The staff here is very friendly and able to serve. There's Zoe, Chloe, Flo, Janie, and Brunhilda. They'll serve up plenty of virtual food with a smile and a friendly "See any nice trains today?"
Chef Ryan has set up a fire pit and smoker to cook up some good ol' BBQ!

Brent, thanks for the great video! British Columbia is every bit as beautiful as it suggests. We were there a couple of years ago. Didn't get to Squamish but we will next time.
We should consider taking the diner to Northern Ontario in the fall. The Agawa Canyon is spectacular when the fall colours are out, and the route along Lake Superior is magnificent.

I'm afraid I have been a night owl most of my life. My parents let me stay up late on the weekends to watch movies with them, and then they let me sleep in in the morning. That started my nocturnal habits. When I was in university I used to do all my reading and essay writing in the wee hours of the morning because there was nobody around to interrupt me. These days I regularly stay up all night, particularly when I have a task to do like working on the club's layout drawings. My wife has come to accept me sleeping in in the morning. I do go to bed 'on time' when I have to get up the next day.

It's the Old Vicksburg Bridge in Vicksburg, MS over the Mississippi River, I had the privilege to go out on the middle with a train coming across for my birthday last year.

In partucluar, I like the SOU GP30 with high short hood. Remarkably, SOU operated its locomotives long end forward, but this photo shows an exception.
Jeff lived in Louisiana and I bet he would like the choice for this month's location.

Tell me about it. My daughters and sons-in-law hate going out for a night with Mary and me. It is embarassing when the old farts can out-party the twenty year olds!
They are ready to go home by 10:00 and asleep by 11:00. No stamina at all. Mary and I are just getting started at that point.
No wonder all the late night dance bars with live music play classic rock. The kids just can't do it.

Good morning and happy Easter from the Wild West Coast. It's 10c at 0800hrs with a high overcast.
The hunt is on! Release the hounds.
The hunt has been prepared for my 16 year old daughter with chocolate eggs having been spread all over the house for when she wakes up. The kid found his bag of eggs in his helmet in his hockey bag. I thought he would share them with the team but he said NO-WAY! I obviously didn't bring him up right. He plays for the Gold medal at 1345hrs today and then drives two hours back to Calgary for his flight back to Ottawa at 2300hrs. Think I'll be somewhat of a deadbeat today as the wife is at a dog show all day. May run the 48 car freight with the mid-train helper I put together. It ran for over an hour without a hiccup last week while I puttered in the trainroom. I don't have a big enough parking spot for it so I will have to dismantle it out on the main if I want to run something else. Hopefully, a new house will allow for a much longer A/D track, I like watching 50 cars snake around the layout. Watch out for alligators in the pool and on the golf course. I wonder if my Grizzly bear spray I carry with me up here would work on a gator. All the best to all. P.S. This just in: The administration announced today that April is Model Railroading Awareness Month. According to one official, people may or may not be aware that model railroading is the finest hobby there is. He went on further to state that it is beneficial, educational, and just plain fun. Now who doesn't want to have fun. Another official said that if you've seen a model railroad, you're aware of it. The celebration will start with a parade of locomotives starting at Horseshoe curve and ending at the Tehachapi Loop.

If I did indeed win $10,000 for a shopping spree I do hope that the prize would be $10,000 and a building to put the layout in! I would probably spend the first $2,500 on locomotives the second $2,500 on rolling stock and the last $5,000 on the layout itself. That includes custom painting for some of the locomotives and rolling stock.

I'll have to build me one of those to mount on my adult tricycle. Not sure about making it out of glass though. I'm amazed that it stayed in one piece.

You know since we are in the South this month, I guessd we should expect to see freight cars from the MIAMI LAKES & EASTERN GEORGIA. This route goes straight up the route that became Interstate 95.
NWP SWPI would probably spend the first $2,500 on locomotives the second $2,500 on rolling stock and the last $5,000 on the layout itself. That includes custom painting for some of the locomotives and rolling stock.
Steven, $10000 sounds like a lot of money, that is until you actually start to spend it. $2500 for locomotives might get you eight to 10 good quality DCC engines with sound. $2500 for rolling stock will get you maybe 75 good quality RTR cars. $5000 will not cover the cost of a completely finished layout big enough to require its own building, let alone adding in custom painting.
This is a great hobby but it is not cheap! However, learn how to install your own decoders and do your own painting, and $2500 each for locomotives and rolling stock will go a long way. Plus, you will get much more satisfaction out of doing the work yourself rather then just paying for stuff that somebody else has built.

Well, she did it--my daughter completed basic combat training and we will see her graduate on Thursday. The "Forge" hike nearly killed her (they had to treat her for severe dehydration but she refused to quit) but she completed all 45-50 miles across the three days. From her last letter:
“Having been awake for approximately 21 hours our final march took us to the field where we will be graduating. All the companies met together as a battalion to be addressed by our battalion commander. Our fingers and toes were frozen and people were so exhausted you could see them dozing off while standing at attention. The ceremony consisted of a history of the Army and what it means to be a soldier. Standing there listening I had never been more proud of my decision to serve and all of my ‘WTF was I thinking’ moments from the past three days vanished as I felt confirmation that being here was the right decision. The battalion commander announced we had officially met all of the requirements and are no longer ‘trainees,’ but soldiers in the US Army. You hear that? I’m a solider in the US Army. I had so many doubts along the way, but I held strong and my eyes are welling up with pride right now just writing that."
I am one pround dad, though I never thought I would be an Army dad. (Well, National Guard...)

Richard, you have every right to be proud of your daughter! She got through some pretty tough stuff to get where she is, and you should take a great deal of credit for her perseverance! Obviously you raised her 'right'.

No fooling from me today. I finally got the reweight data for the new combo grain car on one side done. It is one of Accurail's new ones. http://accurail.com/accurail/ART/3800/3810_1.jpg (Also discovered that I painted the parts of the car that I had modified to update it for my era the wrong color. Quickly fixed once I discovered the problem.) Hopefully will get the other side done in the morning. (Sounds like lots of snow tomorrow so I won't be going to the ranch.)

That link is the stock pic. In looking at prototype pictures from that car series, the lettering is off in a few places, but I have no desire to try to fix it. (The logo needs to be closer to the ladder. The reporting marks also need to be closer to that end of the car.) I should finish the car a little later this morning.

While in the South, perhaps we could tour New Orleans which was a railroad town among other things. .. .. Turn back the clock and we can travel to there by trains such as the Crescent Limited, the Panama Limited, The City of New Orleans, the Hummiong Bird, the Southern Belle, the Sunset Limited, etc. .... Great trains ! ..... Maybe some Louis Armstrong music if any of you are fans of that.
