Good morning.

Inch .... Your news about your cancer is very sad. Nice of you to think of my friend Dan. Dan will move to a hopsital near here soon. The recovery will take a long time. I recall when you and "Mother" visited here several years ago. You saw Dan's Union Pacific layout, Gus's Illinois Central layout, and my CB&Q layout. It was a very nice visit. Prayers for you. I hope you will continue posting here.

Mr. B .... Best wishes to you. Sounds like you see light at the end of the tunnel.

Dave ... That is very intersting about your friend and Rapido Trains.... I hope you will have more to tell us.

Happy model railroading, everybody. Big Smile

Inch: Your positive outlook is an inspiration. Thank you for sharing.

I am still less than employed. I did have an epiphany last week--if I was an IT company, I doubt I would hire me. The reason is simple--return on investment. I am 57 1/2. The normal learning curve for a technical sales professional with a new product/company is 18-24 months. By the time I was fully trained, I would be darn close to 60. It's all economics.

Mrs. ROR did find a job. She has not been in the traditional workforce for 30+ years and she was sure no one would be interested. First interview yielded a job offer within 24 hours. She is going to be running the reading program for kindergarten and first grade at a local elementary school. As for me, we are continuing to start up my piano tuning and repair business. I have a call with my internet-marketing-saavy son today about standing up my website. I already have five clients lined up. Not a lot, but 5>0.

Afternoon folks!

Inch......, I am deeply saddened to hear your news.  I will keep you in my prayers that all the rest of your days may be as good ones.  Hope they can keep you pain free and comfortable for many months!

Since we have been talking a bit about stupid vehicle stuff, here is a news story locally about more of the same.....

http://www.whec.com/news/fatal-crash-boughton-hill-road-mendon/4544191/?cat=565

Of course the only one who was not at fault was the one who paid.......

Need to get the lawn mowed today since it is not raining outside for a change.  Nice and sunny here in the Finger Lakes and currently in the low 80's outside.  Brought in a nice big bag of radishes from the garden last night.  Other things are now growing like crazy.  Pole beans have reached the top of the shed roof (last year they were about a foot high and trying to just survive the drought) and should start blossoming soon.  Onions are getting very large (biggest I have ever gotten them here) and still have a few weeks of growing before harvest.  Peppers are in blossom and the squash plants are doubling in size every couple of days.  This may be a very good year for the garden.

Blasted rabbit is still managing to trim off the tops of the snow peas avery night!  Too bad my Grandad's old 12 guage isn't operable...  LOL (It is a 1910 Harrington and Richardson single shot and will never again be fired....)  Besides, I woudn't remain a free man long if I fired that old thing within the city limits........ Guns in general are a no-no topic, but I'll let one-off posts stand as long as it doesn't become a discussion...

Inch May your days be peaceful and pain free

Howmus you need a fox.  My wife follows someone on instagram who rescued a fox from a fur farm.  The fox lives indoors with a dog.  Outdoor foxes smell bad, and apparently it's the same for the indoor variety.  The owner describes their pee and poo as skunk mixed with ammonia.  And they like to mark their area.

Sounds like an outdoor pet to me.  Forgot the link:

Evening all

Managed to slip in.

Hobby barn news - The hangers just hung a house and had ten sheets left over. Normally they cut the sheets up and toss them in the dumpster. I made friends with the hanging crew and now they leave the extra sheets for me to take home to the hobby barn vs. throwing them in the trash. Todays haul is $160 savings ($16 per sheet) for the project. Yesterday I brought home a load of #57 stones that was left over from a project and completed the gravel area outside of the hobby barn. Today I also gave away about 15 pieces of trim to one of my venders who is remodeling his house. You would be stunned by what I have to throw away if I cannot find someone to give it to.

Last week I filled up a trailer and pick up truck of a guy who is building some type of building. There was plywood, framing lumber, beams, windows, exterior trim etc. I told him not to buy anything yet we wll probably have enough material where he will only have to buy trusses, shingles and siding....I would rather give it away than throw it away !

ROR, Howmus - how about a live trap ?

Howmus - Or shouild I call you Richard Petty for that amazing bit of driving ? Yep I bet you are glad you are here !

Mr. B. - That is  HEAVY price to have to pay when such things in life happen. I hope your life takes a better turn soon.

Inch - Have you asked your doctors if there is a "study" that they can get you into. NIH (National institute of Health ) has AMAZING programs and it is FREE if you can get into a study. We were able to get my wife into a study years ago and it bought an extra year. I have a friend whose wife has cancer too and now they have much better expectations for her life or outlook. Shoot me a PM with your email address I have other info I can send you too.

