Building first custom HO rolling stock
Posted by RealGomer on Saturday, March 24, 2018 10:03 PM

I want to surprise my wife with a custom HO scale box car. I'm guessing I'd need to start with a bare body and then paint it whatever color is right. Now the problem. I saw the thread at http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/p/268944/3048536.aspx#3048536 for custom decals. My custom car would have the GE logo and their slogan from the 1950s - "Progress is our most important product".

Is going thru one of the custom shops a viable option? One shop, Modelers Decals and Pain, asks for print ready copy. Where could one find the dimensions for the text and logo? I attached a poor representation.

I don't see any attached photo or drawing of what you have in mind, and I'm not sure what custom decal printers get, one company I did look at wants about $40 a sheet.

You could do some Google searches, or what search site you like, for the logo your looking for, and design the drawing from that.

There are other ways of designing, drawing and printing your own decals, and hopefully those on here that have done that will chime in as to the "how to".

Good luck.

Mike.

You might take a look at Microscale. it is possible that they may have something similar to what you want

http://www.microscale.com/

As to 'print ready', the best thing is to check the site to see what they define as print ready. If not on the site, send them an e-mail asking for details - file type, size or DPI, etc.

The General Electric Logo is available on MicroScale decal sheets 87-607 and 87-4125. There are three different color combinations between the two sheets. They are also on sheet 87-834, but they are cut out and not the full circle.

The slogan can be done with alphabet decals.

Sorry, gang. I tried a cut and paste but it apparently didn't take. Here's a link to what I'm hoping to make.
