I have some Rivarossi coaches with similar swing boxes. I put Kadee #58 couplers in them.
Eventually, I will probably replace those with #5s. They are too loose in the coupler pocket, and tend to uncouple. Or, I might try shimming them.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
ATSFGuy May we see a photo please? You're better off with body mounted couplers than truck mounted ones.

What He is talking about is a body mount coupler:

I could not say how easy/hard it would be......never saw a vintage 75ft Walthers pass. cars under-side. If the trucks would still swivel freely, it should work. If there is room to drill & tap a hole for the mount or use a self tapper screw.
I run Walthers 85ft'er pass.cars with their extended swing coupler box's with 1/4 shank Kadee's 30 series for close diaphragm coupling, but I have broad curves.
They also look and mount differently:
Good Luck!

I have an old walthers 75' coach (assembled) which does not have couplers. I want to use Kadee's Extended Swing Gearbox & #148 whisker coupler Walther #380-451. Has anyone used this kadee coupler with older walthers passenger car kits?
