I have three K-27's from Sunset models in HOn3.
All of them were out of gauge... They couldn't clear a turnout without derailing.
I've regauged them to NMRA specs.
This (and the other) locomotives has a long list of work done to make it work.
I've replaced the worm gear with a NWSL worm, installed extra power pickups on the drive wheels, filed away material on the bottom cover plate to avoid shorts, replaced the springs with weak NWSL springs, regauged all wheels, installed a Soundtrax Econami with stay alive and dual 4 ohm speakers.
It works very well now on the Peco turnouts.
Now it's time to paint, decal and weather it.

I admire your tenacity! I am also disappointed that these were Sunset models as I have one made by that importer/manufacturer. It's a CPR 2-10-4, but all it has given me in the way of grief is a backed out retaining nut on one of the crankpins on one side.
