The Signal
Posted by BroadwayLion on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 10:40 AM

See, they even turned the signal head so that oncoming trains would know that it was out of service. I should go and ask the DMVW if I could go and collect that signal. Of course it probably belongs to the BNSF since it was protecting access to their mane lion, which is probably why DMVW did not remove it when they pulled up the tracks in the first place.

It´ll make a nice stand for the lion to look for wildebeest!

If you can get a hold of the right guy it’ll be yours.  It worked for a couple of items here in Bakersfield.

I have a similar query, out here in Ethel there's a crossing with signal on HWY 955 well they pulled the tracks about 6 yrs ago, who would you contact about buying it? The town (parish)? Or DOT? Or do I need to find the ROW owner?

First, find out who owns the property / right of way and then go from there. While the rails may be gone, the RR may own it. Check with the local or county clerks office...

In Maine, Maine DOT owns all abandoned RR tracks. Maybe something similar in your location, whereever it is

It used to be the Gloster Southern RR I'll contact the Clerk office to find out.

That would be a nice "take down" for the lion.

If you obtain it and put a really big LED in it, don't forget to include a really big resistor.  Whistling

No worries,

There are plenty of 12 VDC bayonet base LEDs out there. I use them in a couple of my old signals:

Here, I would just go the the DMVW office and ask them. Their office is right here in Bismarck. Just a little steel metal office and a garage that can hold two locomotives head to tail.
