Hello all--

If I wanted to find an Athearn Genesis DDA40X in mint condition (having been run is no problem), anybody know where I can find one without overpaying?  Feel free to email me johndmock

Thanks to all for taking the time to read this.

Interesting there seem to be none at all on eBay.

E-bay's not exactly awash in P2K FA-1's, either.

If it has been run, then it would not be mint.

Looks like Mainline Hobby Supply has an undecorated:

http://www.mainlinehobby.com/index.php/141-g69500-undec-dda40x-diesel.html

And a place called Lombard Hobbies also claims to have one in stock, but it might come without decoders: https://www.lombardhobby.com/Athearn-DD40X-p/athg69501.htm

Try Googling Athearn DD400AX and look beyond the first page of results.  There may be those things listed elseware.

Yes, I know how to search online, thank you very much.

I found some nib at $500 each, after several pages of searches, and was just hoping perhaps to not have to spend that much--that somebody on here might have an extra one or know of one at a more favorable price than that.  Didn't call Lombard yet about their unit...have been burned in the past by online dealers charging my card for something "in stock" that was not in stock.  I have ordered from many online dealers, probably everybody left in the country at one time or another, and I'm skeptical of some of them.

Also, "Mint" to me is a purely cosmetic description that reflects a model with no damage or defects.  It absolutely does not ever mean a model has not been run.  In fact much of the new brass has stainless steel driver tires--they can be run for many hours without any scarring of wheels whatsoever--and the dealers know this fact and use it to their advantage.

I've dealt with Lombard a couple of times, it all went well.  They have a brick n mortor store, not sure of your location.

They are usually at Trainfest, in Milwaukee, but I didn't see them last year.  They had NOS Kato C44-9's for $60., but I digress.

The $500 locos you see, must be DCC and sound. It looks like Lombard's isn't.

Good luck!

Mike.

Probaly way more than you want to pay but I found this one that is brand new with DCC and sound for $475 + $18 shipping. Looks like you can pay $43 for twelve months instead if that is a better way for you.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Athearn-Genesis-G69557-Union-Pacific-DDA40X-6930-w-Tsunami-DC-DCC-Sound-NEW/263710888478?epid=1219243089&hash=item3d6664d21e:g:noYAAOSwSatbBx5E

Also interesting to note that Athearn's MSRP was $499, so you are not missing much.

I'm beginning to realize that Windows 10 and sound decoders have a lot in common. There are so many things you have to change in order to get them to work the way you want.

Well, I called Lombard.  The guy that spoke with me was not too chatty.  I asked if the one they had was any kind of store demo or anything like that, and he said no, and yes they still had it in stock.  So I went to the website and bought a #6904, from the first run.

The price is certainly very good at $269.95 plus shipping.

Also the website says they actually have one other one, a 6915, also from the first run and no decoders in it.

Of course I'd have liked the lighting effects of a with-sound unit, but then at this late date, I'm happy to finally get one, so here's hoping it looks every bit as nice as some of the pictures I have seen.

The $500 ones are at Original Whistle Stop.  I have bought from them in the past, and never had an issue at all.  That just seems like a lot to pay, so I inquired here hoping maybe one was available with sound for less than that.

Thank you folks.

Best Regards to all--

John