Dave - That is cool !

Herrinchoker - I did something very similiar this morning. The guy laid on his horn other wise I would have run him over ! OOOPS

Ricky W - what happened to teh guy who sent the unit over the edge ? Did tehy fire him ?

Old School - Nice pick. Hope you pup heals fast.

Brent - WOW That is crazy. What did they have to do to get let back in to the states ?

Angel - No it is not. It will be a custom design to fit the area. The landscaper we use is highly trained or educated in his field and is VERY particular. I think with the slate I have on hand it will be I hope around 800 sqaure feet.

Garry - Yea a building this size takes an amazing amount of work. I cannot wait to see the end product myself !!! This is ultimately my retirment. Where I work they dod not have any such thing. I had the great fortune to buy into a neighberhood that is has million dollar plus homes at half the price. Unfortunately the house needs LOTs of elbow grease and upgrades which we are slowly adding and changing. When the kids are gone we will sell and hopefully be a million dollars in the plus and go somewhere cheaper and MUCH smaller.

Steve - Hmmm I did not read Mr. B comments like that. Very sensitive subject around MRR ? Why is Neil leaving ? I kinda of liked the guy ! Certainly enjoyed his prescence in the videos

Gotta get back to w**k

No, Mr. B's comments weren't like that, but the previous thread I had to delete was. I didn't want that kind of conversation re-starting.

Evening Diners,

Steven- You been busy today.

Dave- That is cool, I hope he makes good decisions at Rapido Trains.

FRRYkid- I like the design of the hotel. I hope construction goes smoothly.

Ulrich- You're friend us an impressive railroad. I was watching your layout I can't tell it's my internet connection or the video was cracking on me.

Inch- Sorry about your life span to clock down. Make every moment possible, or try to when getting treatment.

Oldschool- I had a similar one with Charles, but not important. I hope she will recover quickly.

Not a party to the previous conversation so I am at a bit of a loss. Why is Steve leaving ? There seems to be a turn over in that position every every four or five years. Is it burn out ?

Good afternoon from the sunny left side of Canada.

Inch I am so sorry to hear of your prognosis. We recently had two members of our extended family move on. One from colon cancer the other from prostate cancer. They both got prescriptions for medical marijuana from the Doctor and it was by far the best medication they had in their arsenal to cope. As things progressed they got stronger stuff from a (private) distributor. These guys were both crusty old geezers that frowned upon pot, however, they changed their tune once the Doctor recommend they try it. I don't smoke the stuff myself, but you could sure see the relief they got.

yougottawanta
Brent - WOW That is crazy. What did they have to do to get let back in to the states ?

They had to get Passports from the U.S. embassy in Vancouver and that took ten days. Good thing our rates for front yard camping are reasonable.Laugh

Had a little more interaction with a kid that needed a break at our house as their home was not the most ideal place to be. It is amazing how far a good hug goes to making them feel better.

Well just finished sanitizing the trailers water tank, time to put some of B.C.s finest in there so the wife can brush her teeth and flush the toilet.Wilted Flower The trailer holds 295 litres of water, so she should be good for the length of her stay at the dog show.

All the best to all.

Good Evening,

Inch, I was very sad to hear of your news. Not much I can say except that I am thinking of you.

Gee, I just realized that I haven't purchased anything for the RR since the RS3 last October and I mean absolutely nothing.

Well now that the washing machine is working fine the internet/phone line is causing some problems. Sometimes we get a lot of static on the phone and then the internet goes off too. I called up the provider and was told to check all the phones on the line to make sure they have filters( they do) and that a phone could cause the problem. I discontected them one by one and thought I had found the culprit but the problem started up again a little while ago. I sure hope there isn't a problem with the line that is underground in our back yard. We had that with the TV cable.

Also the check engine symbol came on in the car this afternoon. I will make an appointment tomorrow as apparently it could be an issue with the emission system.

I think I might have a large glass of wine. Mind you my 'problems' are small compared to those that some of you are experiencing. More annoyances than problems but they still are irritating.

I did order my new binoculars today and hope to have them in a couple of weeks. Dave, I let you know what I think of them.

Last night we watched 'The Tunnel' that we had recorded on Sunday night. It is a very good show about the French and English police interaction due to events that occur on the Chunnel. It is a fairly dark show but well done. As usual the show is a series of interconnected shows so you have to watch all of them in order. We have seen 3 now and I think this series is 6.

