Decal Pro FX

Have any of you tried this decal system? It sounds like the answer to a lot of the issues with water slide decals, as it is basically dry transfers that you can make yourself. It works best with a laser printer, but there is a work around if you only have an ink jet printer.

It looks like promising technology to me, but I was wrong once before. Smile

A laser printer $$$, a laminator $$$, special paper $$$, special backing $$$, hot air gun $$$, special glue $$$, a lot of paper towels $$$

Interesting, but decals are simpler and cheaper.

Sounds pretty expensive to me as well as a lot of steps before one ends up with a decal.

I invested in a used Alps MD1000 for under $200 and it’s a simple process to print any color at $20 per ink cartridge (ribbon).  I haven’t run out of ink (ribbon) in over 4 years and I have printed at least 100 decals.

The only downside with the MD1000 is it requires a computer running XP and a parallel port.  It prints super nice decals in any color including white, gold and silver.

The Decal Pro FX does sound interesting enough to follow up on.

So this decal system has been around for over a decade by the dealers own ad copy, and apparently hasn't sweep the hobby field just yet.  The price is apparently 90.00 US for a full kit, which is high but still cheaper than custom decal printing.

That gets me wondering a bit, how good is this system?

You also have the option of printing your decals on paper with your ink jet, then taking it to a copy shop that can print it with their laser printer.

That is the method I would choose which would be a lot less expensive.

But without any user confirmation of the process and results, I won't be the one to experiment with it.

For decades I have had both a B&W laser printer and a color inkjet.
I use the laser for flyers, handouts, correspondance, etc. for various groups I am involved with (and printing envelopes, yes I still use snail mail in some cases). However, quickly reviewing the Color laser offerings (not taking into consideration too deeply the print resolution, durability, thru-put etc), I am seeing that they have approached sub-200 for what seem (key word "seem") to be decent copiers.
I wouldn't mind junking my becoming cranky, ink guzzling ink-jet for a color multipurpose (printer/copier), even if the toner cartridges are higher priced.
