I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Build progress so far. First, I had foolishly thought having built one years ago. It would be just as straight forward. Nope.
Built the two booms first. That gave me the dimensions needed for the house & pedestal . I started the pedestal using of all things a Quart Milk bottle cap. The cap has very nice triangle bracing needed for the over all look. Next using PVC conduct the pedestal riser.
The E-crane house sits comfortablely atop the pedestal. Secured by small bolt/nut & washers. Turns 360 degrees ,ready for work.
Today,I start on the A frame for main boom. After that step the rest should move right along.
The counter weights maybe today...
Hydraulic pistons & hoses tomorrow...
Paint & lettering next week...

dragonriversteelWhat are you working on Mike ? You always have something interesting going.
Just trying to get some projects completed. Nothing like your crane project, or as interesting.
As I said, I've seen those cranes working from a distance, as I'm driving by, usually on a freeway. I always assumed they were mounted stationary, to a point, only moving a certain distance on a track or rail type thing.
I learned other wise.
Talk about balance. Build on, and show us your progress.
Mike.

mbinsewi I just watched an interesting video on their web site. https://www.e-crane.com/ So that's they're called. I've seen them, from a distance. Looks like a cool build. Mike.

Yeah, going to be super cool. Painted in same color of machinery blue with yellow handrails. Looks good in my head. Now let's see if it will materialize like my thoughts.

Making progress on my scrap yard slowly but surely. After failing to purchase enough silicone rubber from my overhead crane build. I decided to turn my attention to the next item on my build list.
Today I start laying out an HO version on an equilibrium crane or E-crane. Having built one over ten years ago it should be as straight forward.
I don't have the original HO templates so it'll be free hand again . We'll see how it goes.
This time I'm building a E-crane 700 series 4264-PDE. Smaller that the first one built but just as neat.
Wish me luck.
