Athearn Bombardier Coaches
Posted by nealknows on Saturday, July 14, 2018 9:36 PM

Hello everyone,

Has anyone tried to make the Athearn Bombardier coaches ride better on the track? These derail often. It's not my track as everything else on my railroad runs without any issues. Has anyone just swapped out the trucks for another brand? I would like to keep them, but if nothing can be done, I may get rid of them.

Thanks to all who reply!

All of the Athearn Bombardier coaches I've bought were out of gauge when I got them, so use an NMRA gauge to adjust them.  Also, you can move the tube connecting the half-axles together to move the wheelsets side to side.  Make sure that the wheels are not rubbing against the molded brake pads on the trucks and that they are even with each other so that the truck is square with the track.

I have several of them and they all run perfect out of the box, even when being pushed at high speeds except for one which when assembled didn’t have one set of wheels placed properly in the trucks. When I popped it into place in ran perfectly.
You do need to run them on 22 inch curves or larger.
As for price, they are in very high demand in recent years. When they release a new run you have to jump on it instantly because it is going to sell out immediately.
