I am an N-scale guy but I picked up what seem to be a couple of Ho Motors in a recent mixed lot -- both run and have flywheels. I was wondering if anyone might have any idea what type of motors these are (and if they happen to be worth anything)...?
Please see picture here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/YXVPNJkIdyYu46W92 (motors are around 3" to 3.5" end of flywheel to end of flywheel) -- I also tried to insert image below.
Hello All,
Though I seem very late on this topic, I figured I might still be able to provide some insight. These motors pictured here appear to be very old versions of a Life-Like two sided motor, the kind most often used in diesels. I'm not able to find pictures or schematics relating to these, but based on the strips of metal on either end of the motor istelf, as well as the large fly wheels on either end, I would say its a pretty old Life Like motor. Price wise, I'm not sure how much its worth, but I don't think much, as life like motors can be bought easily, and older motors don't neccesarily have use except in restorations.
Hope I was able to help,
MM
Not so sure about LL, but older Athearns, with the metal side frames used this motor. I have a few.
Generally no good for a loco for future DCC conversion, as they pull about 1 amp + on a stall test.
You still see them on Ebay, don't know if anybody buys them.
Not that it matters, I haven't seen the OP around since this thread.
Mike.

I never even SAW this thread until it was resurrected. But those look like Athearn motors to me, the top and bottom clips are the same as used on the later gold sided ones, and the flywheels have that rough look of Athearn. Longer version, too, so most likely out of a 6-axle unit instead of a 4 axle. Perhaps the Trainmaster.

They look to Me like the mid-60's version. Athearn BB's. Trucks were cast metal, lacking detail. They first come out without flywheels.......about a yr. later they would come with flywheels. I have a couple that still run great. Gave them to My friend in the UK.
The pic' is of how they came without flywheels. The BN shell did not come with it, but would fit perfect. It was an SDP40, the two I had:
This is a pic' of the engine that originally came with it......1966 is on the instruction diagram.
I don't recall seeing this thread either......
Take Care!
