spent all summer out at my friend’s house doin stuff like building fences, sheds and cleaning up chicken yards and fixin coops. Put up a new garage door and built a few things for her goats. Went to Lake Tanneycomo (sp?) with her oldest son fishing for a few days back in August. Was real good for a 9 year old. Shoot,he was real good for an adult haha. Now I been doin some things for the coal mine and will for about another week and then I have to replace the stair railings for my friend before she gets upset or Thanksgiving whichever comes first. Her Mom is already irked at her Dad for gettin me this job at the mine before I get the stairs done. Her daughter is 14 and has a “boyfriend”, though she tells me he’s not, she tells everyone else he is. Kinda sad. She’s growing upBroken Heart.

Good to see the place is still popular. Good to see some familiar faces and always good to see new ones.

Welp, best get to bed, 4am comes earlier than 5 a lot more thanit should it seems. I’ll try and pop my head in more often.

Ya’ll have a good day now ya here?

Hello folks,

Todd welcome back, I'm Steven, one of the young-uns around here.

Went to bible study and laser tag with my church! The way back I had three girls, yes THREE GIRLS all over me, they asked me just about everything imaginable, they're going to invite all their friends to see me sing at the fall art crawl so I have fans now!

Well I'll be around.

Evening All! Flo (or whoever's handy), could I get my typical late night snack of some breaded mushrooms and blue cheese dressing? Thank you so much.

Finally got my new phone activated and the number transfered from the old one. (Took a half hour with the company's tech support. I had to transfer from one company's towers to the other company's. I run with TracFone.) The only thing I haven't managed to get figured out is how to get the same type of alarms that I had on the old one. The alarms would go off even when the phone was shut off on the old one. I haven't managed to get that to work on the new one. Very annoying

Good morning, all. Been away a few days, got some stuff done.

One of those things was my first-ever visit to the cardiologist. I don't have any major issues, just some of the typical nagging worries that come with crossing the half-century mark. Among other things he told me was to lay off the sweet stuff. So, since here in the Diner it's all virtual, let's enjoy some of that famous New England treat, Boston Cream Pie. Yum!

The other thing I did I'm afraid I can't upload a photo of just yet. But there's a new addition to the Otte roundhouse: Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range Ry. Cat, aka "Missabe" for short. She's a 7-month-old black-and-brown spotted tabby, quite energetic and friendly as the day is long. Once she's out of "medical isolation" for a spot of kitty-cold, we're hoping she'll be a great playmate for our next-youngest cat, 3-year-old Clinchfield. Yes, we name all our cats for railroads. Big Smile Missabe joins Clinchfield and (Santa) Fe, who's 13 and will probably want nothing to do with this brand-new bundle of energy. (Other railway cats we've owned: Pennsy, Miss Katy, and Frisco.)

So anyway, looks like things have been quiet while I was gone. That's good. Quiet is good. Smile

Yeah, I tried to get one of those when I actually turned 50, and thanks to my excessively euphemistic phrasing, ended up getting a colonoscopy instead. Tongue Tied Which found some issues, so I guess a little misunderstanding can be a good thing.

Hudson is a great cat name! I'll have to remember that one for a future cat. (And what a handsome boy Delaware is!)

Other names we have in the queue for future cats include Rio (for Rio Grande), Espee, and Tweetsie. My wife didn't like Rocky (for the Rock Island) because "people will think we named him after the boxer." So I said, "OK then, how about we name him after the Great Northern's mountain goat mascot?" She said, "What name is that?" When I replied "Rocky," you should have seen the dirty look she gave me. Laugh
