Kudos to MR and Steven Otte
Posted by Bayfield Transfer Railway on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 5:37 PM

I recently submitted a question to MR's online "ask a question" Email, about the EMC SW locomotive.  I figured it might go into the magazine's Q and A session.

I got a very nice reply from Steven, INCLUDING drawings of the SW from MR in 1940.

Way more than I was expecting.  Thanks.

Well, I've liked MR during my on again, off again, history since the 60's.  Things have changed over time, but the MR overall community certainly is a good one, and the MR staff and Kalmbach IMHO do an overall admirable job, given the challenges such as the changing world of publishing.  So it indeed is appropriate  to recognize their valuable efforts.  That includes newer features such as the Forum, which for me has been invaluable in my latest MRing venture since 2011.

Of course, my least desired job would be MR Forum moderator.  I still wonder what Steve did to gain that extra hat.  I'll bet he brought in stale donuts one Friday, or backed into the boss' car in the parking lot.  Said another way, thanks for what you do (besides the technical stuff), Steve.  Star

Maybe he was gone the day they had the meeting to pick the moderator.

Always go to meetings, it's the only way to defend yourself.

Bergie's last words out the door were "make sure you put that Otte guy in charge"

When I got my questions asked by Jim Heidger (retired). And one of them went into the actual magazine.

You on the other hand were very lucky. With blueprints.

I wish the same thing when Hal Miller took over Jim's job.

One time I had a question about an N-scale track plan by Jim Kelly. It didn't show the actual pieces of sectional track used to build it. Being all of about 13 or so, I decided the best way to find out was to call him myself. It was a long distance call, and I remember asking whomever answered the call that I wanted to speak with Mr. Kelly. I was put through to him, and he told me that there was no actual "track plan" but he recommended flex track. I was happy with the answer (I didn't build the plan, by the way) and that was that.

Looking back now, I can't believe they just put me right through to him!
