SHELL REMOVAL
Posted by Newbie1 on Monday, June 12, 2017 12:54 PM

I have a never been used MODEL POWER F2-A diesel locomotiv. I'm trying to remove the shell and lm not having any luck. It has one screw that goes through the fuel tan, but removing it doesn't loosen the shell. There are a couple of tabs on each side, prying them still doesn't do anything. Can anyone help me out?

You could try gently shaking the shell, that might cause it to come off.

Here's a couple of exploded diagrams for a Model Power FA-2:

I don't see anything indicating a screw coming up through the fuel tank.  My guess is that they modified the position of the weight retaining screw, moving it from inside the loco to outside, through the fuel tank.

It does look like the tabs are the only thing holding the body onto the chassis.  Sometimes it's useful to pry out one side and insert a couple of toothpicks in the gap.  Then do it on the other side.  That way, you don't have to both do the prying and the shaking.  Of course, you need to make sure the tab is fully clear of the slot.

The more unpleasant possibility is that they redesigned the whole mounting system.  And you have the new, improved version.

So, be careful and thoughtful.

Oh, yeah.  I think it was Model Power that made an E7A where the body was held on with a screw down through the roof.  A word to the wise.

Good luck, Ed

Lets try this link. I couldn't get Ed's to work.  Lets see if this works.

I think this is the loco you have, an F2A.

In the paragraph at the bottom, titled Lubrication, the shell is removed by spreading the shell between the trucks.

The illustration looks like how Athearn BB shells are attached.

Link does not work for me.

 403 Permission Denied.

Been happening for at least a year. Been in a couple other forums and the same issue.

I tried, maybe two times to contact Larry the administrator and no response. I have his email address in in my email account. We use to correspond about five years ago when I sent him scans.

That's what I got with Ed's try, "permission denied.  When I go back and click on the link I have, it works.  I'll log off, and see if it still works.

I logged off, closed the browser, logged back in, and I get the "permission denied".

Oh well.

The OP could check out HOseeker on his own.  It's easy to find on a Google search.

Can you post some photos?  None of the links seem to be working.

Do a screen shot of the PDF and post it here. I have done that a few times. Easy enough but you need a image hosting site like photo bucket.

Yep, that's the one, Rich.  I originally posted the picture, but wasn't sure about copyright stuff, so I tried a link to the picture, which didn't work.

Larry started this site some years ago to help modelers. He told me free to share.

A few times I sent him scans of documents that came with my locos, DC and DCC, some manuals, couple catalogs, etc.

Odd that no one seems to be able to share the pages the last year or so.