Have a good evening,

CN Charlie

CN Charlie, that light will come on if the gas cap is not screwed in correctly. It is a simple thing to check and if that is the problem, will save a lot of grief.

First TPLO (tibial-plateau-leveling osteotomy) completed yesterday on my husky Luna. She is home now with a shaved leg, lots of staples and a 10 cm stainless-steel plate holding her cut bone in place. The bone was rotated about 25 degrees as you can see in the x-ray. Next 8 weeks of hehabilitation at home will be intensive. Then, after this leg is healed, the same surgery for the other leg. Thank goodness for health insurance for pets. DJ

Eric,

Thanks for the tip. I was aware that could cause the problem and I did make sure the gas cap was on securely but unfortunately that didn't fix the problem.

Steven Otte

Inch, I'm very sorry to hear your sad news. May your treatments be successful and your days be filled with as much joy as you can handle. Angel

Inch ,
I am very sorry to hear of your diagnosis and I pass on Steven's sentiments as well.
You will have a lot of prayers from our Guys here and your own as well. Lets always remember who's hands these situations are really in.
May the diagnosis be wrong.  I was diagnosied 4th stage and not alot on the up side, but, for 3 years now I have been cancer free. So things do get stated wrong and things can turn out better than first expected.
Keep a strong and happy outlook, do what is asked of you by your medical team, pray often.  My outlook was that I was not sick,  I just had a problem to overcome.  I did end up with some collateral damage, but nothing that I can't handle and I am still here free of Cancer and watching my Grandson grow.
My prayers, best wishes and healing thoughts are with you while you fight this beast.

Inch I am very soory to read about the cancer. Do look for other types of treatments outside of VA health care. Not bad mouthing the VA, but from what I seen they don't think outside of the box. There box seems very small if you ask me.

Hope you live out your life on your terms. Best wishes and good luck in Indy!

Good morning.

I rescued this photo of the Chapel Car from Photobucket and now it is in Flickr. Those who wish to have a quiet place to pray for our good friend, Inch, are welcome in the Chapel Car.

Inch .... As you can tell, all of your friends here care about you. Tell "Mother" we are thinking of her too.

Old School .... Evidently, pet health insurance was a good investment for you. It is amazing what can be done. I hope Luna recovers and gets back to normal.

Morning all

Garry thanks for the chapel car I will be attending and praying for Inch and "Mother".

Hobby barn news - Yesterday we unloaded the drywall and brought home another load of dirt to fill in the ruts from the dump trucks. I am getting close to just needing the electric RI and then it is off to the races to install insulation drywall trim and finally benchwork. See the light at the end of the tunnel

Yesterday my daughters and I also mowed the neighbers yard. He has throat cancer and is in a bad place. Rest of the family still smokes. Just do not understand that mentality. If you see a life style choice and the wreckage it causes a family member why continue down that path ?

Steve - will there be a notice informing MRR subscribers of the change and new direction ? Why did Neil leave ?

Old School - OUCH - Prayers for you and your pup.

Batman - why dont US Citzens just cross back in to the states were they dont have the "official border" ? I have seen a photo where there is a road that parallels the border. One road belongs to Canada and one road on the other side is the US. It would be a simply matter to drive across two feet of grass and be home...Thanks for helping stranded Americans

Henry - You are correct I meant Neil not Steve. I missed the whole conversation and apparently it was deleted by Steve.

Morning all. Been awol just due to personal issues. Nothing serious, but enough to just beat you down so much you don't want to even get out of bed...much less log on.  probably wouldnt hurt to get to em my mental state looked at.  Great days, and then overwhelming days, you know?

first off, inch-I'm sorry for the diagnosis. I'm at a loss of words.

Well, for what's been going on for me: met and hung out with a national touring band on Saturday night-Confederate Railroad.  They've worked with everyone in the country music scene (Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Paycheck, skynyrd, etc) and they are all huge train buffs.  so I spent half an hour hanging with them, talking guitars and trains.  Real nice guys.

Started building a diorama to photograph my equipment on, since the wood I planned to use for a layout was the wrong type.  Hopefully I can save up for some plywood soon

I finished up the 2662 high hood model , and will post it on Friday.

i gotta put money away for an oil change soon.

i picked up a copy of  the "bible of the Pittsburgh and West Virginia" the Howard Worely "High and Dry" for 61 bucks...normally they go for way over 100 bucks.

hope everyone is doing well
